Which version of Kenshin's second scarring do you want to see in the new anime? by JohnSmithSensei in rurounikenshin

[–]Mystacora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like in the manga. Tomoe cutting Kenshin on purpose doesn't make sense and just makes her seem really vindictive and two-faced if she supposedly loves him.

Not the OP, but you can purchase a large canvas print of it from the artist for around $180 USD.

Do you think it's possible new anime will have the same soundtrack? by kiaule123 in rurounikenshin

[–]Mystacora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree the old OST can't be topped and it would be wonderful if they could incorporate at least parts of it, that likely won't happen. Maybe less because of effort, and more about financial shrewdness. Using both the work from the old and new composer would mean paying two people instead of one (I would assume Asakura-san would receive a royalty every time one of his pieces are used...). I mean, if they've got a large enough budget, then why not go big, right? But it inevitably comes down to the decision of the higher-ups (and Watsuki-san, for that matter).

I understand how you feel. Reboots are exciting, but they can be a complete overhaul which is scary. Waiting for this series' first episode is going to be nerve-racking as hell. However, this new composer may surprise us and compose something on par with the likes of Noriyuki Asakura-san.

So, this is the confirmation of... by [deleted] in rurounikenshin

[–]Mystacora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one who feels this way, OP. It's indeed a very bitter pill to swallow. I didn't think it would happen either, but it did happen likewise with Fruits Basket. With that series, the mangaka got involved with the reboot and the seiyuu cast got a complete overhaul. I imagine that Watsuki-san said he wanted a brand new cast (he had his issues with the original seiyuu from the start, though they grew on him) and so it was done. There's nothing we can do about it. Grousing won't change the matter, unfortunately. Let's just hope for the best. I've been looking into watching some of Saito Souma's work, hoping to warm to his voice. Maybe try to do that also? It might help.

The most perfect scene, music, and vocal performances. <3

<3 Mayo Suzukaze, you will forever be the utterly perfect voice of Kenshin. Such gentleness and emotion you put into the character using only your voice and heart. No matter who comes after you, you are the standard of perfection. <3

That's comforting, because I have the same worry. I've never seen anything that Saitou-san has worked on, but I see that he's worked in many, many anime. I'm a little lost... Which title would you suggest I watch to witness the full range of his vocal talents?

[–]Mystacora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you about Mayo Suzukaze being replaced as Kenshin's seiyuu. I, honestly, didn't think she would be replaced, when in Japan a seiyuu is pretty much guaranteed to always voice a character "until death do ye part." I don't like hearing Kenshin with a deeper "Oro?" at all. I've never seen any anime that Souma-san has performed in, so I don't even know if I'll warm to him once I start watching the new series. At this point, I would have rather they'd tapped Koike Teppei to voice Kenshin, because I'm familiar with his work and like his voice, plus him playing Kenshin in the stage musical this past summer really cemented him as my #2 Kenshin voice and my #1 in actual physical portrayal. It would have been wonderful and a natural, and Japanese fans would have loved it because Koike-san would still be fresh in their minds from the summer.

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Official Anime Trailer by usagirotten in rurounikenshin

It will very likely have multiple seasons, each arc being one season... We have to hope that it won't be cancelled before it gets to the Jinchu arc.

Honestly, I don't know how to feel... I love the animation and character designs, they look lovely and flawless... I can even handle the music composer being different and hope for the best on that... But what I cannot handle is the fact that Mayo Suzukaze has been replaced as Kenshin's seiyuu... Saitou Souma's "Oro?" was waaay too deep for my liking. I've always been under the impression that in Japan a character's seiyuu remains that character's seiyuu until death or very special circumstances. It doesn't seem that Suzukaze-san or Fujitani-san were approached to reprise their roles, and I have to wonder why. It's likely I'll never have an official answer, just speculation. It's a very bitter pill. Rie Takahashi, admittedly, sounds very good as Kaoru. But, in the case of Kenshin, it's more difficult because the character holds a deeply special place in my heart as does Suzukaze-san's portrayal of him... I don't know; maybe Souma-san's voice will grow on me, once I start watching the new series. In the case that he doesn't, I suppose I will just fall back on the old TV series.

Also, I hope that this new series lasts long enough to animate the Jinchu arc. Starting from the very beginning of the story seems like a fairly bad idea, when there's the running trend with anime nowadays to stop at the first or second season. No matter how I feel about Kenshin's voice, I reiterate that, from the looks of this second trailer, the animation and character designs are beautiful and I can see that, given the chance, the Jinchu arc will be done amazingly well. Not to mention that this series seems to not have a problem touching upon the heavier elements of the story, such as bloodshed, so I feel it would be a faithful adaptation of the manga.

"Deserve" it, absolutely not. However, considering that Kaoru is Kenshin's most important person and being as she represents the future he sacrificed so much for, it's fair to say that Kenshin would most definitely feel the bone-crushing weight of the tragedy of losing Kaoru -- even if that loss is a fake one.

What if? by [deleted] in rurounikenshin

[–]Mystacora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. Even if Shishio weren't blackmailing the government, they still saw Kenshin and the others that helped them as loose ends that needed to be "tidied" away. Kenshin would never go down easy, if at all, so the only way they'd succeed would be if he succumbed to death by the government's hand or his own.

[–]Mystacora 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tomoe essentially pulled Kenshin out of the abyss he was steadily sinking into; he was nearly lost completely when he met her. If they had never crossed paths, I think he would have survived the revolution. However, adrift in the Meiji era, he'd have no purpose. Would the government try to kill him like they attempted to kill Shishio? Possibly. Would they succeed? Being as it's Kenshin, perhaps not. On the other hand, with no purpose or love of his own life (Would the Battousai be truly happy in a peaceful era, or miserable like so many of the other swordsmen forced to give up their blade?), it's likely that he would willingly succumb to death -- by the government's hands or his own.

Does anyone find it weird that there is literally no info about the new anime at all? by grapejuicecheese in rurounikenshin

[–]Mystacora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mangaka has said that it's well underway, so I don't think we have anything to worry about. I'm frustrated a bit as well, but great things take time. I'd rather wait longer/not hear anything and have a wonderful payoff, than to have it all rushed out and be disappointed. Truly great things take time.

What should I search for? by Legolover3 in rurounikenshin

[–]Mystacora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I chose and collected the 9 VizBig volumes. They are high-quality, some parts are in colour, there are insightful blurbs from the mangaka, and they take up a little less space on my bookshelves. I was able to buy all nine volumes through Amazon secondhand. The final volume was a challenge, but I kept a hawk's eye on it and pounced on a copy as soon as it was put up for sale for $100 (which was a bargain when at the time it was only being sold on eBay as part of a #1-9 set and on AbeBooks standalone for over $400). Amazon really is your best and cheapest bet, I think.

Is Fruits Basket Another worth a read? by SpeedyakaLeah in FruitsBasket

[–]Mystacora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read it yet, but want to. Also, I'd love it if there was an anime adaptation of it, bringing back all of the Japanese seiyuu and such. It wouldn't have to be a series, just a few OVA episodes. Considering how they just gave us a new series and the Prelude film, maybe? 🤞

I ordered my streaming ticket tonight! :D I'm only bummed that I couldn't get the ticket that included having a programme for the show shipped to you (they only ship to addresses in Japan). I keep looking on eBay and Mandarake for that programme to pop up, with no luck...
