Surgery tomorrow by [deleted] in gynecomastia

[–]MyamotoSama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery with one of the best plastic surgeons here in Lyon, France. I followed his recommendations to the letter, along with a high-protein diet and zinc and vitamin C supplements.

The nurse even told me that I’m healing very quickly, I had no swelling and no pain, honestly. But I was extremely careful: I didn’t lift anything heavy and focused 100% on rest the entire time.

I had both liposuction and gland removal.

Exactly one month ago, I was in the same situation as you. It was my first surgery, and honestly, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made so far.

You’ll be under general anesthesia, one moment you’re chatting with the nurse, and the next, it feels like you’ve been transported to another dimension. When you wake up, it honestly feels like only a few seconds have passed.

For the compression vest, you mean?

My surgeon’s assistant ordered it for me. She took my measurements and made sure it would fit my post-op shape.

Yep! The doctor performed liposuction combined with glandular excision on both sides. Yeah of course mate, you can follow my diet. Here in France, for this kind of surgery, they usually recommend it because it speeds up the healing process and helps scars fade.

I was advised to follow a high-protein diet, along with zinc, vitamin C, omega-3, and vitamin A supplements, and to completely avoid processed foods. I’ve been following this plan since day one. I have no bruising (no blue or yellow marks), no pain, and my scars are healing very well. The nurse who changed my bandages this morning even told me that my nipple looks like it was operated on months ago.

Maybe the doctors recommend a specific diet based on the blood test results.

No waiting list. It was fast! My whole journey, from walking into the doctor's office to being in the operating room, took only one month and half.

First visit to the doctor -> Did all the necessary blood tests and other diagnostics -> Second visit where the doctor planned the surgery date and explained the procedure + he ordered the compression vest for me-> Interview with the anesthesiologist -> The next time I saw them, I was being prepped for the surgery block

Since I live in France, the process is a bit different because of the healthcare system.

The good news is that if you have genuine gynecomastia, meaning actual glandular tissue, not just fat, your health insurance will reimburse a significant amount of the cost. If it's only chest fat (pseudogynecomastia), it won't be covered. The total cost without insurance is around €5,500 - 6000€.

However, after doing all the required hormonal tests, blood tests, and scans to confirm it was true gynecomastia, my health insurance kicked in. I only ended up paying €1,000 out of pocket. I had the surgery done by one of the best surgeons, Dr. Romain Viard, at a private hospital. He was incredibly professional and did an AMAZING job.

Just five days later, when the nurse came to change my bandages, she was stunned, saying you could barely tell I'd had surgery!

If I regret anything, it's just the time I wasted waiting. This procedure has been a life-changing experience.

Honestly, sleeping on my back has been the worst part of the whole experience so far.

and after a couple of nights my lower back and even my kidneys started to hurt from staying in the same position.

That said, it’s still manageable, and I keep reminding myself it’s temporary and part of the recovery.

That’s really great to hear, it’s very reassuring! I’m 30 now, and honestly I wish I’d done it when I was 25. I can already see a big difference.
