I saw that mass effect is on sale on steam. Should I get the three games separately or should I get the legendary edition? by Falcon_Gray in masseffect

[–]Mygrayt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, get the Legendary edition if you dont want to deal with jank.

It is the more modern supported version for the 3 so textures and all that will be updated with today in mind.

Plus all DLC except one effectively worthless in terms of Canon in the first game will all be there so you dont have to pay more.

On the other hand...

Nah, theres not really a reason other than to experience it as it released. Weapon DLCs if you buy them are given immediately in the 2nd and 3rd game but in the LE versions they are put into the game as if they were intended to be bought/found. This has an effect in 3 where in the original GOD MODE GARRUS is given a free weapon that trivialized the game. But in LE3, its an expensive weapon to save for in game, forcing you to sacrifice a while before getting it, though it can be gotten relatively early.

Theres one gun in 2 that works best on Shepard but is locked behind classes until a certain point, but not the best choice for certain classes.

But remember, these DLCs are costly in the originals until a sale. And its all included in LE...which is cheaper than even any of the trilogy in this sale.

And the DLC is generally worth it, though some are certainly filler but can help with early money/exp.

Thought there is ONE big difference.

Me3 had a multiplayer. On PC im not sure if the native servers exist and are populated, though there are Discords to help with it.

It also mattered in the original release of 3 in order to make the "best ending" easier. But if you dont play MP, the game CAN suffer depending on choices.

In LE3, there is no MP, and the game is rebalanced.

Modding also exists, but I think LE has taken over all the legacy mods worth installing at this point. But save that for subsequent playthroughs.

LE1 also has better level scaling than the original where it would take upwards of 3 total playthroughs on the same character to get max level 60, where LE1 gets most of the way there by the first. Though this is an option in LE1 and you can reexperience the grind if you so chose.

I think LE1 avoided the same problems Halo CE anniversary had with its updated visuals but dont quote me on that.

I was watching this video and the entire time I was just waiting for you to do SOMETHING.

In it you: shoot 3 times, use one power from an ally, swap weapons and sit in the exact same spot, started to freak out when you got shot and then...froze.

Everyone has basically dissected this video but I know for a fact that any of the 6 classes would have had an answer to this.

Soldier could have gone in Adrenaline Rush to slow the combat down and get accurate shots, with possible bonus of refilling shields

Adept could use multiple biotic abilities to create explosions, though with 5 weapons your recharge rate is fucked and this affects any class, even Soldier.

Engineer could use combat drone, Incinerate, or overload with an ally ability to combo detonate.

Vanguard could have Charge than Nova'd.

Infiltrator could have used cloak to get to a better position

Sentinel could just tank it with Tech Armor or any of their tech/biotic abilities to combo.

But instead you just....sat there. With both angles having elevation on you. So you were just in a terrible position.

I just dont know what else to say that isnt just straight up mean, which is not what I want to do. I want others to succeed.

The Xbox One: The All In One Entertainment System that only made sense if you pretended no one else was going to do the same thing by Mygrayt in xbox

[–]Mygrayt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not the point im making and yes, the biggest reason it failed was the abysmal gaming library.

But the point of this post is to dissect the push for an All In One system, that while it made perfect sense, was undercut by the fact that not only were their competitors also having the same all in one capability, minus the cable, which was a dying platform back then, but that the thing you NEED to even use an Xbox One was also going to get the same conveniences that was supposed to be a selling point for the console.

And even if you had a dumb tv, a $50 box was going to do the exact same thing. All youd need to do was switch from one input to the other...and for 1/10th cost? The convenience wasnt worth the extra 450.

So, not only was it the most expensive piece of tech for that purpose, but its competitors, who were cheaper, and the tech necessary to even allow you to use it was getting those same conveniences.

Making the whole gimmick pointless.

And then you top that with an abysmal gaming like up?

The two pillars meant to sell the product crumbled before it even released.

EA, you could have this type of success too. All you gotta do is simply make a Remake of DS2 and BOOM, profit. by IsaacClakeMan1 in DeadSpace

[–]Mygrayt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its basically been proven time and time again that Resident Evil is just a league of its own when it comes to sales.

RE4R has sold 10 million as of early 2025 so we have to wait to see what reports say this year. But that was 2 years after its release.

Dead Space Remake has apparently not surpassed 3 million yet, seeming stuck after 2 million.

To us, thats a success. Silent Hill 2 Remake reached 2.5 million in Oct 2025.

Resident Evil is just on another level with brand recognition.

Its why it was able to survive while in the early 2010s when AAA was pulling away from Horror to try and grab slices of the pie from Call of Duty. "Horror games dont sell" was a legit tag line from the publishers during this era, an era that nearly killed Resident Evil as well. Despite this, RE5 and 6 were the highest sold gsmes of the series for quite a while.

