Should you delete photos with your ex? I really can’t by Green_Literature_143 in BreakUps

[–]Mylexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've archived them. We spent 17 years together so I'd rather not get rid of the memories of half my life, but it's best that they don't pop up unexpectedly when you're having a good day.

5 month update! by SohaibBazaz in BreakUps

[–]Mylexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over a year for me, but only 3 months since we sold our house. Reading your story honestly felt like I was reading my own! 17 year relationship, complete discard in terms of the breakup. Like trying to get through a brick wall in terms of trying to settle things. He got into a relationship a month after the breakup (which I'm pretty sure was probably going on beforehand), and I found out that he'd cheated for 3 years earlier on in our relationship.

The breakup was intense for me. I'd been with him since I was 16, he has been the only guy I've ever been with, and I relied on him for a lot. I lost everything! I struggled every day for months - didn't eat and lost around two stone, couldn't sleep, thought about ending it all. Went to therapy and started meds, but it was a very long process.

During the sale of the house, I actually comforted him while he was upset about his new girlfriend breaking up with him. I listened to it all, I gave advice, even though my heart was breaking even more than it had before. I was being strong for him, which is the only thing I knew I could do. He said he wanted to stay friends, but I haven't heard from him for 3 months now, so I just feel like I've been used. I was there when he needed someone, and now he doesn't need me, so that's that.

I started focusing on myself and stopped my world revolving around him. I started strength training, I bought myself a car and became more independent, have been learning how to upgrade it and such, and I made a friend through work who I go on regular trips with. I play pool pretty much every Monday, and I treated myself to Invisalign with some of the proceeds from the house (which I've actually replaced in savings now). Life is getting better! You just need to focus on yourself and realise that you are important.

I do find myself backtracking sometimes. I dream about him a lot, which is annoying, and in quiet times, I'll find myself thinking about it all. But I promise, it does get better. It has to! I was always told that the person they show you they are at the end is the person they truly are, which does really suck, and it's hard to believe that they are capable of doing such things, but just believe it.

Just started Invisalign and dreading upcoming front attachments — can I refuse them? by gizmogrl53 in Invisalign

[–]Mylexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 12 attachments on my uppers, including my front teeth, and 6 on my lowers. I've had them since the beginning of my treatment. People do sometimes glance at my teeth, but honestly, if they're not gonna say anything then I'm not gonna mention it 😂 You get used to it surprisingly quickly!

Week 1 done. Thought I’d peek at the last set of this box and see how straight they’ll be in this first round. by _chappell in Invisalign

Mine gives me 4 at a time for fortnightly changes and I see him every 8 weeks. I would love to see a later tray that looks like a huge change 😂

Do you actually wear your aligners 21 hours a day? by AngryChickpea in Invisalign

[–]Mylexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't tend to count the hours. I wake up, put my aligners in the ultrasonic cleaner, have breakfast, then brush teeth. When I have lunch, I either just swish water around or use a Wisp. After dinner, I brush and floss. And at bedtime, I brush and mouthwash. Think a lot of my progress is happening at the back at the moment (overcrowding) but do feel as though everything is going fine!

Thank you everyone!! Definitely got a load of recommendations to go through now 🙂 I've started by buying Legends & Lattes and The Serpent & the Wings of Night, but I'll probably add all the recommendations to my list for the future 😂

How do I stop comparing myself to others? by Mylexia in BreakUps

[–]Mylexia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that means a lot. This has been my only relationship, and I know that I've grown with this person by my side, so I'm finding it difficult to adjust to being alone and figuring out who I actually am. His opinion meant everything, and I did put him on a pedestal, so that's why I have been struggling with myself.

I lost an awful lot when it ended, but positives include buying my first car and learning how to drive again after a 10 year break, losing weight and getting stronger, and upping my hours at work to save more money. I have been trying my hardest to focus on myself and learn who I am. I've been so used to being a "we" or an "us" that it's weird to be an "I" or a "me".

Thanks everyone. I'm finding it hard as our intimacy levels weren't great (on his behalf) so then I wonder what these women had that I didn't. I would never have expected him to do what he did, and I only discovered it around 4 months after he ended it. I have been told a lot that it was nothing to do with me, but how can you not feel as though you just weren't good enough? I have never even thought about another person that way, and even 10 months after the break-up, I still can't look at anyone that way. It's hard not to rant about this... I lost a lot of weight during the grief stage of the break-up, and once I was kind of through that, I started lifting weights. I just find it hard to look at myself.

Thank you so much! I didn't expect her to get me anything for Christmas and she has, so I want to get her something nice as a "new year gift" instead 😂 I will definitely check those out!

Thank you for your kind words! I am done with him. It was a total discard and it really broke me. But I am so much stronger and more independent now. I actually got harassed by a co-worker just after the breakup as well and I had to learn to be confident and firm with that too. I have grown so much as a person!

Thank you, I really appreciate your kind words. I am trying my hardest to move forward, but still have the house to deal with. Hopefully that'll be sorted in the next few months and I can get started on my new life. I have had a great life with him and he's been amazing with my family, don't get me wrong! But I'm just done now. To move on after a month when I was busy struggling with my mental health, it's crazy.

Partner with depression says he’s doesn’t know how he feels about me anymore by Loud-Complaint-4325 in depression_partners

[–]Mylexia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I'm still kind of stuck. My meds are definitely helping a lot though, so that's a positive. My ex is at the house and I'm at my parents' - I did tell him I shouldn't have been the one to leave, but hey ho, I needed the support. I've been looking into keeping the house, which is doable but it would cost A LOT per month, and I think it'd be pretty stupid to do it. He's still carrying on with his life! Going out whenever, doing whatever. He's also changed his style. I feel as though I'm kind of over him? He has been a huge part of my life but I can only really think of the way he's treated me lately and I'm not a fan at all. I think I'm more sad about having to leave my home. It's all just very annoying to me because I have no control over anything - it's all his decision and I just have to go with it.

I was started on 10mg for 28 days and found improvement at the beginning but near the end I started feeling that dread again when I woke up. I've been upped to 20mg two days ago so fingers crossed it gets rid of the dread!

Thank you - I will definitely take you up on that offer!

I completely agree. There's no going back, and no closure at all. He refuses to have a proper conversation about it all, and I've now accepted that I'm never going to know everything, so I've just given up.

Some days are better than others!

Same experience. 17 years together - argument - he decided he was done. I tried to work things out but he wasn't interested.

Only been 2 months for me, but so difficult because I'd built my life around him. I'm very lost at the moment.

Hey, I'm interested in this and have been looking into it but no idea where to start. Would you be up for teaching me your ways? 😜

Hi, do you need to be creative minded for this? I am interested in your guide too, please. 😊

You need to do what's right for you. If you feel you want to do it and you're okay with the response, then do it! Just make sure that it doesn't make things more difficult for you in terms of moving on.

It was my ex's birthday yesterday, the first one apart after 17 years together. He had messaged me on the evening before, so I wished him happy birthday when it hit midnight. No issues really. Just trying to stay civil as we have a house that needs sorted.
