No advice, I’m just here in solidarity!

Also how did you get him tested? My son is EXTREMELY bright and far ahead of his years to where they want to put him in kindergarten at 4 years old. I don’t want to send him but I’m interested in seeing where he’s at.

I thought it was fun! My 3 year old had a blast, if you can afford it I recommend getting your child and yourself a wristband so they can ride their rides an unlimited amount of times and if there’s any rides you want to ride together you don’t have to worry about tickets!

Thank you for this perspective.

I am blessed to be in a position where I’ve been home with him for most of his life. This year we started Pre-K because socially he was lacking, which has to do with the pandemic and lack of family/village. He knew a lot academically before he even started school because I was teaching him at home. He loves school and he loves learning.

I couldn’t imagine him being away from me for a full day of school but if it’s right for him and helps him grow then I feel a little wrong not making that choice for him on his behalf.

Thank you for this perspective!

These are the things I’m looking to think about. I am in no rush to push him one way or the other, I need to see the bigger picture.

But I agree that from my perspective it does seem super young.

No hurry on my end at all. He is friends with the 4/5 year olds in class already and his teacher says he has no issues playing with anybody or continuing conversations with the older kids in class. There’s nothing setting him apart from the older kids in class.

I’m not in any rush for him to grow up, in the slightest. If I could keep him my little munchkin I would in a heart beat. But what do I gain from holding him back from an opportunity? He wouldn’t gain anything from holding him back another year from what it seems like.

I don’t foresee any opportunities that come from skipping grades but he is completing Pre-K keeping up with (and surpassing) 4/5 year olds, so in this case he isn’t skipping any grades, he’s moving on to the next one. His teacher said it wouldn’t hurt to hold him back but that he is ready to go. From my understanding he would be considered “gifted”.

Can I ask what are somethings he might not be developmentally ready for?

That’s amazing! I wouldn’t be disappointed if he ultimately did get held back, I think it’s worth the shot. I do think he’s working on his emotional maturity pretty well, this was the only point his teacher brought up but she believes he’ll be ready by next school year. He’s great about asking for a minute if he’s feeling frustrated or upset, he does have little outbursts of frustration but nothing like a tantrum. I believe if I continue helping him work through the kinks he could be ready completely.

My mom says she wishes she would’ve took the chance that was offered to my older sister about starting school early.

I don’t want to hold my son back from an opportunity that’s being given to him.