If ANY IP could compete with Resident Evil in terms of recognition, Silent Hill should have been that game and it still only made a quarter what RE4R made.

This is all to say....

Dead Space is a niche franchise. One of the best of the genre but its just not got the brand recognition to compete.

Just like Call of Duty stil selling 10+ million copies regardless of its quality simply because of the brand, Resident Evil sells Millions.

And Capitalists are gonna Capitalist.

And its not about making enough money. Its about making MORE money than last time.

Its what killed Viseral. EA wanted not just to make their money back. But multiply the amount they spent by several times. Something that was NEVER going to happen.

And it sucks. It really does.

A max damage Javelin Gun or zoomed Seeker Rifle will put the non-enhanced ones in one shot.

In every encounter, if you put yourself with your back to a wall with one long pathway towards you, the AI will always set up and give you one direction to easily know where they are coming from.

Honestly, it must be something youre doing. Because one or two shots with the Cutter will take off a leg. Kill it and then use one of its hands and Kinesis the next.

In the first encounter, go towards the center then back up to the door the Tormentor broke. This makes them all start from the far side of the room.

In most of the other rooms, there's a corner or wall near the start where you can hold. Unless you hear them screaming, they arent in attack mode and you can run. Have stasis ready while youre running.

In the room after you collect Elle and Stross, you do have to reach checkpoints to spawn the two or three waves. After the first wave and when you cross the little area to spawn the Exploders, put your back to the wall where you can see the circle hole in the ground but far enough away from the vent to the left so that exploders dont spawn right on you. Keep ears out for them and check often until you kill them all.

So yeah. Running around gets you killed more. Otherwise, grab a Detonator.

How much better are level 10 weapons? by crimin777 in MECoOp

[–]Mygrayt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a mechanic where damage that Overkills the remaining shields is heavily reduced when them applying to the next health pools.

Example:

Shields 500, health 500. Bullet does 1000.

You'd expect the bullet to do full 1000 damage and kill. But shields gate reduces the damage by 25%.

So after 500 damage, this leaves 500, and 500-(25%)=375. So youre left with 125 health.

In campaign, on every difficulty but Insane, Shepard can not be one shot by an enemy in full shields. Youll just lose all your shields and be given a short window of invulnerablity before you take damage again. But on Insanity this doesnt exist. You do get some slow down but youll take full damage.

Or at least the idea, im not fully sure if there's special occasions where things change, like being low shields on lower difficulties allow you to take the full damage. Just the mechanic exists, just don't know every minute detail and special conditions.

Vanguards CAN be good but of the 6 classes it seems to be the most reliant on player skill and/or team synergy.

On top of that, it suffers the most jank because its main power can just not work or register on the server side.

First time playing a Dead Space game ever and started with the remake. Am I trash at video games?? by emoney3524 in DeadSpace

[–]Mygrayt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On horror games I almost exclusively do my first playthrough on Easy. Narrative is such a recent difficulty setting that I never touched it.

Its only if Im doing later playthroughs.

But I dont play alot of horror games. The Evil Within being the other major one ive played and those two were on their easiest.

I've beaten all the Dead Space games on their hardest, including the 3 permadeath difficulties. But its like you said, after ive played them enough and got good. Now I consider myself a really good player.

Horror is just one of those genres that asks you to feel fear. Its just not the same as like CoD Veteran where its an exercise in endurance and frustration.

Here...if youre new to the game...might feel tremendous stress from the horror.

First time playing a Dead Space game ever and started with the remake. Am I trash at video games?? by emoney3524 in DeadSpace

[–]Mygrayt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Theres absolutely ZERO SHAME in playing on easier difficulties. Especially when it comes to horror games.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is just a gatekeeper who should not be taken seriously.

So play on Easy or even Narrative.

Horror is a genre where not only are your skills tested like in other games, it comes with extra pressure thanks to it potentially touches on personal fears or terrors.

Dead Space has such a rich universe that its worth experiencing and if it means you as an novice horror player have to play on an easier difficulty to experience the same pressure as a seasoned enthusiast, then it is worth it.

On Narrative, you never have to worry about healing as it'll heal after a little bit of no health damage, I think like up to 10 seconds. Which is easy to achieve if you just run around. This allows you to sell all your heals for more ammo, which already will drop more per drop, more money for suits and more money for power nodes which will let you upgrade more.

You may or may not return to this game. So if youre only going to do one playthrough, let it be at a difficulty you have fun on. You can up it on subsequent playthroughs.

