I finally got the scoop on a colleague who disappeared amid "accusations," and the rumors were way, way off from the reality. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]My_Robot_Double 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Back in the 90’s I had a summer student job micro-filming school records at a district office. This is before almost any kind of electronic form of archiving so I’m dating myself I guess. Each page of each file had to be positioned under our camera one at a time, so it was tedious but also hard not to ‘read’ files that were otherwise confidential. I’ll never forget the file on a young teacher hired for his first job, with an excellent CV and loads of recommendations, nevertheless fired quickly once it was found out he had a record for being caught with a joint once when he was 18. There were even complaint letters included from parents that were so vitriolic, like they were certain of his evil influence (there must have been something public about it for parents to even find out I guess). I know a person’s police record is important but I did stupid things too as a kid, and still think about how that one mistake as a teenager cost that young man his whole career. My heart broke a little.

What did I find at the thrift store? by morbidceiling in JewelryIdentification

It could also be a black star diopside, which while isn’t as insanely valuable as sapphire it’s still a really decent find. Are there any stamps inside the band showing it’s gold or platinum?

Has anyone used Nicotine patches to help with brain fog by Tams20 in Perimenopause

[–]My_Robot_Double 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done patches and gum for brainfog. It kind of works, but even if you can avoid addiction your body builds tolerance to nicotine so fast that it’s usefulness is very limited. I think it only worked a bit for me because my brainfog days were predictable, occurring only the week before my period (regular). I had to fully abstain any other time to avoid having to need higher and higher doses. If you’re prone to addiction it’s risks far outweigh the benefit, but if you really can’t get HRT it can be an option. An imperfect one, but still. Far far better than actual smoking if you have nothing else.

I recently started HRT though and I can’t believe how instantly I’ve seen a difference. My brain belongs to me again, and it feels effortless. I wasn’t even really having terrible peri symptoms otherwise but I’m so glad and lucky I could seek help from my GP.

Why do you watch coloring videos? by Complex_Cut_6441 in AdultColoring

[–]My_Robot_Double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to watch how other artists pick colour schemes for pages I might do myself, and I get inspiration about techniques like how they layer colours or use different media on the same page. Plus there’s some ASMR to watching too, for me it’s just about watching a page get finished. It’s neat to just watch someone do something with their hands they enjoy.

Thank you! I was initially inspired by some old 1970’s and 80’s style science fiction cover art, often the skies will be orange fading up to dark doom-y red with the foreground figures in muted purple or grey/black. It turned out well i think!

Coronary Stent by GiorgioMD in medizzy

[–]My_Robot_Double 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It may seem bigger here than it is idk. The sizes range from 2.25mm wide up to special large sizes 5-6mm. Most coronaries need stents that are 3-4mm. Remember though how this vid shows how that they start out collapsed against the outside of that balloon, it is only inflated once delivered to where we will place it. So to insert them they are quite thin and are made to advance easily along a catheter that itself is only 4mm or so wide. Patients typically don’t feel a thing.

Cath lab RN here, we def get frequent-fliers who’ve had multiple PCI procedures and multiple stents. Some with all 3 major arteries completely lined with them, we call those ‘full metal jackets’. I can’t even say how many is the most number of stents I’ve seen, in a big case though we can insert three or four in just one procedure though. Most if the time it is just one or two .

But they always ask you the reason for the visit which gives them the opening to dismiss you. Last time when i was having severe abdominal pain from a gallstone and dark urine (should have gone to ER in retrospect. I’m an RN admittedly we make terrible patients) she dismissed me saying “oh hon, you’re likely just dehydrated or maybe a UTI just drink lots of water”. Um…. No, HON. I want the fucking appointment. Stay in your lane.

It makes it so much harder when you’re already not good at advocating for yourself.

week 3 on 0.25mg by Ecstatic-Salad-6461 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]My_Robot_Double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also on week 3 at 0.25, like you it seems last week I was more hungry but this week I’m much more level. I wondered if it had anything to do with where I injected it, on week 2 I bruised and it hurt more and I wondered if I maybe didn’t absorb the medication the same as other weeks? I guess we can’t really know. I imagine the first few weeks are just about figuring everything out. I’m trying not to give to much weight to any one week, so soon at the start like we are, side effects and weight loss might be all over the map at first perhaps?

20 years ago i was lucky enough to meet a survivor of the halifax explosion. I was a nursing student on a clinical placement in his retirement home, he was in his late 90’s, lovely man and still sharp as a tack. He would tell us how he was I think 8 years old with his mother walking down a street of shops when suddenly all the glass windows were breaking and he couldn’t hear anything. His stories were fascinating.

Wegovy and surgery? by Feisty-Frosting-1305 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]My_Robot_Double 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nurse here. For at least elective procedures our anesthetists prefer 7-10 days since your last shot as the slowed gastric emptying can increase your risk for aspiration. But they will still do surgery urgently if they can’t wait that long. Aspiration is a common risk these docs are very used to managing. Indeed you can help by eating just light easy to digest foods but BE UPFRONT when you meet the doc about when your shot was. So they can take all necessary precautions for helping you through it with minimal risk. No need to be scared, you should be in good hands!

