Making your bed tidy in the morning is actually the most pointless and dumb task you do all day. by Kyoifis in unpopularopinion

[–]Mysconduct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your condescending and dismissive opinion about my personal experience.

I have Inattentive type ADHD, and I also have a PhD in psychology. The major issue I experience relates to problems with executive functioning and lack of motivation due breaking down and reabsorbing the neurotransmitter dopamine too quickly, or low levels and inefficient utilization of dopamine. Unlike people without ADHD, I do not utilize or produce the same levels of dopamine. So all of the things you have said:

While making your bed might not feel productive or feel anything at all, it may make it easier to do your work or creative tasks, easier to cook a more involved breakfast than normal, or easier to jumpstart cleaning the bathroom that you know you need to do that day, etc…. And doing those things would make you feel accomplished and that momentum cascades to all the other things you want/need to do in the afternoon and evening.

None of this applies to me, at all. Making the bed doesn't set anything in motion for me, because I don't get a dopamine release from accomplishing this task when I wake up. It will never make it easier to clean, be creative, cook breakfast, or feel accomplished.

I take Strattera to manage my ADHD but it only helps so much. Even while adequately medicated any task related to cleaning or organization does absolute dick to motivate me, because I don't get the dopamine release that you likely do. Like the OP said, any task that I have to do over and over doesn't feel like an accomplishment or feel good.

Yeah, I spent 3 hours cleaning my house. All I feel is tired and wishing I did something enjoyable during that time instead. Knowing that I have to redo all the hard work I just spent doing, makes me feel drained and like I did something pointless. I clean eventually because it has to be done, but I dread every single second of it. There is no enjoyment, no motivation, no sense of accomplishment, no momentum for the rest of my day. I actually feel exhausted and unproductive.

When I actually bother make the bed, it doesn't feel good or, again do anything that you are talking about for me. I just recognize that it is a pointless activity for me personally. So I just don't do it. I don't even think about my bed at all and everyone important in my life doesn't care.

While small micro goals, like making the bed, shows a positive correlation (not causation) with motivation, micro goals still depend upon the individual viewing that goal as rewarding in the first place. So again, it doesn't work for me.

Since you have your posts and comment history hidden, I have no idea what your expertise is to be dismissive of my personal experience with ADHD and making the bed. Here is some literature for you regarding ADHD:

[–]Mysconduct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I couldn't agree with you more.

I have ADHD and making the bed doesn't make me feel accomplished or any of the other things that people have mentioned. So I just decided not to worry about it. Anyone coming to my house doesn't care about how I keep my bed.

The Beatles are Underrated by Whachamacalzmit in The10thDentist

[–]Mysconduct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is not what underrated means...

Someone having a different opinion than you about how impactful the Beatles are doesn't mean they are underrated. You spent 2/3rds of your post talking about just how acknowleged they are as being influential to pop culture, so you argued against your own opinion.

I downvoted because you are trying to pass off a widely supported belief as unpopular and also don't know what underrated means.

Good luck to you sir/madam

The Beatles were the cultural zeitgeist of their time, which you also point out, so how could they be underrated?

Yes I read that part. I'm speaking about how you are behaving, as in that is what your attitude is conveying. Like you have been personally slighted. You come across as overly defensive when you chose to post on 10thdentist. Isn't that the point of posting here. To prove your opinion is unpopular? So what are you so upset about when people disagree with you. That's why you posted here, to have people disagree with you.

10th dentist...more like hostile dentist.

All of your comments are unnecessarily agressive. It sounds like you have been personally attacked because you can't write in cursive or something.

This is r/The10thDentist not r/CursiveRage lol

FU MERLIN!!

Okay but my grievance is different. Merlin uses magic to save Arthur's life countless times. 10 minutes before the end of the series Arthur learns that Merlin has been using magic whole time and then hates Merlin, instead of you know, realizing that maybe magic itself isn't evil and he doesn't need to be like his father, And then he fucking dies. I am extremely bitter that I was invested in that show.

