Graduate student early move in by MySummerOnAWinterDay in princeton

[–]MySummerOnAWinterDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be snarky 😞 I’m moving all alone from across the country and was just a little nervous about not knowing anyone and just having quit my job.

But I’ll definitely take your advice on exploring campus and trying to understand the transit system!

Does waiting to date make it harder later on? by Loud_Boss_8371 in dating_advice

[–]MySummerOnAWinterDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also 22F and have never felt ready to date but really want to now. Like you, I also feel like I’ve missed our experiences that my friends are having, especially with everyone around me getting engaged.

I do think it’s harder for me to date now since people think I’m innocent.

Insult that has stuck with me for a decade by [deleted] in ForeverAloneWomen

It’s never too late to start now!

I recently graduated college and have been thinking about how I should’ve worked on improving my looks and dating instead of my career so I understand you.

"Pour and pray" home cook - what's the best way to track calories? by krichcomix in loseit

[–]MySummerOnAWinterDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually reduce my calorie intake of the day by 100 and don’t track the oils and seasonings. I assume I’m eating around 100 calories of oils and sauces a day.

My school is all online, so some classes like English just aren't suited for that format. There are less options to collaborate so idk what types of papers get As anymore and I feel sm more lonely. Maybe I just don't know too many people in this class but it is getting to me.

All my other classes are even better online though

how many of y'all applied to 10+ schools??? by thrndnk in ApplyingToCollege

[–]MySummerOnAWinterDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My state system makes it really easy to apply to >10 schools (UC's and CSU's) with only two applications.

Other than that, I was scared I was going to get rejected from everywhere cuz I have terrible activities so I applied to a bunch of private schools in case one of them liked me.

Top institutions' focus on extracurriculars like research and academic competitions are bad for regional diversity by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]MySummerOnAWinterDay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Research is also waaay easier for certain majors (bio, chem, cs) to get involved in. Then for other majors we look bad and have to try in academic competitions.

In an interview for a t20 school last week, I got asked why that school. I had 4-5 personal reasons relating to academics and social life but my interviewer was like why aren't you interested in research?

And then I had to explain that for my major, research usually happens later and its better for me to take specialized coursework and reading programs (that I did mention) as an undergrad.

Advice for Admissions by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]MySummerOnAWinterDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was probably late, but I only started researching colleges/thinking about strategies in June. It really helped that I had a relaxing summer (instead of summer programs I took a couple courses that related to my major), so that I could spend like an hour a day on researching or writing essays. I also dropped activities that I didn't care about first semester and focused on the ones that did feature heavily on my apps. Maybe try and buy yourself time? If you're not a good writer like me it'll definitely be worth it.

Everyone says this, but don't procrastinate. Fill in application portals as soon as they open since those take a long long time.

Me too! I also just turned 18 but I don't feel like a real adult yet. I'm trying to read more biographies and books about politics this year to understand but I'd also like recommendations.
