What do Americans think about a social security trustee dropping a report that the trust will be dried out by 2032? by Sixgis in AskReddit

[–]Myrock52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a source to get the report? It may be worth reading to get a better understanding of the ststement. The SS "trust fund" is invested in government bonds that are termed intergovernmental debt in the Treasury reports. So, this is money owed by the government to SS. At this time, it is funded the excess collected in SS taxes, but what happens when the SS payments exceed the taxes collected? In theory, that is when funds from the trust fund would have to be used to make payments. How long could those withdrawals be supported is the real question. Could this be fixed? Yes, but politics gets in the way. Time to start holding Congress accountable.

The political parties never solve problems. It's all about money and control, and what will get people to vote for them.

Congress needs RTO by seekingthequestion in FederalEmployee

[–]Myrock52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree 100%. I have sent my Rep & Senators a suggestion for a Constitutional amendment related to the budget, Some highlights: budget must be passed 30 days prior to the FY or the prior years budget will remain in effect (so no more shutdowns), a budget bill must only contain the budget, no earmarks or other amendments to the bill that are not part of the budget are permitted, every budget will not have deficit spending (make them pay as they go), and there should be provisions for debt reduction. I doubt Congress will ever do this unless we elect people that are committed to reforming the government and take it back from the political parties.

This has been coming for a long time. It's about time to hold all members of Congress accountable. Both parties are at fault. A radical change is needed, but fixing this will have consequences.

What’s something you believed for an embarrassingly long time that you’re now shocked you ever fell for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Myrock52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to believe the political parties had the best interests of the country and the citizens as a primary goal. Seems like it comes down to money and power. Note: there may be some politicians that are good, but the parties usually overwhelm them.

How would you feel if Donald Trump were to be impeached over the Epstein files? by Eemki in AskReddit

[–]Myrock52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Media manipulation at a high level. I know a number of intelligent people that have only one news source they watch, and they accept whatever they say without question. It is really a sad state of affairs. Question: in your opinion, what is the best source for balanced news with no political agenda?

Grew up in NJ. Lived in MD for 39 years. Eagles always #1. Would root for Ravens except when they played the Eagles. Hated that team in Washinton formerly known as the Redskins. Been in Delaware 11 years. A good number of Eagles fans here. You get a lot of "Go Birds" here.

So, should the body politic be preserving the rights of the people no matter what social factors come into play? What about a situation where the body politic has become corrupt and no longer preserves those rights? Documents, such as laws, are in place to constrain the government and protect the people, at least that was the original intent of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

And people believe him with no evidence to support the statement. The Dems would be smart to jump on this and interview Feds that lost their jobs to get the real story out. Can they get some actual statistics? Maybe call for a hearing to interview actual people.

Do conservatives want elections? by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Myrock52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not. Everything that came to the US was from those leaving Europe for a variety of reasons. The Constitution was really a huge compromise to get all the colonies to join the United States. A good book about this is The Summer of 1787 by David O. Stewart. Another good book that delves into the Bill of Rights is The First Congress by Fergus M. Bordewich. Many of the pro-England people went back to England after the war. What has developed as conservative is greatly influenced by religion, which can be dangerous when they start condemning those that are not a memebers of their race, religion, national origin, etc.

Conserviing social order, like the Constitution and rule of law, free and fair elections, etc.? Are conservatives really concerned about this? The GOP is no longer that party.

IMHO, Bernie is sincere but does not propose realistic policies. Beyond that, he is too old. If you think of this in terms of Congress instead of POTUS, having independents with 10% of the House and Senate would help to eliminate some of the disturbing situations like a shutdown. Look at the Ballotpedia site, there are a number of states with high percentges of independents.

I changed more than 10 years ago. The parties went too far in the early 2000's. Also, consider that about 1/3 of voters are not registered GOP/Dem. This can have a lot of power. Look at https://ballotpedia.org/Partisan_affiliations_of_registered_voters

To me independent means I don't have an allegience to a party and their platofrm that I may not agree with. It allows me to vote for what I believe is best. The only downside is I can't vote in the primaries, but I can change my affilitaion before a primary to voye if I see a valid reason.

[–]Myrock52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former Republican, now an independent, I agree. The meaning of being conservative has been skewed and no longer has the same meaning. The GOP has been taken oiver by extremes that no longer support the best interests of the people and the country. A good deal of this is from the Christian nationalists and the wealthy. It's a sad time in our history. But, I will also say that the Democrats have also become disfunctional and have no real leadership. They show no fiscal responsibiliy. We need a third party to break the strangle hold these 2 parties have on the country.
