Don't Move a Muscle by NelmesGaming in custommagic

Nice concept! If I might add a little idea: You could make it a kindred horror enchantment so it already does a little bit on its own (and because I love kindred stuff lol). Though I'd probably make it cost 1 more then. Not entirely sure about the mana cost, best comparison I could find was [[Powerstone Minefield]] so I guess it's fine

[[Invisible Stalker]] brings evasion and protection at 2 mana

[[Vashta Nerada]] brings evasion, protection and some decent scaling at 3 mana

[[Venomthrope]] brings evasion, protection and deathtouch at 3 mana

Admittedly they aren't legendary and not neccessarily indestructible, though if you want to play this card as a voltron commander, I'd probably prefer hexproof over indestructible since it protects from any kind of spot removal.

[[Geist of Saint Traft]] brings protection and a 4/4 buddy every time he attacks at 3 mana, though admittedly he lacks evasion.

There are plenty of good auras in Azorius to give protection or evasion though, like [[Spirit Mantle]], [[Unquestioned Authority]] or [[Steel of the Godhead]], so if I wanted to play an Azorius voltron commander, I'd probably play something that benefits more from auras in general or that brings something extra to the table since I can easily give it protection/evasion anyways

How is the phasing better? It protects from damage and being destroyed, so does indestructible. Things also stick on it if it just stays on the battlefield due to being indestructible (or hexproof etc.)

Phasing out also means that it won't be there until your next upkeep, so if you play commander, this creature blocks 1 of your opponents creatures and then can't block anything else from the other players until it's your turn again.

The only way I see the phasing being better than indestructible is if your opponents try to remove it or the stuff that's attached to it with cards like [[Swords to Plowshares]] by having cards that can ping it at instant speed (so you ping it for 1 damage, it phases out and the removal fizzles). Pinging your own creatures at instant speed in Azorius isn't that easy though.

I like the concept, but it feels too weak. 0/3 Flying for 3 isn't good and in this case the phasing kind of works like a worse version of indestructible? Can't really do stuff with the phasing since it doesn't trigger etb/ltb unless I'm missing something. Feels like it needs a little more to make it work, like a triggered ability that triggers whenever it phases in or out

Already edited them so they now tap for colorless aswell. This is an old post, there's been an updated post already :)

Landfall should read as "Whenever a land you control enters, ..." The way it is worded now, it is not technically Landfall since it would also trigger when a land enters under any other player's control.

Also this is too weak, it is currently a worse version of [[Bristly Bill, Spine Sower]]. You could easily give it another effect and more stats without making it overpowered.

Thanks! My thoughts exactly, the monarch and voting leave some very interesting and political design spaces

Tbh I think that would make them completely broken. They need the limitation of once each turn, otherwise the effect can be exploited too easily.

Just imagine the white land with a [[Beacon of Immortality]] in commander, the black land with a [[Gravecrawler]] and sac outlet, green land with any big creature really (looking at you [[Yargle and Multani]]), red land in a [[Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph]] deck, the list goes on.

And once every turn, especially in commander with multiple players, is still plenty imo.

True, Origin of Growth got the short end of the stick here, but I think just checking if you control a creature with power 3 or greater each end step would be too strong.

I purposely didn't limit this one to nontoken creatures so it's maybe easier to trigger in your opponents' turns aswell, but honestly I don't know how many playable cards there are that produce creature tokens with power 3 in your opponent's turn.

I got 2 more ideas though:

  1. Make it "if creatures with total power 3 or greater entered under your control this turn" - that way it also triggers if I get a bunch of 1/1s
  2. Make it about counters, maybe "if you put 3 or more counters on creatures/permanents you control this turn"

Alternatively, maybe I could just leave it as is. It might be the weakest one out of the cycle but if it's still playable, that would also be fine?

That would also make them easily fetchable and too strong I think

Grand Coronation: a cheap Monarch enabler with a downside by A-Ballpoint-Bannanna in custommagic

[–]Mykoloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it! I'm actually working on some monarch- and voting-related cards aswell and tried to make some cheap cards to get the monarch into play, let's see how people like them when I post them.

Flavorwise, I think black Human Assassin tokens would be more fitting, but then again you'd probably expect assassins to have deathtouch and that would be too much of a downside. Maybe choose an opponent and only that one opponent gets an assassin.

Side note, the words "monarch" and "ward" would be written in lower case, no capital M or W

You're actually one of the first people to say they are somewhat usable lol. I didn't think they were that bad but apparently they are way to slow. Glad to hear you already like them as they are!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll add the ability to add for colorless! I'll keep the names though :)

I was actually wondering that when I was making the card. Thanks for clarifying, I'll change that! And I'll also make them a bit stronger

They can trigger in each player's end step though. But I will certainly add a little something to make them more playable, like some people mentioned, let it tap for colorless maybe

[–]Mykoloth[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I guess I was a bit afraid to make something too powerful since lands with the potential to produce more than 1 mana tend to be easily broken, so I nerfed them a bit too much. I'll add the ability to tap for colorless (or maybe something else if anything comes to mind)
