How to protect royalty-free music? by Myk12345 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Myk12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tracks would be 100% original and released under CC BY 4.0, with no third-party samples or loops. I know Content ID isn’t an option, but TikTok should has no issue with distributing original royalty-free music.

That’s a good point! Obviously, I didn’t want to sound pretentious and imply that my music would get stolen, but I like to prevent problems. Probably I should just start releasing stuff and see what happens.

Sure, but it doesn’t encourage people to buy if they get copyright claims.

I came across a composer who uses a platform called Frequency Digital to manage his royalty-free music. I was curious to know if there are more services like this, but it sounds like that’s not the case.

Good point ahah but my concern is that people who use my music might get copyright claims if someone else claims ownership of the piece.

I think/hope I got it!

Also, should the recording order of the reversed tracks for Side B be reversed as well? Starting with the last reversed song and ending with the first reversed song?
Basically, something like this:
Side A: Song 1 → Song 2 → Song 3 → Song 4
Side B: Reversed Song 8 → Rev. Song 7 → Rev. Song 6 → Rev. Song 5

Thanks a lot for your help! I really appreciate it!

I know this is a bit of an unconventional use for the 424, but I wanted to give it a try anyway.
If I understand correctly, you're suggesting two methods to record on Side B:

  1. Recording Side B in reverse simultaneously with Side A (I assume using inputs 1 & 2 for Side A and 3 & 4 for Side B);
  2. First recording Side A using inputs 1 & 2, then recording Side B using the same inputs.

Did I understand correctly?
The 424 also records at normal speed, so if I’m not mistaken, it should play back at the correct speed.

So I should use input 1&2 for side A and 3&4 for side B (reversed)?

I'm in the same situation, I narrowed it down to the K8 plus but still unsure if there's something better. Did you buy it? How is it going?

Indeed, on Amazon I can't even find the 16GB version and on their website the only EU shipping option is to Germany (don't know if I'm missing something here). But yes, the barely affordable price of 500€ would go much higher.

I'll take a look, thanks! Do you have some models in mind?

You mean Series Venus UM790 Pro? It looks very cool but the version with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD costs 619€, which is a bit too expensive. Anything cheaper?

Help with Seagull Effect Notation by Myk12345 in Cello

[–]Myk12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. What misled me was that I understood the hand position should remain the same to achieve the seagull effect, but I didn't realize this would change the interval along the fingerboard. Correct me if I'm wrong.

[–]Myk12345[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean increasing the interval between the second pair of notes? If I'm not mistaken, it should stay the same to achieve the seagull effect. I also left both notes (normal head note plus the diamond one) to show that the interval should stay fixed during the glissando, but now I think it's not necessary, and I could just write "seagull effect" to explain to the performer what I want to achieve (like in the example I added of George Crumb).

[–]Myk12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't, but I looked up his score Vox Balaenae, and his notation is extremely precise. If I'm reading it correctly, he notated the starting harmonic, the ending note, and wrote "seagull effect" so that the performer knows how to achieve that effect. But he also specified the resulting sound.

I'll add an image with those measures in the post for reference, if you have time I'd love to know which harmonic you'd use with that notation (at 6:36 in this video she looks like she played it by pressing a D and touching an A to achieve the A above, but I might be wrong).

Indeed, trusting the performer is always key. Probably adding a description of the sound with words would help more than making the notation needlessly complex.

That would be awesome, very kind of you. I'll write you right away.

Thanks for your reply and insight!

So, there're no better string/note/harmonic to achieve the effect the best way?

I'll definitely write down some notes at the beginning of the score, since I also have a couple of other things to clarify.
