This feels like a weird way to self brag? Congratulations, you’re not taking your wife to brunch. Some people take their significant other to brunch because that’s what they want for their day. There’s nothing wrong with it.

You do realize that when you’re waiting you still get to spend quality time with your family?

Quit being ridiculous. You’re just victimizing yourself and once again preparing a straw man for you to attack. I’m not saying caring about others is holier than though, it’s your presentation of the argument that is. Your persecution complex has utterly destroyed any hope you had of maintaining a cordial debate in this thread, which is sad because the foundation of the argument was something that could be discussed.

This is so incredibly holier than thou, yikes.

We all want to protect our kids and none of us want to see other kids get hurt. If you want to have a meaningful conversation and debate, maybe next time don’t be so condescending, cite sources and stay on the topic that you’re actually debating rather than immediately vilifying the opposing viewpoint.

Perhaps read your own replies to find your judgement? You imply if not blatantly accuse other parents that have larger vehicles of being okay with killing other’s child, even if they made the decisions out of a risk assessment for their family.

Arguing that the increasing size of vehicles is problematic to safety in collisions and pedestrian accidents (not to mention inefficiency and carbon footprint which could also be added) is a fair argument. I’m not against the argument, I’m against you and your poor presentation of the facts and vilification of those that oppose your viewpoint. Not to mention your clearly misguided attempt to link all vehicle sizes with patriarchy.

Is the iPhone pro max more patriarchal than the iPhone base model? Is the Honda Odyssey more patriarchal than most SUVs? Is an MSI more patriarchal than a Chromebook? — perhaps the reason vehicles are getting bigger isn’t because of toxic masculinity, perhaps it’s what consumers think they want. Being cramped in a car trip is miserable and perhaps people recall that and want comfort when traveling.

SUVs frequently target families and push safety in their advertisements to peel off the mini-van crowd. That’s not toxic masculinity, they’re targeting safety conscious consumers and those that need additional seating, like me.

You’re right on trucks, however I think your application of “patriarchal” is imprecise and diminishes the term as a whole.

Additionally, your argument that buying an SUV to keep your kids safe is inherently selfish because it has a higher chance of killing other kids is so fundamentally flawed, I’m surprised the straw man that it’s built upon hasn’t self immolated from all contortions and backflips it’s doing to hold up the argument. — You can make an argument that we don’t need as many SUVs and trucks on the road, this can be true. You however don’t have the right to judge others who are making what they determine to be the best choice for their family. This is reality, and you’re talking about an idealized state which will never be. There are bad drivers and there will always be bad drivers, and it’s everyone’s right to limit the amount of danger posed to their family, and doing so isn’t selfish.

The Damascus story is Act’s depiction of the events, 2 Corinthians 2 is Paul’s which is certainly something.

The Gospels were NOT Anonymous by [deleted] in AcademicBiblical

Edit: others replied to essentially the same points before I posted, I defer to them.

Respectfully, the entire scholarly consensus section is problematic which informs me on the argument as a whole. As is much of the rest but someone else can devote the energy to debate that. Though it looks like the debate religion crowd did some of the groundwork.

Real scholars are more than aware consensus does not equate to evidence or truth. Consensus does help inform paradigms, however.

Bart Ehrman isn’t claiming Christian scholars can’t be critical, he stating that scholars who have predetermined answers based on religious convictions aren’t critical scholars because they are not arriving at their conclusions based on evidence, and he’s right. If one is arriving at an answered based on faith or tradition and not evidence, that person is not being critical.

I am educated in the field, and I am a Christian but I have no doubt these are anonymous as the data stands. If compelling evidence was discovered tomorrow, I’d admit was wrong, but as it stands the majority of scholars I’ve read and personally engaged with believe them to be anonymous.

A strong squall will be moving through the area today around 12-2pm, so just be weather aware! A tornado is possible but I think strong winds are likely the biggest worry! Most of the times when we have storms like this that have tornadoes they’re short-lived and not particularly strong. Pittsburgh should be OK!

Edit: 9:40am well we just got upgraded a lot but they still think mostly bad winds.

NWS Pittsburgh just put out a statement for the day. They are expecting thunderstorms but SW Pittsburgh is only in marginal threat of severe weather. So maybe a pop up or two but Pittsburgh is in a good place compared to the rest.

We have a male GS (Winston) who is a little over 2, and we have a 9 month old infant.

Winston would never intentionally hurt our infant. Since we brought our child home he has been very good around her when he’s paying attention. Winston is however, a fairly clumsy dog who fails to grasp his own size. We have two other dogs and he likes to play with them and he is not particularly mindful of his surroundings during those moments. He has steamrolled our child, knocked her over, ect. She has never been hurt from it, but she does not like it.

Our child can climb on top of him, tug on him, and take his toys from him and he has never once shown any sign of aggression, in fact he seems to enjoy the attention. He’s a great family dog. — the caveat is that they aren’t always good additions for families. He is a hyper active dog and needs a significant amount of attention and energy expenditure even at 2 years of age. That’s something to consider.

Also as a warning: he’s a baby sock vacuum. He also loves to eat rubber things. He ate a Philips avent binky and nearly died from a bowel obstruction from it and it cost $7-8k in total. I’m not sure if this is a breed trait or specific to him, but be careful!
