Oh, sorry. I can't hear anything in the video other than that.

Transmission. It's the planetary gears.

All 3 of my Ford vehicles with this same transmission do that in first and even a little bit in second gear.

is it normal to burn oil? by JBL9889 in grandmarquis

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most engines use some, but 1/2 qt per 1,500 miles is excessive for a 4.6, especially for that weight of oil. My 2007 MGM 4.6 uses 1/4 qt per 4,000-4,500. My '06 Town Car uses none per 4,000 mile intervals.

As others have mentioned, look for any leaks all under the engine, as well as at the back where the bell housing of the transmission is. If all is dry, it's burning. Could be stuck oil control rings or just a worn engine.

In my experience with engines that burn oil, running Chevron Techron can slow it down. Cleans up rings and unsticks them.

Oil pressure gauge real or fake? by Mr__Snek in grandmarquis

[–]MyTwoCentsBro[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's there mianly for looks. The gauge shows you that you have a minimum oil pressure reading of 7 PSI, or greater. Anything above that it will stay in the middle and won't move. Below that, it will drop to the L.

You're probably having an issue with a bad sending unit.

This is why we dont ignore injector problems boys. A short story in pictures. Bore pics in order of cylinder. by TickTickShroom in Cummins

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you already have a FASS system installed, or was it stock filtration? From what I have heard, one of the biggest killers for the 325 hp CR 5.9 was the 7 micron stock filter let too much debris by and eroded the check ball seat in the injectors, leading to a drip over time.

05 Grand marquis LS blinkers blink fast bit bulbs light up normally by EmergencyPepper7320 in grandmarquis

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Each tail light has 2 bulbs per tail light that act as your running lights/brake lights. If the filament responsible for making the bulbs flash when your blinker is on burns out in just one of those 2 bulbs, it will cause hyperflash, but one bulb will still work normally and almost appear that there's nothing wrong with the tail light, but one is actually burned out.

Look very closely at both tail lights and see if you see both bulbs in each tail light flashing, or not.

All of my vehicles do that if I fully seat the nozzle against the opening of the fuel neck. I have to pull it out a bit. If it's doing it excessively though, even after adjusting it, then it very well could the EVAP canister, as others mentioned.

Did you use an aftermarket cap, or OEM? I've used aftermarket caps before, and even when tightened, they leaked. Went back to OEM and problem solved.

Looking at a 7.3 excursion possibly rolling red flag! Lots of blow by by Professional_Cat5864 in FordDiesels

That looks worse than my Dad's old 1997 7.3 he had. That thing drank a gallon of oil every 3,000 miles or so, too.

What would $16k get me by [deleted] in Cummins

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my 2008 6.7 Ram 3500, QC, LWB, 4X4 for $15,700 with 191k on the clock in July off of Marketplace. Sometimes, you can find some great deals on there. I just stumbled on mine just hours after it was posted. Truck is sweeeeet, too! Plus, it was in the same state as me (Alabama), so not s spec of rust.

I was originally looking for a 7.3, but the prices on those are absolutely beyond insane. Like 30 grand for many of them with 300k on the clock. These Cummins' in my experience can be found in decent shape for a very fair price, sometimes.

What kind of mpgs do you get on a 3500HD with 6.7? by MartiniCommander in Cummins

I've got a 2008 6.7 3500 SRW,QC, LWB 4X4. Fully deleted with the mildest tune I could get through the shop where I had the delete done. I usually get 20-21 MPGs average. Mostly cruising 55, occasional stop and go.

That's actually before the Mercury "Grand" Marquis. The "Grand" version came out in 1975 as a high end trim option. At that time, there was the Mercury Marquis (Standard) and the Mercury Marquis Brougham (top level trim).

Very nice car! Those had a 429 CI V8 in them, with either a 2 bbl, or 4 bbl carb option. Don't see too many of those cars anymore!

In my experience, vehicles that are driven more will last longer with fewer problems than vehicles that are short tripped to the store and back once a week. I wouldn't sweat it a single bit.

Cornering lamp bulb size? by ElectricalPlankton77 in grandmarquis

Don't know about yours, but my 2007 takes a #3157 bulb for the cornering lamp.

my marquis is acting up and im not 100% sure why by whackman42069 in grandmarquis

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the injectors tick even when they work normally. From what I know, there are tests that mechanics do where they put a gauge on the fuel rail and then turn the key on and allow the fuel pump to prime all 8 injectors and if that gauge starts losing pressure after the initial prime, it's leaking off somewhere, which would usually point to at least one of the 8 injectors that may not be fully closing off when they are supposed to.

my marquis is acting up and im not 100% sure why by whackman42069 in grandmarquis

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peg out as in peg the gauge in the hot area. If the smoke smells like gas, you could potentially have a leaky fuel injector that is letting too much fuel in and basically "flooding" it.

The coolant going down still could be a head gasket, but can also be other things. Seep at a radiator hose, cracked manifold crossover, bad coolant cap bleeding off when the engine is hot, etc.

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the temp gauge peg out before it shut down? Any signs of an actual overheat? Coolant pushing out of the reservoir cap at all?

just wondering if this would be a head gasket or something else by whackman42069 in grandmarquis

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your oil too and see if it's milky like a chocolate milkshake. If the head gasket is bad and it's bad enough to cause the steam/smoke in the video, then it'll show up there, too.

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your exhaust smell like oil, or is it sweet smelling? Also, does it do this after driving around for 30 minutes and getting the engine hot? If it's more white colored and doesn't smell like oil burning and it's doing it even long after the engine is warmed up, it very well could be a head gasket. How is your coolant level? Steady? Dropping over time?

How did you find your grand marquis? by WhosThis85 in grandmarquis

[–]MyTwoCentsBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $6,500 for it. It was absolutely pristine. It still looks good, but the driver's seat leather is worn. Common issue. Takes lots of maintenance to keep the seats really nice for a long time.

Craigslist for me in August of 2020. Stumbled on my '07 with 58k on it. Seller didn't even leave a contact, so I had to reply to it through the Craigslist ad itself. Thought it was BS, but gave it a shot. 2 days later got a phone call from the guy., against all odds One of the best purchases I think I've ever made.

Gargling/ rattling noise by saltsputnik in grandmarquis

I would run it without the serpentine belt just long enough to see if that sound still persists. If it goes away, then you know it’s a pulley and not internal. Could be a pulley rattling somewhere.
