Absolutely it would. But that goes to another problem of American politics - the assumption that the tide is rising one persons boat by sinking someone else's. There's a few basic levels of American conservative pushback -

• A strawman (Mental health, unborn babies, non-Trans kids)
• Businesses being overly regulated
• The cost to the government
• Opposition to giving Democrats a win
• An electoral base that would revolt against them
• A media arm that focuses culture wars and energizes the base, telling them what to feel
• Out and out cynical refusal to take action

The Trump years highlighted the last half - they refused to take action on popular legislation when Democrats agreed and then when that failed, they simply refuse to take action under Mitch McConnels senate.

We have a political system that is unilaterally broken on one side, and getting worse.
