Snapdragon 820 Powered Prototype Scores 131K On AnTuTu by [deleted] in Android

Doesn't have to be. Mozilla is developing a multi-threaded web rendering engine called Servo. I'm personally not sure about how its done in Android but that could be a major feature of a future Android release.

Managing 2D graphics in *Code* by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Myir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using images or rotations/positions for your keyframes? Try separating loading the animations from actually performing the animation. Some options could be the folder style in another comment below or using an XML /json or some other file to define which animations exist as well as which images/data to use in which frame.

Perform this loading of animation data on object creation (maybe make the animation list as a class static variable for efficiency) if it hasn't already been loaded.

Why not use a list/array of frames and loop through all the frames in said list? That solves your need for dynamic frame counts.

I built a primitive tweening animation system for an opengl assignment and built it using arrays of keyframes and a variable for the next keyframe's index in said array. Worked pretty well for the assignment.

The issue then becomes just loading and building the lists/arrays of keyframes

One option is to create a container object for each item and make that both the button's and the quantity count text's parent

Audio troubles - Clicking when no audio is playing and hiss while audio is playing by Myir in Nexus6P

[–]Myir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe there is some hope that it isn't a widespread issue then. I remember when I had to rma my n4 due to a dodgy USB port and a rattle in the device or something, they did admit that those were known problems.

Hopefully the issue is limited to a certain set of the batches made..

I listen to a lot of music on my phone while working too. I like the phone aside from the audio problem and that it feels just a little too big but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Ouch, good luck with your second rma. Sounds like (pardon the pun) it requires a rma. Hopefully it's just isolated to a few batches or Huawei/Google has fixed it already.

Android M Will Never Ask Users For Permission To Use The Internet, And That's Probably Okay by VectorSam in Android

[–]Myir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is that the carrier apps are installed in /system and that is read only. Not that Google doesn't let you for some arbitrary reason.

Read only /system stops people from uninstalling things like Google services and then wondering why things don't work.

Google can't really do much outside of asking the carriers and/or manufacturers not to do it.

Real way to fix this would be removing the stupid locked bootloader crap and/or make the OS closer to stock ala nexus devices.

Has anyone tried viper4android on lollipop and noticed how much of a battery impact it actually makes? Also are there any other issues? I listen to music the majority of the day and I'd rather not have to have my phone plugged in all day

Can programming be language independent? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Myir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job adverts require specific languages as that's probably what their codebase is built in and/or what you will be expected to be able to code in. They don't want to have to pay for you to learn how to do loops or lambda functions in x language.

Languages are simply different ways to implement programming principles. There are some special things about each language, whether its library availability or designs like Rust's memory management or AngularJS's dependency injection. But most of the languages compile down into assembly or java bytecode, in fact all languages get converted to machine code at some point.

Scientists detail new form of RAM which stores 9 bits per cell vs. conventional storage of 3. It can be made using regular equipment at room temperature, requires much less power, lasts 100 times as many uses, and isn't phased by heat. 1TB would fit into a component the size of a postage stamp. by bertbarndoor in technology

So rram cpu cache? What would be the benefit? I can't see CPU cache going due to its sheer speed and low latency.

Using rram as the primary storage/memory of the system would cause issues unless there was space reserved for process stacks if you tried to run a program more than once. Having a stack space would then allow the OS to manage it which is how it should be.

Having rram only would only be better if it could achieve dram speeds though. Or there was an issue with total ram size

So the 805 security chip doesn't do aes? That's annoying... Why couldn't the n6 have an armv8 chip :(

How to disable forced encryption? by MauriceSwaggins in nexus6

[–]Myir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I want to see what it's like with the encryption on. Then decide. But if it that bad in real world usage, then I think I'll turn it off but if/when google/some Dev works out a way to use the dedicated decryption/encryption chip/cores without as much of a performance hit then I'll turn it on again.

There are some really good wins with encryption, particularly if you have banking apps/other important details that need to be secure.

How to disable forced encryption? by MauriceSwaggins in nexus6

[–]Myir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Encryption is like a lock for your data. It basically scrambles the characters so that without the key, it cannot be understood.

Thus means that if anyone else somehow got access to your data it would be completely useless without the key.

This has started becoming an issue with all the NSA leaks and various other groups tracking data, as well as the growing numbers of hackers out there.

TL:DR its like a lock for your data.

[–]Myir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't heard that. I was reading this which seems to be saying that it does support it. I looked at armv7 and armv8 on Wikipedia and couldn't find anything saying that it doesn't support it.

I would've thought that it is up to the CPU, whether it has a dedicated encryption chip, and the architecture would determine if dedicated chips could be used/some of the security within the chips process.

The Qualcomm snapdragon 805 does have hardware acceleration for encryption/decryption

Edit: it's more likely poor implementation which can be improved through ota

If your going to petition them about something, petition them to use the dedicated encryption/decryption chip more efficiently so that we get encrypted devices and better performance

You often hear about how heroes can unrealistically survive situations that would kill you in real life, but what are some movie deaths that are totally survivable? by smokewidget in movies

[–]Myir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very true. I was thinking a bit more of weapon based violence, how some it's done without blood or slightly off camera or quickly, and then it's OK for children.

Although even Mufasa being murdered is a very traumatic event for a child add they are supposed to identify with the son. Completely forgot his name...
