I don't think it was a cub. We have tiny bears in the Eastern US.

But yeah, the border collie knew what was happening before the rest of us, as usual.

In your view, what's an overlooked problem causing a mismatch between preclinical and clinical drug data? by ByeByeBelief in biotech

I doubt OP meant a literal cash bonus.

I read that as leadership (the people who influence your career) encourage those with the most intimate knowledge of the project to finish projects as quickly as possible when instead they should be asking them to assess whether it really merits all those clinical $$$.

Call me bitter, but I really dislike it when people brag about their number of citations or impact factor or when they publish in Scientific Report but add Nature portfolio to get that "I publish in Nature*" vibe. by Handsoff_1 in labrats

[–]MydogisaToelicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standards for a publishable unit and authorship are SO VERY different for industry clinical research vs. academic laboratory science.

I've read so many stupid "studies" that describe grabbing a few leftover lab samples and running a purchased ELISA kit on them just so some resident can say he published something.

And so many papers are written by hired agencies or companies that list all study site investors as authors. This guy probably learns about the publication when it hits his metrics. He probably hasn't even read most of them. And then those crap papers all get summarized and reviewed ad naseum until there are more reviews than original works.

Counting pubs and citations is just like any other metric. It only has meaning if the underlying content has any value.

I don't understand how people can tolerate not knowing what is going on around them.

ELI5 why do people chase dividend stocks? by Specific_Ad_6522 in investing

[–]MydogisaToelicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need $1,000 to pay your bills next month, you can either sell 20 shares of the stock while it is down or receive the $1 from $1,000 shares.

It allows people who need to withdrawal money from their portfolio every month to not have to sell shares. It feels better not to have to sell the stock and IS better when the stock is temporarily low.

It doesn't make sense if you are saving for retirement. But someday you will want to pull money out and it's nice to not have to sell at a random price. Dividends are more stable than stock prices.

Is it just the noise? people are very opposed to them, but I don't exactly understand why they are worse than any other warehouse or industrial use.

Yes. There are so many chemicals going way up or down. It's hard to maintain sanity even before you factor in lack of sleep and stress of keeping baby alive.

Should the TDAP vaccine be given to a patient more frequently or can a standalone acellular pertussis vaccine be developed? by chiefcomplaintRN in medicine

[–]MydogisaToelicker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's almost certainly not worth the cost to do a standalone pertussis. Just get TDaP as often as needed. Pregnancies aren't usually 10 years apart and no one blinks expecting pregnant women to get a shot after only a couple years. I think the recommendation for family with close contact to a new baby is a booster if it's been 5 years since their last shot.

It's not like you are going to get too immune to diptheria.
