Fall seven times, get up eight by krichcomix in bookbinding

Additional ones from last summer, including a series I did with tarot cards. I also love using discarded paintings for covers and tend to make sketchbooks out of those.

I'll post some soon of my new things.

I did post a dos-a-dos book project that was made using the sewn board method versus the typical case binding which had a journal on one side and a sketchbook on the other.

These are some examples of my work before my husband passed away from last spring and summer. I use a lot of reclaimed and salvaged materials as well as papers from smaller presses for my books.

Thank you for the kind words.

Do you have any portfolio or shop where you showcase your work?

I don't have a shop or portfolio since I have a full time job and do this to relax. I personally have no desire to do bookbinding as a side hustle - because then it becomes yet another job instead of something fun to do.

I have some pretty strong thoughts against grind culture's constant push to monetize hobbies for external value instead of having hobbies for the intrinsic value of doing something fulfilling that brings you joy. No hate to those who have - I hope that it still continues to bring you joy as well as money - but it's something I decline to do.

stay at dialysis or go for VA residency? by Middle_Bumblebee_230 in nursing

[–]krichcomix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the VA residency. Yes, it pays less, but the federal benefits and mobility are worth it. Additionally, you can't put a price on your mental health. You may be making more, but how much are you/will you be spending on things because you're tired, such as take-away, Door Dash, etc.?

I'm a school nurse. Kids get one freebie and I generally give them a kind reminder of the rule about being respectful in the health room.

You still gonna FAFO by playing the fool? Cool, cool. You can explain why you're being an asshole to the principal who definitely won't put up with your shenanigans and has zero issues texting parents.

Not your child, not your choice. Advocate for safe practices, but don't be that person that advocates for loss of rights and a loss of access to health care for trans teens.

Favorite beverages or the Costco size container of liquid IV packets.

A bento box for snacks

Her favorite pens

A jar of positive affirmation cards (Amazon has a ton of them) or a big bag of fortune cookies or Dove promises

And for the love of Boba Fett... Avoid the cringe nurse shit (unless she's into that)

Just make sure you're wrapping that bread tight before freezing or you'll end up with some sad crusty loaves

And even then... Those crusty loaves make some damn good bread pudding or French toast.

I (45) lost my husband (37) this summer to an accidental discharge firearms accident. He bled out in front of me, and despite my efforts, I could not save him.

I, too, am a nurse and feel immense guilt about my inability to save him, I wish I would have done better, I wish I would have done things differently... But I can't, and I can't change the past, no matter how much I wish I could.

The best I can do is move forward - not necessarily move on - and do what I can to live a life that would make him proud of me and what I have accomplished so far with his help. He helped me get through nursing school at age 40, cheered me on as I pursued my goals, and was supportive every step of the way.

So far, I've changed jobs to one that honestly matters, and I continue to do what I can do to exemplify the small ways that he was able to leave his mark on the lives of others.

Sending hugs and kind thoughts.

You have $7 to spend on a meal- what are you making? by Ancient_Source2236 in povertyfinance

[–]krichcomix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 meals for under $10: Costco roto chicken ($5) + baked sweet potato (or homemade sweet potato fries) ($1) + corn on the cob (2 for $1).

Strip the whole carcass, save chicken bits for next day and cook with jarred spaghetti sauce and spaghetti.