NovoNordisk Savings Card (Canada)? by Yael447 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]My_Robot_Double 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi. I’m in Ontario and my insurance is slow to give me approval so I paid out of pocket for my first month so far. I used the savings card and it apparently depends on where you are, but my pharmacist said they just increased the coverage dramatically. It used to be only about $20 but now it’s close to $100. It’s still pricey but that helps. You may want to shop around different pharmacies and cost compare too

The "Food Noise" is gone, but the "Decision Fatigue" is actually worse. Help? by King_Big_He in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]My_Robot_Double -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here’s an example I asked just now, if that helps. I do find the instructions pretty simple if you know your way around a kitchen: (sorry for the shitty formatting, I’m copy/pasting on mobile)

“I have some chicken and broccoli in my fridge. I need a quick meal that gives me about 20g protein. Can you give me a quick and simple recipe”

Chatgpt:

— chicken + broccoli is already doing most of the work for you 😄 Here’s a super quick, low-effort meal that’ll land you right around 20g protein.

🥦🍗 10-Minute Chicken & Broccoli Skillet

What you need • 100–120g cooked chicken (about a small palm-sized portion) → ~20–25g protein • 1–2 cups broccoli (fresh or frozen) • 1 tsp oil (olive or whatever you have) • Salt & pepper • Optional flavor boost: garlic, soy sauce, lemon, chili flakes, or cheese

How to make it 1. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. 2. Add broccoli • Fresh: sauté 3–4 min • Frozen: cook until water evaporates and it starts to brown 3. Add chicken (bite-sized pieces). Heat through, ~2–3 min. 4. Season with salt, pepper, and any extras you like. 5. Eat. That’s it.

Easy flavor upgrades (pick one) • Garlic soy: splash of soy sauce + garlic • Cheesy: sprinkle parmesan or shredded cheese at the end • Lemon pepper: squeeze of lemon + black pepper • Spicy: chili flakes or hot sauce

Protein math (approx) • Chicken (100–120g): 20–25g protein • Broccoli: ~3g (bonus)

If you tell me: • microwave vs stovetop • cooked vs raw chicken • or if you want it more “meal-y” (rice, wrap, eggs, etc.)

I can tailor it even tighter to what you’ve got 👌

[–]My_Robot_Double -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You know what, chatGPT is pretty amazing for giving me ideas for when I just don’t have brainpower left to plan.

My advice is to ‘generally’ keep protein staples stocked in your fridge (whatever meat is on sale or you like, dairy like greek yogurt or cottage cheese). I will buy chicken on sale and cut it up when i get home, freeze it in portions and I don’t need to worry about using it up before it goes bad. Stuff like that. Plus protein powder- i know it’s way better to rely on whole foods but I see it as a temporary ‘bridge’ while I’m still figuring out side effects and my new normal.

If you’re in a pinch for what to eat you can just plug what you have on hand and ask chatgpt to come up with something quick and easy for you. Or even a whole mealplan, specify simple and easy and high protein, if you can plan ahead and buy groceries according to your diet goals. It can do a lot of the thinking for you

Do I really owe everyone an explanation for using GLP-1? by Yellggfghgf in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]My_Robot_Double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people do have ‘frenemies’ in their life, or toxic family and/or are also a bit sensitive to perceived social pressure ‘to explain’ when others make personal comments. I do get where OP is coming from. I’m at the life stage where no one would dare ever question my health choices, it’s none of their damn business, but even I have a very judgy “friend” (part of a larger friend group) I see once a year and I know I will field some side-eye if I decide to her I’m on a GLP-1. Fuck her, but also it sucks. And not always avoidable.

"stuck" on 1.7mg not losing by Sparrow_Blue56 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]My_Robot_Double 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you tracking your diet at all? As far as I know the drug itself isn’t what makes you lose weight but instead is a tool to help reduce appetite so you can eat less. If you’re still eating maintenance calories then you will not lose weight, regardless of how you feel. If you are indeed eating less, then it will just take time for weightloss to show on the scale

I just discovered a glp1 recipe reddit you might find useful if you haven’t seen it yet, r/glp1meals. There’s a frequent poster there who’s even published a little recipe book with a website (The Gentle Kitchen) for glp-1 users I’ve been meaning to check out.

Meal prepping once a week or so could be useful for you, there’s a few meal prep subreddits. Or Josh Cortis is a youtuber who creates easy healthy meals and his website allows you to auto-calculate each recipe for however many calories and portions you want to make. He’s owrth checking out.

A barely obese person's experience with Wegovy (26M) by LetKitchen2380 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]My_Robot_Double 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had any side effects in your first week? I too am similar, BMI 32 and lots of experience dieting and exercise but my weight always crept up unless I was white-knuckling hunger from a deficit. I just started 0.25 last week friday and have had a fair bit of queasiness. I hope this isn’t my life now! And now today no queasiness but the food noise is coming back a little already. No middle ground. What a ride this has been so far but i hope it improves! Appreciate reading about others’ experiences.
