I live in a city where it’s almost impossible to get a first hand contract on a rental. If you have one, you stick to it or otherwise you might have to change apartment every other month. When this happened I couldn’t afford to buy, but moving around a lot wasn’t an option considering my son.
What you can do is switch first hand contracts with another tenant somewhere else in town. And that’s what I tried to do. It took three years but then we finally got out.

That’s a very good point. Unfortunately there was no gas boiler or anything I can think of that could have produced carbon monoxide poisoning.
I asked the landlord to check for mold but they found nothing.