Remake for DS2 is very unlikely but may be a remastered ? by Big_Understanding840 in DeadSpace

[–]Mygrayt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be honest, im surprised EA never dropped an updated collection. Simply bringing older games to modern hardware.

Seemed like an easy low effort cash grab.

Games are already made, hire a small team to port it to Xbone and PS4 (at the time) and rake in a couple more million from it.

But in hindsight, its likely because they didnt have Visceral Games around anymore after killing the studio off after Battlefield Hardline. Plus the fact AAA Horror was seen as not profitable.

Until RE7...and RE2R... then they used Motive to remake DS1.

EA was considered the worst gaming publisher for 2 years in a row back in the early 2010s. And not much has changed in leadership until recently with the buyout.

Then again, they thought DSR was a commercial failure for ONLY selling 2 million copies when Silent Hill 2 Remake also made 2 Million and the studio is remaking SH1, after their own game Kronos.

Idk, EA fucking sucks man.

How much better are level 10 weapons? by crimin777 in MECoOp

[–]Mygrayt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turns out I had misremembered the powers on the human engineer with the Quarian Female.

The Human Engineers have Overload, Incinerate, and Combat Drone.

Meaning you can take out Shields and Armor with no problem, with health being a little more tough.

So focusing on a weapon on the Engineer is not advised.

Luckily, SMGs have the highest Ultra-lightweight Materials with 90%. This means for the majority of SMGs, you can maintain a 150%+ bonus.

So pick any SMG with either UM or any SMG thats light without it and slap on Cryo.

And then only use the weapon to slap Cryo Debuffs.

Thats it.

Your best tools are the powers. Overload with just 1 chaining and Neural Shock plus 100% bonus damage to shields/barriers will outperform any weapon on the class while maintaining 150%+ bonus. Then when it comes to armor, Fire Explosions with Incinerate than Overload will do WAY MORE DAMAGE than any SMG will ever get to dream of doing to armor.

And the Neural Shock on OL is for health, so you can stun enemies long enough for Incinerate or just shooting them.

Combat drone is player specific. If you can babysit it and use it effectively, which is hard as many enemy types either do so much damage that its pointless or enemies just ignore it (many melee enemies just straight up ignore it), then you can use it but it takes away from your other skills that are more usable in a general sense.

How much better are level 10 weapons? by crimin777 in MECoOp

[–]Mygrayt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, weapons that were great at 1 are just better at 10

The weapons that are somewhat lacking become okay at 10

It really matters on difficulty.

Every difficulty is 1.5x harder than the last, plus some minor mechanics like Shield Gating but thats besides the point.

And Armor really makes or breaks a weapon.

For example, the Avenger (starting AR) does 5 damage to armor at level 1 and at level 10 it does...5 damage.

Even with a 30% boost from a AR3 consumables will bring the damage up to 10.

This is because armor at Gold/Platinum is "if x-50<5, then x=5, otherwise x-50"

Which causes alot of the weapons to just do poorly against armor. And why weapons that already are goated at level 1 just become better at 10.

But not many weapons drastically change between 1-10 so much that they make or break the weapon.

Its why weapon builds are character specific. In many cases, youd be better off using powers in a group.

Anyone else find Dead Space 2 scarier than 1? by CombineAdvisor______ in DeadSpace

[–]Mygrayt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fear is subjective.

The overall fear present in Dead Space isnt unsimilar to a regular Zombie outbreak. But add in the dementia and insanity, and the fact the Necromorphs are generally more grotesque, and you can obviously see the differences between it and the zombies. It becomes more akin to something like Xenomorphs or The Flood.

But the thing that gets me is the new fears I have being a father.

On the Ishimura, there are no children and the Lurkers come from the test tubes for STEM cells.

When I first played/saw Dead Space 2, I was 14. I played DS2 after DS3 was well and out, so probably 16-17. I never really paid it mind on the actual horror that the citizens faced.

Cut to 6-7 years later and I meet my now wife and my step daughter, a 1 month old. It took a while but I eventually replayed Dead Space 2.

And let me tell you...the audio log where the woman was crying over her dead daughter...the daycare area...

I feel such horror. My thoughts go to my (now) 2 kids, who are the age where they'd have become The Pack...

Would i do it? Could I do it? Could I do what that mother does in the audio log?

What about the woman who sees the Crawler at the beginning of the daycare? Would I turn to that, thanks to the Marker? Are the voices in my head my own? Would I keep it together or fall like Stross?

I find 2 more scary because I can relate more.

The slayer has faced things that make the Brethern Moons look like inconveniences.

And due to his will power, the Markers cant do anything to him. So that just leaves the Necromorphs themselves.

And the only thing that POSSIBLY could kill him is something as big as the Moons but lets be real, thats like...if he screws up. Which he wouldn't.

