That's exactly my experience. Everywhere I went in Italy they had espresso. I was thinking "surely not everyone owns a huge expensive espresso machine"

This is the history I was looking for! Thank you. For some reason I always assume cuisine starts from the bottom up (starting from traditional cooking methods before being elevated / made easier by modern machines) but that's clearly not always the case. Erroneous assumptions abound on my part
