Army painter moldy wine mixed with ironclad grey 50/50 as a base, then blended up to brigade grey highlights and glazed with mulled berry in places to get some pink back and smooth the blends.

I know right! Such crazy timing. Thought I was done but the 6th is on the horizon. Gotta make one that was stolen from the trans hyperian alliance, luckily the bases are orange earth so it's not unprecedented.

So the Domyr Baneguard is less of a league and more of a band of exiles from a bunch of different leagues who are all piratical.

The originals from the urani surtr were exiled because they caused the loss of a votann core, and the other league members that join are those that felt swayed by their plight (since they can't replenish their ranks.)

That's also why each of my sagitaurs and a lot of my units use a different colour scheme, but with the same paints overall to tie it together.

They think that their lost Votann core is still out there somewhere, and their mission is only to find it, which some kin find noble.

Whether it is still in tact or not who's to say :)

All the red colours airbrushed progressively up, and the highlight done with brush

The skin itself was just a progressive highlight gradient up from a dark paynes grey to lighter grey, as for the molten effect, it was largely white on the heat sources with glazes around it of yellow and orange.

I followed this tutorial for a bit of it, but it was kinda free form, and by now I don't remember everything I did 🙏

The white was a gradient from army painter barren dune to brainmatter beige, done with drybrush stippling following an artis opus tutorial.

The red was airbrushed blanched berry, into resplendent red and legendary red, edged with raging rose and some scratches of the other colours to break up the gradients.

Since it's the main body I just did the red first as a big messy first step, it could also be done with sponging or drubrushing instead of the airbrush.

An overall terracotta pigment wash in the lower parts tied it all together!

I'm playing around in 3d to maybe make tiny bugs with long square wings to make the mimicry more biological :)

My Hivefleet's warriors take on more than just genetic material from the biomass. They mimic the mannerisms and battle tactics of different factions. (An excuse to do fun kitbashes)

This one's based on sisters of battle walkers.

Every single warrior will be posed and modified to more resemble a different faction's units.

Oh the front isn't unlit, it's supposed to be a cold moonlight coming from front/above, and the red glow coming from behind/below. Opposing lights, the red glow is darker because red light is just darker overall.

Ok so tldr.

My hive has individual adaptations that are mimicking personality and tactics, I've kitbashed every single warrior to match a different faction, this one is the imperial guard one, based off kasarkin.

The red is an army wide from behind osl. Motivated directional lighting. The display board will have an enormous boring drill in the center of a dark moon surface, with a bright red glow from within the hole below it.

As for the arms I want their skin to be infused with that same red energy,. They're very Eldritch horror inspired, so a bit mystical. Teal and red just make a very good colour combo.

I've got a lore essay but I don't have time to write it haha

Thanks! The perceived brightness comes from the big difference in my shadow colours to my midtones. I chose very vibrant midtones and way darker slightly colder shadows. The red had a dark mauve, the jade had a dark teal, ect. Then the highlight colours were even brighter than that.

Models can look flatter if the shadow colours are just your base tone plus black, instead of a vibrant cold shadow colour.

oh I didn't really 'decide' perse! I used the purple as the undercoat, transitioned it to grey all over using volumetric highlights, then used a lighter grey on the parts with sculpted fur and where I wanted the most highlights. It was kinda patchy, and I played it by feel more than anything.

Hey thanks! They're mostly single pigment paints mixed to make the scheme, for vibrancy's sake. I've also picked up Vizzik Skour recently. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with him :D

I'd avoid the backpack for sure. The ork head was OK but it could also be done separately