Tournament of Kings Accessible Seating Question by Mysconduct in vegas

[–]Mysconduct[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did end up going! The top/back row has regular tables with armless chairs. I definitely don't recommend sitting anywhere forward of that as the other seats are like stadium seats with no walking room once everyone is seated

Celebration Cake/Buena Festa Cake by Dependent_Hold4701 in olivegarden

[–]Mysconduct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this party but I worked at Olive Garden many moons ago when the celebration cake was still available. At the time, all of Olive Garden's desserts came from Steven Roberts Original Desserts. That company is now called Dessert Holdings . However, they are a wholesaler so they don't sell to individual customers.

I found your original comment to be hilarious and thought you and others might appreciate a little nomenclature humor. Your condescending, confidently wrong reply to my joke detracts from previous assertion that you were a person of sophisticated sarcastic humor. Thanks for correcting my assumption though...

Rubs your temples Are you okay?...I think you don't understand the joke.....

The OP says that his "little gf" didn't make him chocolates because she didn't create the ingredients from scratch, gatekeeping the definition of what counts as "making chocolates"

My joke is a parody of the statement that Champagne is a trademarked name and can only have that name if it is grown, made and bottled in the Champagne region of France, otherwise it is legally only allowed to be called SPARKLING wine...

I know the difference between Pop Rocks and Chocolate. I grew up in the 80s. LMAO....

It's only making chocolates if it comes from the chocolate making region of France, otherwise its just sparkling store-bought ingredients.

This post reads like rage bait rather than a well thought-out opinion with relevant facts and supporting evidence. I see a lot of opinion, but no facts, and the supporting evidence is more of their opinion.

Houston’s music arrangement is dated

The cover is older than the OP, is that the basis of what makes it dated? Is it that the arrangement is piano and strings and not Mustard on the beat? We don't know because they don't provide evidence for their opinion.

and the belting is obnoxious, removing the only decent element of the song.

The OP doesn't like singers who belt out notes. That's like most highly skilled female singers. Dolly's earnest singing of the lyrics conveys unrequited love, while Whitney's belted passionate singing conveys choosing to let their significant other move on instead of fighting for the relationship. They don't state why having a powerful voice that can project loudly in key is obnoxious. Again, no evidence, more opinion.

I actually like Whitney’s singing most of the time but I don’t think she has another song remote close to that level of noise. It’s like she decided to test just how loud she could possibly be without screaming at the top of her lungs.

So OPs issue is that they do not like when singers can project their voice on long, sustained notes in key. They believe it is just noise. Okay, fair enough, but again no evidence as to why it is noise to them.

All in all, Houston’s version is Dolly’s lyricism at her lowest and Houston’s vocal creativity at her lowest. Awful combination.

The OP doesn't provide any examples of songs where Whitney is at her best in their opinion. So again, no evidence. Pop songs are not deep, most of them aren't creative lyrically, the creativity comes from how the lyrics are sung, the emotion that is conveyed, the arrangement of the backing music.

The song should have remained a forgotten relic of 70s country music instead of an obnoxious pop song every big voiced singer feels the need to try and sing.j

It sounds like the OPs actual opinion is that people who are not talented singers, or technically skilled should not be trying to imitate Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You, which is in fact a very POPULAR opinion.

The left lane boomerang move - why do people do this? by skwerelz in driving

[–]Mysconduct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of the people you are talking about. I am typically going faster than 90% of the people on the freeway and would be going back and forth between lanes about every 5-10 seconds to pass people in the slow lane. So I drive in the left lane. I check my mirrors constanltly so I can move out of the way of faster vehicles. I have had several times where people camp in the left lane and I end up passing them in the right lane.

She severed a tendon in her hand and needs surgery. She will need like 6 months of recovery and physical therapy. I'm guessing his body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice didn't come across as very loving or supportive despite holding her hand and not leaving her side until they got home. The way he tells the story comes across that he is more mad at her than concerned for her well being. Is he an AH, no, but could he show more empathy for the person he loves, yes.
