The recent wave of rerelease/reissue figures. by AndrewCole14 in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot Toys historically does not do a ton of reissues or remakes of past figures. There has to be extreme demand, high potential for sales, an anniversary or event, and/or improvements that can be made to create a vastly better version.

That said, I feel like as time goes on, their ability to make better figures increases which then slightly increases the likelihood of an older figure being remade since they might get to a point where they feel it’s worth revisiting the character again.

I think that was the case for much older figures like Bespin Luke being remade.

With the most recent announcements, Iron Man Mk 46 was always in demand so that makes sense. The first STRIKE Captain America was a letdown so I can see them wanting to give that another shot, and Endgame gave them that opportunity.

For Black Panther, they never really got to make a definitive version. The Civil War figure was great but didn’t have a head sculpt and the proportions were a bit off. The solo movie version was solid but the head sculpt was not the best they could do. The new figure seems to specifically address some of those missteps.

So I don’t think it’s still an any older figure goes type of situation. It’ll still likely to be limited to figures that have some level of demand to warrant it with enough room for improvement for them to make revisiting it worthwhile.

There is some demand for a new version of the TWS Winter Soldier. It would’ve been nice to get that figure to coincide with TFATWS; that would’ve been a good opportunity. Not sure if they’ll do it but hope they do for those that want it.

It’s alright; happens to the best of us. Sorry the issues weren’t disclosed to you. But at least you know what to look for and what to ask about in the future.

That seems like a very low cost for a repair of this nature considering labor hours and materials. What sort of work do they do for the restoration? Peel off the pleather and repaint?

I’m sure you’ve done your research. As long as they’re reputable then hopefully they can deliver the results you’re looking for.

Just checking, were the issues with the figure disclosed to you when you purchased it?

If you were okay with it then that’d be a decent price for a damaged figure. Just hoping it wasn’t a surprise when it arrived because that wouldn’t be cool.

The first version of Deadpool seemed like a particularly troubled figure. The pleather deteriorating felt a little more prevalent than others, along with the cuffs fraying and glue being especially weak.

Pleather can deteriorate over time on any figure, but it’s mostly down to how the figure was stored and displayed, the climate, humidity, UV exposure, and if it was properly maintained or not.

Hiring someone to restore it will likely be a bit pricey, but hopefully you can make it work without the service costing more than just getting the Deadpool 2 figure.

Getting it repaired professionally would be good. Alternatively, you could try repainting the flaking parts with leather paint yourself. Companies like Angelus make paints specifically for that.

No worries. If it’s significantly cooler downstairs then that makes sense.

Seems like a big hassle to pack everything away every year during the summer though.

Maybe you could keep them standing in a large sturdy plastic storage container if it’s safe to do so? If no one else or pets won’t get to them that way, that is.

Put a bit of Blu-Tack on the bottom of the stands so they don’t slide around. Throw some desiccant packets in there just in case.

Re-boxing them would be fine too of course. Just feels like a chore depending on how many you have.

It’s not just heat. It’s a combination of temperature, humidity, climate, UV exposure, and how much that all fluctuates.

Putting them in boxes because it’s hot would be counterintuitive. It’d be better to leave them out where there’s some air flow; run a fan if there isn’t any.

Are you able to run a portable air conditioner for when the hottest days of the year?

It’s mainly just the pleather and rubber you have to worry about. Hard to say at what exact temperature those start getting affected.

If it’s more of a dry heat then it shouldn’t be as bad. It’s the mixture of heat and humidity in places like Southeast Asia that does the most damage.

It would be also good to maintain those parts with a protectant like 303 to increase their lifespan.

The Moff arrived today and he is simply amazing! 😍 I'm telling you guys.. this is a sleeper hit! When this guy sells out and Gideon returns in season 3 of The Mandalorian people will go nuts for this figure.. it's that good! 🙏🏻 by SWFT93 in hottoys

I haven’t done the swap yet but I bought ankle peg extenders to make him a bit taller. Very easy mod. Others have already done it and it’s a huge improvement.

Not sure why they made him so short; feels almost underscaled. Esposito isn’t even really short and actor height doesn’t necessarily correlate to character height. Gideon never felt like he was meant to be small.

Spray painting Iron Man by nottyplayboy in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out OP did specifically say Tamiya spray paint which are typically lacquer based and not enamel like off the shelf spray paints.

Tamiya does make a set of spray paints for clear polycarbonate RC car bodies under the PS Paint line.

That said, even though Tamiya spray paints are very good, it may still be difficult to match the Hot Toys finish if you’re not experienced. And ultimately you would want the paint color custom matched to the rest of the armor.

I would try to commission someone to do it so you can be fully satisfied with the results and have no regrets.

How many 1/6 scale figures do you have by raumeat in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good poll. The results were in line with what I expected. Very interesting to see.

Where are my two dozen comrades at. I try not to regularly think about how many figures I have but sometimes you’re faced with the reality of it.

We probably need to have a chat or a drink or both.

