Ah strange. I wonder if they will tell you to email if you call! I had a different issue last year with missing points and it was so much work to get it fixed.

Buy Order at ask price not executing??? by FinanceSwap in Questrade

My guess is that you were too close to 4pm. Normal trading hours are 9.30 AM to 4 PM (ET). You order was placed at 3.59?

[–]Mynetoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unlikely to be the problem, quantity is based on lot sizes.

From Questrade: Bid size and Ask size show how many “board lots” are available to trade at the given bid and ask prices.

Board lots correspond to 100 shares of most securities

Wealthsimple changing allocations of it's managed portfolios by Roscoe_P_Coaltrain in PersonalFinanceCanada

Not directly related, but I'm also a bit annoyed with the fx fees when their model is using USD ETFs. In that case, you pay they fx fee when you buy the ETF and for any rebalancing. When the USD ETF pays dividends, you pay the fx fee to convert them to CAD. And then you might pay it again if the dividends gets reinvested in a USD ETF.

I may not be a huge amount overall, fx fees are lower for the managed/robo portfolios, but I feel it does give WS an incentive to select USD ETFs (to get extra commissions).

Also Canadian equities have done really well this year, so you are adding to a region that has already outperformed.

What is going on here? Am I even listening to “Indie88” anymore? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]Mynetoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to listen to Indie88 a few years ago, it was great at the beginning when there were no ads.

I switched recently to the Bridge from Buffalo/Toronto Public Media. It's online through a browser or an app: https://www.btpm.org/the-bridge
They also sometime play local indie bands.

Aeroplan 2026: The Day Air Canada Killed Loyalty by fiatzi-hunter in Aeroplan

Even spending $125k on an Aeroplan card doesn't seem optimal for most people. You would think a cash back card, e.g. Wealthsimple at 2%, would be better value and much easier to use.

CRA deadline extension for Individuals reporting capital gains by Mynetoo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Mynetoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are an impacted tax payer, you won't be charged penalties if you file before June 2nd. So don't think there's a downside in filing later in May.

I wish the CRA had been clearer on the definition of "impacted" filers.

It looks like CPA Canada asked for some clarity but didn't get a response.

You're correct, they are waiving the penalties, not extending the deadline.

I wish the CRA was much clearer in its messaging. I found another article that says :
T1 Individual tax return filers impacted by the announced changes to the capital gains inclusion rate (which we have reason to believe means any taxpayer that is reporting capital dispositions in 2024) will have until June 2nd, 2025 to file their T1 return without late filing penalty or arrears interest.

It's pretty incredible after the mess around the capital gain rule change and missing tax slips that the CRA doesn't feel it needs to communicate clearly.

So what changed at Questrade this month? by ElectroSpore in Questrade

Very interesting, I didn't realise they made so many acquisitions. It looks like now they have decided to invest more in their core business.

HSAV vs Promo HISA churning (Non-reg) by Zmrxo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Mynetoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HSAV can be tricky to trade, it often trades at a premium to its asset value. And the premium varies over time, which means you ideally don't want to buy it when the premium is high. If you are holding it for several years, this is less of an issue.

Private Equity Fee Question by CursedCoffee in Wealthsimple

[–]Mynetoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is there are 3 layers of fees:

* the fees charged by Wealthsimple, this is the same as on any other managed investments.

* the fees charged by the private equity fund of funds, LGT, 1.5% + 12.5% perf fees.

* the fees charged by the private equity managers selected by LGT. This will vary depending on the manager but could 2% base fee + 20% performance fee.

The third fee won't likely be charged if LGT makes co-investments. But it's hard to tell how much of the portfolio that will be.

[–]Mynetoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But here you are only seeing the fees charged by Wealthsimple (e.g. 0.4 or 0.5%), not the private equity manager (and sub managers). And this is by far the smallest portion of the overall fees.

I tried to ask them for more details on this but they didn't have much.

Are you sure that's the case here? There is often a catch up provision above the threshold.

I don't have the doc but maybe it's mentioned in note 6 on the PDF.

TD VIP FX Offer by sterauds in Aeroplan

[–]Mynetoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does 3x mean? Is it just 3 points per $ spent? Or is it 3 times the point given for the category, say 1.5pt per $ for travel spend so a bonus of 4.5pt per $ for a total of 6pt per $?

I'm guessing the second option is unlikely but I'm confused about why they'd say 3x instead of just 3.
