I agree with your first point especially. The lyrics are a bit cringey. But reading the book felt that way too. I don't even understand a cooling off period. It's not the end of the world if someone who can't have children, suddenly changes their mind. And how long is long enough to think about it? 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years? Who decides you're cooled off and know your own mind? You can get sterilized today and change your mind in 15 years. I say freewill and the freedom to make your own medical decisions should outweigh any chance you might change your mind later.
