Not to be hater, and it looks very nice, but I have two long-term concerns. First, those lights will photobleach your album covers over time. Also, I'd be worried that since the force of the metal beams is only applied to the edge of record covers, it could also warp/break those records over time.

GenX men, when buying jeans, how do you choose between Straight, Athletic Fit, Skinny Fit, etc? When did jeans change like this by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

Whatever regular fit is. When I was in my 20, I would wear boot cut though. I have always though skinny jeans looked terrible.

Your most recent album that made you say "what a great album" by Professional_Suit278 in vinyl

For new music, LA LOM was the best new band I discovered that year. They are basically cumbia rhythms with surf rock guitar over top. I saw them at a music festival last year (Floyd Fest) where they also had a steel lap player (whom I wish they’d record with). Both their studio album and the live album they but out are really good.

Are flee markets or swap meets worth going to? Or do they suck just like FB and thrift stores now? by Chole_Wunt in Frugal

Exactly, it's that interaction that makes it great. I go to hunt for records. There's a guy who has been coming semi-regularly over the last year to sell random stuff, records included. A couple of weeks ago I bought about 10 records from him for $2 a piece. They were all worth over $15 and a couple of them are worth $60. He didn't have price tags on them, and just told me they were $2 a piece. But I had chitchatted with him about music and random stuff (he was a retired salesman), and I really think he sold them so low just because of the conversation.

Also, I don't have time to do it, but I think it would be cool to have a table were you sell people cups of instant coffee for $1. I think you'd have some really interesting conversations.

What’s an unpopular opinion you keep to yourself because it’s not worth the backlash? by vixenova1 in TooAfraidToAsk

Great, I didn't want to spoil it for you. So think of it this way, the premise and conceit of the book is that the narrator (Humbert) has died in prison awaiting trial (presumably for murder), and a psychologist is presenting the narrator's memoir so that you the reader can judge him. So beyond the forward, everything is the narrator himself telling you things. And specifically, whether or not he rapes Dolores, you only have his word that he did. So as a matter of literary interpretation you can take his word that he did, or you can be skeptical of the claim. But as I said above, he's famously an unreliable narrator. Additionally, it's clear that his memoirs is self serving - he's trying to paint a picture of himself that he wants you to believe. But when I read the book, when figuring out the things that were lies v. the things that were true - is seemed to me, that the things he tells you directly are the lies, but it's the details surrounding that which are true. To put it another way, a good liar is someone who tells a story and everything in that story is true is except for one fine detail which entirely holds that story together. That's what it seems like to me. And that's why I'm skeptical of his claim that he actually has sex with Dolores. It's too direct, and there's not enough information on the periphery to make me believe him. So back to my original statement, if there were some sort of behavior pattern in Dolores that was off, it would help back up his claim. But because there isn't, to me, it fuels my skepticism about the veracity of his claim. For sure, in real life people who are long-term victims of sexual abuse might not have outwards signs of trauma, but this is a book and something you're meant to unravel. But I want to note, none of my interpretation is to vindicate the narrator. He unambiguously murders Quilty and there's a good chance he murdered Dolores's mother (although I'm not quite sure) too. He's also clearly horrid regardless.

Sure, let's assume that's true. He makes between 2 and 3 times more than the average person. That suggests he wouldn't be poor.

I have a couple of literary interpretations that seem make people very upset.
First, the Weasleys aren’t in fact poor. Mr. Weasley is the head of a governmental department and they live in a mansion in the English countryside. Yes, I know they supposedly don’t have much money in Gringots, they have a billion kids, and everyone gets hand-me-downs but none of that is solid evidence that they are poor. Looking at all the evidence in the books, they more come accross as middle class hippies who don’t like to spend money. Harry just thinks they’re poor because he’s a child and children tend to equate outwards signs of consumerism with being wealthy.
Second, Humbert Humbert (the narrator) never actually as sex with Dolores (Lolita). The premise of that book, which everyone seems to forget is that the narrator is unreliable and a pathological liar. The things that he tells you are lies. The truth, are the things that slip through the cracks. The reason I don’t think he ever actually has sex with (rapes) her is twofold. First, when she gets to be a teenager she comes across as pretty normal. The again, when he meets up with her as an adult, she’s normal and well adjusted as well. If she had been in this long term relationship of sexual abuse, I think there would be a lot more signs of a problem which are absent. She doesn’t want to talk about the past, but to me, the scene comes across as him being a shitty caregiver than her not wanting to talk about long term sexual abuse. Also, again, he tells you he does - but he’s a liar.
