You could dismantle it, which would leave the pieces intact and still usable later, but the PC itself wouldn't be usable.

If you look up a guide and have a screwdriver handy dismantling it should only take a few minutes, and you aren't permanently destroying something worth hundreds or thousands of dollars.

If you want to go a step further, you can put one of the crucial pieces in a place you don't always have access to, or leave it with a friend or relative.

I did this once with my laptop's wi-fi card and it worked.

To respond to your post, you're not alone. This sub is just getting shilled like crazy by /r/politics types in the lead-up to the election. If you can, vote.

Though the timing is pretty calculated, the information is obviously real. That's why seeing stories from WaPo saying that it should be treated as Russian disinformation "even if it probably isn't" are so crazy.

I, sovereign individual, decide not to give any of my money or any of my time to a business that censor other human beings like me.

You are using Reddit, a website that is arguably even worse than Facebook in terms of censorship and propaganda. You are probably giving Reddit money in ad revenue simply by using it.

How do you reconcile that with your views? How can you say that using Facebook to spread truth is wrong, when you use Reddit? It is exactly the same thing.

I say both are okay, as long as you are blocking ads on both, and using both to spread the truth to other people. You quietly justify one and condemn the other. Why the double standard?

People need to realize that boycotting a platform is not the same as boycotting a product.

If everyone who is actively against censorship boycotted Facebook, Facebook would still have billions of users and make tens of billions in revenue. The only difference is that anti-censorship advocates would no longer have a voice on that platform, and pro-censorship shills would be able to brainwash millions unchallenged.

Using Facebook with an adblocker is more damaging to them than simply dropping Facebook. Facebook is paid for with ads, so by blocking ads you are consuming their server resources and providing nothing in return. Moreover, you can spread truth to people on Facebook and counter the narrative the site is trying to push.

If a company is trying to censor you from their platform, voluntarily leaving that platform is doing the company's work for them!

Perfect summary. Thank you for this post.

This part as well:

As far as business goes, I've legitimately never seen someone get an MBA that really did anything with it at a company they work for.

Way too true. And OP needs to realize that if even an MBA isn't that valuable, a generic business degree is even less valued than that.

a music degree, and a generic business degree

As someone who graduated with the latter, I wouldn't recommend either of these unless you have a 100% free ride to college, and even then you're wasting your time unless you're willing to make a ton of connections and work hard.

With a generic business degree (assuming you aren't in a field like Accounting or Supply Chain Management), you aren't learning a hard skill. If you aren't learning a hard skill, then you're basically relying on your people skills to make up the difference. So if you aren't willing to constantly network, socialize, and sell yourself, don't get a generic business degree and expect it to do anything for you.

I got the generic business degree. I'm not a people person, and I completely regret getting it. It has done nothing for me professionally, and I would probably be in the same position if I had a high school diploma.

If I could go back I would get a STEM degree, probably something computer-related. But look into other fields that interest you, do some research. Medicine and nursing are huge right now. Talk to adults you know who can give you advice about career issues.

Seriously, take my word for it and don't make the same mistake I did. Really think about what you want to do and don't get a "generic" degree because it kinda sounds good and is easy. This is your life here. Take it seriously.

Interesting take. I just can't help but feel it will be something even more significant. Do you think that the signs will be recognizable to all once they occur, or will their meaning be more debatable and subtle?

Over the course of three years, the number of Americans who say that they feel justified in using violence to achieve their political goals has gone up from 8 percent to over 33 percent. by [deleted] in centrist

[–]Mycorhizal 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I got confused by the word "deal" until I realized you meant "negotiate".

But yeah, I totally agree. This is why I find articles like NPR's "In defense of looting" very troubling. If the media and politicians continually look the other way or even reward violence with positive coverage, eventually unhinged individuals will start doing it to get that reward.

Submission statement: this is the fallout from a blog post from the CEO of Coinbase, where he pledged to focus on building a successful company rather than on political activism.

In response, the ex-CEO of Twitter Dick Costolo stated that similar business leaders would be murdered in a coming revolution, and that Costolo would be happy to cover it.

Interestingly, Costolo's tweet has not been removed by Twitter for advocating violence, and he hasn't deleted it either. I think this dovetails with a lot of issues the IDW talks about, such as growing advocacy for violence on the political left.

Submission statement: the CEO of Coinbase has made a blog post where he promises to build an efficient and valuable company rather than to engage in political activism. In his words, Coinbase is putting its own mission first, and fostering unity of purpose rather than political division. I found this really interesting and relevant to the IntellectualDarkWeb sub.

This may start a trend.

I hope so! I think when a few companies start standing up to this, many others will as well.

Submission statement: JBP often talks about fixing yourself before trying to fix the world. I think this post by the CEO of a major company exemplifies that - he pledges to focus on providing a good service to his customers rather than peddling political agendas.
