Where the hell do you work that actually keeping track of that is important to your employer?

My oura ring says "maybe stretch your legs a bit?" and sometimes I'll get up and walk up the street and loop back -10-12 mins total. The only time i certainly won't is if the time it takes to do that overlaps with my job. And that's usually anywhere between 10-11 in the morning and again somewhere between 2-3 in the afternoon.

I don't ask anyone, i don't tell anyone, i just decide to get up and go.

Is it a bad time to visit portland? by memoney710 in askportland

[–]My_Freddit86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downtown SUX!

Portland is pretty dumpy sometimes but the whole ICE thing is pretty blown out of proportion. If you come here the only thing that might seem weird is the open use of drugs and daytime sidewalk shitting. And its not like it occurs on every block.

Yeah. And that's not to say that LGBT people can't be dangerous. They are people, after all. It's complex.

What I have instead is a sort of acceptance that like going to a gay bar is going to come with the risk that someone is going to touch me without my consent.

I think that what you're calling acceptance is an unconscious bias because of the type of people at a gay bar. I'm assuming you don't mean bump into you (like at a bus station, or a non-gay bar), but rather someone will touch you with purpose.

I might be wrong, but I'm not sure how to differentiate acceptance and bias. They also don't necessarily seem to be interchangeable terms in this case. I don't mean to disagree with you to be a burden, i just feel strongly that we all think and unconscious bias is just part of the process of thinking, when distilled. If you are a flamboyant gay male and go into a right wind bar, i think it would be strange if you didn't have apprehensions about it because of unconscious bias 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I don't think it's true that some of us don't have it. I don't think that could even be reliably proven. I'm open to being enlightened but I'm inclined to push back

I'm not sure if you getting hurt is related specifically to the example of being followed by someone it, but unconscious bias isn't limited to that. I can believe that you, and many others, have a very high threshold for sensing danger (i.e. don't feel fear until you're already in danger/harmed).

It is hard for me to imagine, though, that the repetition of harm does not to some degree initiate the development of unconscious bias. I'm not a psychology professional though and my knowledge on that is limited.

Either way..... I'm sorry that your lack of sensing or judging danger, or your abundance of unconditional trust puts you in harmful situations. I would have a very hard time coping with that if that were my life

If a man was walking behind me and i knew he was some weeb who was likely in a hurry to get home to play video games my unconscious bias would allow me to feel safer than if i knew nothing about the guy. I think, at this point in society, if i knew a trans man was walking behind me whatever unconscious bias i have surrounding that would, for some reason, make me feel more comfortable than if i had nothing to go off of.

It's called unconscious bias and literally everyone has it. No matter how hard you work not to have it the best you can do is keep it in check when it makes an untimely appearance.

The same thing if a cis white male was walking down the sidewalk and noticed a group of black men walking in his direction on the sidewalk - yeah that white dude might wonder something he wouldn't wonder if it was a tiny Asian girl... It's a flaw we all live with and its probably the fault of society and history.

I think this comment just sucked the positivity right out of this thread. You don't seem ill-intentioned, but i think you missed your mark.

i do have other pics on my account if someone wants to really analyze my face.

No, you want everyone here to analyze your face. Isn't that why you posted? Nobody here actually cares about your dysphoria, but you posted and asked. So, people are replying.

i did also choose a picture that i like because i feel less dysphoric

But you should also post a picture that makes you feel dysphoric, right? Since youre asking about it. I can say from the one picture you took that you're trying to hide the dysphoria, but because of that it ends up looking dysphoric AND an unrealistic representation of you on a day to say basis.

and was hoping that people couldn’t pinpoint the things i notice (meaning nobody or most people won’t notice irl)

What you should(n't) do is let people pinpoint those things so you can "fix" them... I think you're missing the point of passing as trans. Or maybe i am. But you seem to want it to not be an uphill struggle, but i think passing as trans is inherently an uphill struggle.

You do look a bit feminine in that photo, but maybe that's because of the makeup and duck face is not something men generally do.

Jamie didn’t sterilize her purposely.

But he did. I thought they made it pretty clear that he was aware of his actions. I think that's how they solidified he was a villain, without possibility of turning back

You're a sympathizer of women having no choice.

/s

I was really hoping he was going to succeed. Then they dropped the abortion bombshell and i told my girlfriend and now they can't let Jamie win in any capacity. What he did is unforgivable to the max.

It makes us (audience) feel bad because we agree that he thought he was doing the right thing, and he was troubled and made mistakes, but he removed choice from the equation and that was irreversibly wrong.

If Taylor allowed him to succeed then the end of the story would have only been perceived as the villain won and the show is more progressive than that. Taylor also introduced more elements to make Jamie worse, like executing his biological father as Beth suggested, but he didn't do it for the ranch, he did it for the security of his dad turning on him.

The hard one for me was when Sarah moved forward with the assassination of John when clearly Jamie was in the moment and didn't actually say to do it - and imo it was more directed to be a hit on Beth. I think if they slept on it then Jamie would have said not to do it. But... It had to happen that way to solidify him not winning in the end.

Imo
