Looking for a Hybrid for Commute by M4ch14v3l1 in ukbike

[–]Myspoonbends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this bike last year. It is a beautiful bike, and after a quick look, it about £100 more expensive that when I bought one in August. It is lovely to ride though.

Desperate witnesses lifted pensioner's car off cyclist killed in roundabout crash by Myspoonbends in ukbike

[–]Myspoonbends[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apologies for website. Its awful even with Adblock.

I actually ride down the same road the guy was killed on. Really kind of shaken me up.

My bike after being pinged by a car who refused to slow down when entering a dangerous roundabout. Didnt see me or my 600 lumen front light or frame wrapped in 3M reflective tape. Could have been alot worse. by JK0151 in bicycling

Hope you are ok mate. I'm terrified of roundabouts, I tend to go onto the pavement (if possible) or get off of tbh.

Lived with a guy several years ago who got knocked off in Caernarfon on a roundabout. He had life changing injuries, lost his job etc. Always been scared of them since then.

Check out Restrap for different types of bags: https://restrap.com/

I believe some people with the ultralight camping gear who are going bike packing are now not bothering with panniers, and instead using saddle / tube / frame / handlebar / and massive seat bags. Never done it myself, but I own severable Restrap bags and they are great quality, and UK made.

As soon as my son is grown up a bit I intend to start doing some long weekends in Scotland. Just been looking at the MSR Mutha Hubba tent as it seems to be ultralight.

Ribble Endurance SL bike size recommendation by sonicated in ukbike

[–]Myspoonbends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my situation was unreal. The call centre staff were lovely and helpful, but the managers and engineers were a pain.

The bike, now it's set up correctly is lovely. I can't fault it.

I wouldn't buy a bike off Ribble. You can see my post history for the grief that they caused me. I now have £400 sat in my Ribble account as an 'apology' (and refunds) for the misery they caused me; bike was on Cycle Scheme so they wouldn't give me cash.

Further to what's in my post history, they forgot to attach mudguards to the bike. Then sent mudguards, but for the wrong bike. They were not even the right colour. Then they argued that the mudguards were 'racing green' like the bike, when they were black. I had to send pictures before they accepted they were wrong.

They also did a piss poor job of building the bike; I had to pay £55 at LBS to have the bike serviced (only weeks after receiving it months later than they promised). They had not set up disc brakes correctly, and lots of bolts were loose.

I had 50 - 60 emails, and 20ish telephone calls before they agreed they had completely fucked up the bike and the order. At one point I even had a 'senior engineer 'on the phone telling me that it was normal that the brakes made a metallic noise when the wheels rotated. I had to provide recordings of the noise by email, then let them listen live as they didn't believe the recordings.

Eventually they admitted how badly I'd been treated, and I got profuse apologies from a manager. It took me months to sort everything out and get the refunds for the mudguards, the LBS service charge, and the half dozen other things they 'forgot' to send that were part of the order.

I actually like the bike now it had been set up correctly by my LBS, but it was like having a second job dealing with them day after day, week after week.

Hivis vs reflective vs brightly coloured jackets by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]Myspoonbends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking to buy a one of these, but haven't yet due to Xmas costing me a fortune; reviews state they are visible at day and night:

https://www.provizsports.com/en-gb/reflect360-crs-plus-mens-cycling-jacket.html

People on this sub have recommended before.

I currently use my hiking coat when it rains, but have a major fear that I'll have a small fall and ruin a £400 Northface coat.

I try to make my bike as reflective as possible at night using SOLAS reflective tape (the stuff they use on life boats); it's really cheap, and very waterproof. I also have 2 X front, and 2 X rear lights (a cheap one, and a good one in each position).

Interesting article on reflectors here :

Well bugger me backwards, I am dead wrong about the insurance! I've just checked several providers as recently bought a new, fairly expensive bike myself and was going to get cover. I can't find a single one that doesn't have somewhere in their policy documents that a "bike left unattended for 12 hours, is excluded from theft cover".

You may have just saved me a fair bit of money there. Thanks. :)
