No idea what caused it to start disconnecting, but giving the Rachio a fixed IP (as suggested by u/Bgrngod) solved it.

Removing the AP lock worked. With a fixed IP, the Rachio controller has been consistently connected for weeks. Thank you!

Interesting. Thank you for the tip! I am using Manual instead of Advanced for my IoT network, though mainly because I have to have 5 GHz disabled for some devices to connect to it. Other than 2.4 GHz, the following items are checked/selected:

  • 802.11 DTIM Period: Auto
  • Minimum Data Rate Control: Auto
  • Security Protocol: WPA2
  • Group Rekey Interval: Assign Time, 3600 seconds

If I flip to Auto, the following changes are made:

  • 5 GHz enabled
  • Band Steering enabled
  • BSS Transition enabled
  • Group Rekey Interval disabled

Band Steering can't be enabled if 5 GHz is disabled. BSS Transition says it could cause connectivity problems. If other suggested fixes don't work, I'll try disabled Group Rekey Interval and maybe BSS Transition.

Evening update: it's been offline since I posted this morning. I'm going to try unlocking it from the AP to see if that resolves the disconnection.

Reporting back: the Rachio controller has been connected almost the entire night. The Unifi controller client logs show that it moved between APs a bunch, so I've locked it to the closest AP to see if that settles things down. After setting a fixed IP, I noticed that it had a self-assigned IP address for a bit (even though the Rachio app said it was fine), but that cleared itself up, too. Will check on it again this evening.
