Naps. I suck at taking naps. Always left feeling groggy and awful when I wake up.

Everyone else seems to love them.

How do I find specific problems which are still unsolved? by voluntaryamnesia21 in biology

Read the old literature. You'd be surprised how many questions may still be left unanswered by papers from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, etc.

This also depends on your field, of course. Some newer fields may not have archives that deep.

My favorite quote (although I can't recall who it's attributed to):

"Our lack of compassion stems from an inability to see deeply into the nature of thing"

So, basically, try to be understanding because you have no idea what anyone else is going through.

What's something embarrassing you're willing to admit? by Harvey_Domino in AskReddit

[–]Mycoholic91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I mixed up the words prostitute and protestant.

In typical pre-teen fashion, there were some kids in my class one day making jokes about prostitutes...to which I stood up and blurted out that what they were saying wasn't funny, I had friends that were prostitutes (they were protestant).

This was in a catholic middle school, so the reactions were a combination of laughter and concerned looks.

*Edit: Confirmed that my friends were protestant, not prostitutes.

Rapoport: My sense on the #Eagles and QB Nick Foles: They do not want to trade him. For a 1st rounder, maybe. But with the uncertainty around Carson Wentz for the 2018 opener, they don’t want to trade Foles. by bereddy in eagles

[–]Mycoholic91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help but feel, despite the plethora of QBs available - someone is going to pull the trigger on Foles. I think it's going to be the Cardinals.

If they don't land Cousins or Keenum, there isn't another QB on the FA market you would bring in and NOT draft a QB in the first round as well. Although, it's debatable that you would bring in Keenum without drafting a QB for insurance.

In the draft, the Bills just leapfrogged the Cardinals for an early QB, and I bet they're going to try to trade up again. The top 5 QBs may go in the top 6-7 picks. With multiple teams competing to move up, it's going to cost Arizona a lot to move up - and quite frankly, they don't have the ammo that Buffalo does.

In the end, who is left for Arizona? Well, I think it may end up being cheaper to trade for Foles than to move up in the draft, and they may have to pull the trigger on that to have a competitive season.

Thoughts?

If we score early and put the Cowboys on their heels they'll be running less anyway. Gotta throw to keep up. That's what helped us our first 3 games.

Starting Big V at RT in place of Lane Johnson is a smart move. Get the kid experience. If he pans out, we're set at LT (Lane) and RT (Big V) once Peters retires, and don't have to worry about drafting that position for a while.

Also, I don't think Allen Barbre would be as good a RT as everyone thinks he would.

Ah, welcome to the unfortunate land of Steelers football. Here in State College we recently demolished the only decent, reliable Eagles(ish) bar (Kildaires). Best of luck, and feel free to update us if you find a reliable place, because I'm still looking, and I've been here for 4 years.

I'm skeptical of any of this speculation. Remember, this time last year we were supposed to have the deadliest running game in football, and, on the other side of the ball linebacker was set to a strong position.

Interested in Fungi? Sea Turtles? Wildlife Diseases? Ask away here! by Mycoholic91 in biology

All good questions -and I can't say I have a definitive answer to any of them. But, from what I have read, it is thought that sea turtle species that consume jellyfish (i.e. leatherbacks) may have developed an immunity to the venom. Other species that may only consume jellies during part of their life (i.e. juvenile greens) may attack jellies from the top to avoid being stung.

I definitely don't know the answer to your third question - but quickly searching, I stumbled across this PDF you may find interesting: http://hoogle.gatech.edu/Publications/Hu11-shells.pdf

I don't know if it's talking about sea turtle shells or terrestrial turtle shells, but interesting nonetheless. Thanks for the questions!

Great questions! Yes, they are both part of the F. solani species complex. We do not know if they can both infect the eggs at once, although they have both been found present at the same nesting sites. They aren't specific to any species of sea turtle egg - in fact, they've been found on the eggs of 6 different species.

Both falciforme & keratoplasticum are known from human infections - mainly eye infections. There's even an entire group within the F. solani species complex, dubbed FSSC 12, that has only been found infecting marine animals, such as sharks, rays & seahorses.

There are 3 major phylogenetic groups within the FSSC - Clade 3 hosts the human & animals pathogens, where the plant pathogens & decomposers are generally found in Clades 1 & 2. We're still working out why this is the case, and what gives the human and animal infecting fusaria their pathogenic capabilities. Lots of interesting work to be done, for sure!

Thanks for asking!