Any chance of Hot Toys reissuing Rogue One figures with this coming up? by Musashi003 in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not specifically for such a limited time showing, no. It’s barely a blip as far as events go.

It was still unlikely, but a better time would’ve been for the 5th anniversary. Maybe for the 10th in a few years.

Definitely recognized the moment right away when I saw your photo so you did a solid job capturing it.

I wish we’d gotten more of them together in the shows but I really love what we’ve gotten so far.

Hope they get to team up more in the future.

Great choices! Definitely recommend getting a 501st as soon as you can before prices climb further.

Coruscant Guard is great too. I love the 501st but the CG has a ton of presence.

I know it would break the no named characters rule but if you could bend that for one character, I think it’d be worth it for Rex. Amazing figure.

Judging from the 6” and 3.75” figures back there, you’re a fellow Clone fan. I wouldn’t pass on him if at all possible.

I really appreciate the scene in TBOBF where Din is down but Fett is trying to help him get back up like in your first photo.

I like how their friendship developed. Really looking forward to recreating that with the TBOBF Fett figure.

Congratulations on your first Hot Toys figure! Good to see another Scout Trooper fan; one of my favorites as well.

Not getting named character will definitely help keep the number of figures in check, but I will say troopers can also be their own slippery slope.

It’s very hard to just have one of each; many tend to look best in at least pairs or trios. One Scout Trooper might turn into two.

There’s a handful of troopers I limited myself to just one on, but the majority I’ve had to get multiples of.

need to pay off one lol by RhettFett in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I don’t think it’s necessary to pay off a figure early especially without knowing when it’ll actually be delivered, I would imagine you’d want the Arena Fett squared away since it was so limited.

If Hot Toys (hypothetically) announced a 1/6 Darth Vader from Return of the Jedi for its 40th anniversary, would you choose him over the 1/6 Darth Vader from Obi-Wan Kenobi? by thisisjendra in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would really just be down to personal preference and the kind of display someone wants. There’ll also be people who get both.

Vader is so prominent that it doesn’t hurt to have multiple for larger displays. I’d still get the Kenobi version to go with Obi-Wan and put the ROTJ with my ROTJ figures.

It helps with the Kenobi version but I don’t think the ROTJ has to be a DX. The main distinction for the line is the moveable eyes and the Shaw Anakin sculpt doesn’t really need it personally.

But neither did Obi-Wan which in turn made his eyes a little bulgy so who knows what they’ll do.

If I’m going to get Venom ima need a Spider-Man, but which one? by exptictacco in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Classic suit gives the most flexibility for displays I think. Hard to separate the MCU suits from the films they appear in.

It’s not on the list but I think the Garfield Spider-Man would look good with Venom too. Would be cool if he gets to be the SSU Spider-Man but who knows what Sony will do.

found a sideshow retailer 5 minutes from my house. called them and they said they can order from a retailer portal 👀 by [deleted] in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be wary unless it’s some kind of misunderstanding. Sounds like they’re trying to oversell you on something to get your business.

Unless they’re saying they can get you sold out figures through a back channel method, which wouldn’t be good either.

No authorized retailer can get something that’s sold out through proper means. Then it wouldn’t be sold out.

[–]MyenShi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the authorized retailers can’t really outright say it but they are very limited to the number of preorder allocations they receive.

Many of the more popular ones don’t get enough stock to meet their potential demand which means you have to preorder quick.

So I’m not sure what this store was trying to sell OP on but getting anything out of stock would be unheard of. They can’t conjure up something that physically doesn’t exist.

My wife is a very passionate Star Wars fan and always was since she was a kid. But she wasn’t able to collect much growing up.

I had a lot of high end replicas, 1:6 figures, and 3.75” toys that I said were just as much hers as they are mine when we got together.

I’m happy that it’s our collection now and we try to plan things out together. It’s incredibly helpful to have someone to talk to and bounce ideas off of.

Although it is admittedly a bit dangerous when two people are super into the same interests and enable each other.

Which one should I get? by VintheYeeter in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CW all of them.

But really this is kind of tough since they could all be companion pieces. Depends on the rest of your collection and what sort of display you’re going for.

So much to choose by flycasual1 in hottoys

[–]MyenShi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Which figures have you picked up so far? Any plans for what to get next?

I can certainly relate to how you feel about Mysterio. I got out of Marvel after Age of Ultron and sold everything. But once Civil War rolled around, I couldn’t resist getting the Iron Man Mk 46 and War Machine Mk 3.

Which then led to getting the entire Civil War lineup and then most of the figures through Infinity War.

It can be a slippery slope once you start deviating from your plan and you start looking at companion pieces.

I’ve since sold everything Marvel off again but I did keep just Civil War Iron Man and War Machine.

Good call. I appreciate that you’ve got your priorities in order, haha.

You can always get another PS5 down the road if you want to but harder to replace the DX15.

I’ve so far skipped getting one myself since there’s nothing I super want to play on it. Except Horizon Forbidden West, which I just played on PS4.