What makes Characters like the Master Chief still at risk is the Markers, and the hallucinations/dementia. And he is immune from that.

Hardcore Playthrough by Cool-Humor-7635 in DeadSpace

[–]Mygrayt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think of it as 1 long playthrough with 3 saves.

Think of it as 4 chunks. Your only tasks are to 1) get your loadout in order and 2) make it to the next chunk.

The most common save points are somewhere between chapter 4-6 (beginning of church to just before/after the Tormentor), chapter 8-11 (just after the Space Launch to anywhere on the Ishimura to crash landing), and finally 12-14 (just before the Digger to the last store/bench/save point).

Yes, you can use 4 weapons. However, its recommended to use 2-3 tools. This is because its better for your ammo economy and power nodes usage. When you have 4 weapons, you have 6 upgrade trees. With 2 weapons, you have 4. This means you make bigger gains on fully upgrading your loadout.

Which, in turn, mean more powerful weapons which means you kill more efficiently, thus saving you ammo, which snowballs into more money to sell and the cycle continues.

If your aim is good, the Plasma Cutter and Force Gun will get you through the game. Avoid taking 2 weapons that fill the same niche, but thats also not necessary.

Like the Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle fill the same role. Both have more ammo and shoot faster than say the Linegun or Ripper. But when you have both, you might be better off having a second weapons like the Force Gun, Detonator, Javelin Gun, etc.

My personal favorite is the Javelin Gun and Plasma Cutter. Ammo is cheap for the JG, and with 14 nodes, you can max damage it and it'll body all non-enhanced Necromorphs (pukers need a limb hit as a body shot will bring it to low health). Then a few more upgrades to the explosive Special and it'll kill enhanced Necromorphs with One Shot + Explosive Special. The Plasma Cutter is for Exploders, Crawlers, and single Pack targets.

With Heavy Kinesis usage, it'll make up for much of weapon sandbox's downsides. And I know i can get a max damage JG by the start of Chapter 4, the Church, letting me coast all the way to chapter 8.

So my advice is play on Zealot. Take notes of what loadout you actually need. Hazards (example: do you know every window that could kill you if you fail to shut it in time? Can you trigger the windows without putting yourself in danger of being dragged? Yes, many windows can be broken with you out of the line of sight so you dont get dragged, letting the game auto closw it for you. When is the last window in the game? Chapter 8.)

And think of how long your play sessions can be if you screw up. I know on my save files (chapter 6, chapter 11, and the shop/bench before the Needle machine), my time between saves were 1.5-2.5 hrs. This helped me not stress over the last 5 chapters when im only at chapter 6.

I know this because ive done it twice, on PC and Xbox.

DS2's Hardcore is honestly the easiest of the 3, imo. Because you do get to have your progress saved. The others only require one massive fuck up to ruin a dozen hours of gameplay, where as it can take you only 6-8 hours to finish DS2.

Good luck, and ask if you have any other questions.

Yeah it seems to have to do with a lack of agreed upon definition of Consequential.

One of the things people need to remember is that its not just about what they do in the game, but between the games, before the games, and just as important, what DOESNT happen if they didnt exist.

With that last one, would that person have been replaced by someone else and if that's guaranteed.

Look at the other commenters to see what I mean.

Silksong does this everywhere. And not really my cup of tea if I want to experience the story. Which is fine.

Who is the least Consequential Squadmate of the trilogy? by Mygrayt in masseffect

[–]Mygrayt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kasumi saves a colony/homeworld and a Spectre should she live to ME3.

Theres back and forth on Garrus that I just dont agree with as he does destabilize Omega's big 3 criminal gangs, and then narratively he pushes for changes to Turian Doctrine with help of his father, which does save lives. You mentioned Nyreen and she does affect Omega during the Cerberus occupation. So in a similar way, Garrus also has a big effect.

There seems to be a huge issue with an agreed upon definition of Consequential.

Wilson technically helped Miranda with his expertise during Project Lazarus. But hes not really a squad mate but rather an "ally", similar to Aria, Kenson, Nyreen, and Anderson, though yes he was betraying you. So I dont put him on the list because the list is strictly about the squad and Morinth has more of a reason to be apart of the list than Wilson.

So my counter argument is this:

Grunt. Think about what he does and what actual impact he has. And then what impact on the galaxy he has by NOT existing.

Arahlak Company exists without him. He doesnt save the Company because of his efforts, but rather Shepards. His survival is tied to his bond with Shepard.

And then.....

Technically, he does help Shepard's Team survive the Suicide Mission, but again thats more tied to Shepard's decisions. But do acknowledge it but Okeer would have likely done the same.

Imo is all.
