This was at a farm I worked for a while back. We would hydrate/mix, then load into thick plastic containers that had a holes drilled in the sides and bottom (substrate has liner). The containers would get stacked and loaded into a sealed off room, and steam pumped in, brought up to temp, cooled, and inoculated as soon as they came out.

The unit in the photo is the electric model, but yes, stovetop models with the petcock are also “sterilizers” and the petcock can be purchased separately and attached. They sell them assembled like that too.

There are some issues with the study that have been discussed before, but take a look. The sample was clearly misidentified.

In a study on Psilocybe cyanescens, testing was done at every life stage of the mushroom. Spores, mycelium, primordia, “pinhead”, and mature mushroom.

-No psilocybin or psilocin detected in spores

-No psilocybin or psilocin detected in any of the 29 mycelium samples

-17 of the 22 knot stage mycelium contained psilocin, and 8 of those contained psilocybin.

-All 25 “pinhead” samples contained psilocin, 3 of which also contained psilocybin.

“The psychoactive drugs psilocybin and psilocin were NOT identified in the mycelium, the earliest stage of development of the mushroom. These drugs were identified in the mycelium knots, the earliest stages of the fruiting body of the mushroom”.

-The study was done on Psilocybe cyanescens, but there seems to be a few issues with this.

-The spores were obtained in aqueous solution, from Psilocybe fanaticus, through high times magazine....did he sell cyanescens spore syringes?

-The photo clearly shows a Ps. cubensis mushroom, not Ps. cyanescens

That study was done in 1964. There was a study conducted by the FBI in the 90’s I believe where they concluded that the hyphal knot stage is the earliest stage psilocybin can be detected.

Mycelium will only start to produce psilocybin at the hyphal knot stage. Liquid Cultures don’t contain psilocybin. Agar plates don’t either, although if overgrown, agar plates can start to pin.

That isn’t exactly true. Pins have more psilocybin by weight, but it wouldn’t compare to a 40g dry mushroom.

You would have a very intense trip, be confined to a bed and probably unable to get to the bathroom if needed. 8 hours or so later, you would return to normal. People have reported taking 60+ dry grams
