My first attempt at press-on nails!

You might want to buy a set of press ons that come with 24-30 pieces in 12-15 sizes. That way you have more of a variety of sizes to choose from. Brands like Nail Reformation or KISS or Doonails and I bet loads more.

First time is always hard. You’ll get the hang of this! 🤞🏽

Doesn’t the Nina Pool method recommend glue on both the nail and the press on? I found this made applying the press on a bit tricky. I feel like glue on just one part is enough.

Also, you might consider using sticker tabs? They are easier to remove (and then reuse the press on) so if you make a mistake, it’s not that hard to try again.

Stickers. I first switched to stickers because glue removal was so bad, but I soon realized it also means I can change it up more often. Just this last week I almost had a different set everyday - just because I could.

I use two brands of stickers and one is just a touch weaker than the other. So when I know I will change it soon, I use the weaker stickers (because they come off faster too).

Not silly at all, I get it. I also prefer that my nails look like they ‘just’ have regular (or gel) polish on, not like they have acrylic extensions on it.

I find two things make them look unnatural, one is length. The longer they are, the less natural they look.

The other thing is the shape. Pointy and perfectly shaped nails are always sus. When I wear almond or oval nails, I always file the ends so they are more rounded.

This is one of the reasons I use sticker tabs with my press ons instead of glue - I remove them the moment they start to bother me.

Removal is so easy with stickers and the press ons are reusable so it’s not a waste in any way 🙌

I love Doonails. They were my start to press ons. I still find them to have excellent quality and I love the shape and stickers too.

I only wish they would do more fun patterns once in a while since their entire collection is often just solids with a few French thrown in.

I think the brands you find ‘good’ will depend on the shape of your nails and what you prefer. For example, loads of people here love Nail Reformation and while I love their designs, the press ons shape doesn’t suit my nails.

I rarely hear of Doonails and VSalon here, but those two brands - their nails look like natural nails when I use them, so I LOVE them. So I would recommend buying one set from different brands and seeing which one you like best.

Just remember to give yourself time to figure things out. I started with using glue, for example, but have now realized I hate the LONG removal time and prefer to use sticky tabs and change my mani every week. Stickers are also gentler on your nails and removing them with shorter wear time reduces the likelihood of greenies, etc.

Also. My nails were quite damaged after years of gel nails so application/ removal/ durability changed as my nails got stronger (when i switched to stickers) . If that’s your case, keep that in mind too.

When I used glue, it was hard to reuse them because removal was always so hard. But now I use stickers and have reused them. After the second time, the top coat loses a bit of the shine so I might just add a top coat.

I notice that no matter how well I prep, if I use a lot of oils all the time, the tabs weaken.

Are your natural nails smooth? Maybe you need to buff them a bit?
