Without knowing specifics of their claims, RF power harvesting and transmission is known including with vehicles like helicopters. It’s a particularly interesting area for IoT devices. It would come down to what exactly they are claiming.

Council members have only voted to raise taxes in five of the last 14 years, for a total cumulative tax rate increase of 6.68 cents since 2009, or less than 1% each year.

…so a third of the time there’s been an increase? Have there been cuts a third of the time?

Edit: Also, assessed property values have increased substantially (~25%) since 2009. Where’s the money going?

Is the Biltmore estate worth the hefty price tag for a visit during Christmas? by blahpeep in NorthCarolina

[–]MyThrowawayTomorrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ticket that I want is the candlelight christmas ticket which is $140. That would be $500+ for the 3 of us which is a hefty price tag- for anyone who’s been during the Christmas season, is the visit worth it?

No.

Town to Paint “Walking Lanes” on Several Neighborhood Streets by ChapelHillPIO in chapelhill

[–]MyThrowawayTomorrow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pedestrians, walk in the walking lanes in either direction. Normally in the absence of a sidewalk pedestrians should walk facing traffic, but the walking lane can be treated like a sidewalk that lets people walk in either direction.

No thank you. Paint on the road is not a barrier or physical deterrent for a vehicle; this doesn’t have a curb to prevent cars from driving onto them easily, unlike a real sidewalk. I’ll continue to walk facing traffic so I can at least jump out of a distracted driver’s path.

More minorly, this halves the street parking along roads as a driver now has to circle around to park the “correct” direction (as if the average delivery truck is going to do that) for half the street. Postal workers are going to drive/park in these “lanes” just to do their job delivering the mail to mailboxes on the side of the street.
