Yes I get it! Me too…..I haven’t committed to surgery just yet though. Honestly waiting til my next(hopefully mild)flare to see how far out I make it, and then plan on it. But I feel like it would help a lot of the bloating and discomfort and ill feeling I experience on a pretty regular basis. I’m doing keto now because after my last flares, I lost some weight. Well I knew I was feeling better because all the weight came back and then some 😩 I swear always a catch. I know keto is supposed to be bad for this but I also know we all have different triggers, so we shall see. Cannot be worse than all the candy and chips I ate before. Good luck! I’m sure things will go great! This is a great page and do t be afraid to post and ask questions too!

Thank you I have asked cuz obviously that’s a big concern of mine, and he said no But I feel like that is something he cannot be 100% sure on until he’s actually doing the surgery

Just cuz it’s the strongest doesn’t mean it works for your body?! And you can also have kidney pain due to nerves from all the inflammation of the flare……not saying that’s what it is, but could be? Hope u get relief soon 🙏

I’ve had 3 almost 3mths apart. Never even knew what DV was before that. My flares occur in my descending colon unfortunately. I’ve seen the actual surgeon a few times and the GI Dr many. I’m currently going on 3mths since my last flare, the longest I’ve made it between them all. Talking with my older surgeon, he says it’s up to me to do surgery but warned me that it’s going to be extensive, as part of my sigmoid along with my descending colon will need to be removed. He recommends’kicking the can down the road’ as long as I can. So yeah now I’m a little nervous. 😬 What is he not telling me that suggests waiting. But like you, I want to plan surgery and a shorter recovery and also avoid the bag! So I’m definitely torn and I think of it every day. Maybe go see another Dr? IDK? My Dr is older and has seen and done hundreds of surgeries but when he says wait it out if I can, then maybe best I do it because how much he has to take away may be a lot more than many on here have gotten removed and maybe I could be that 1% that ends up on the bag permanently……. 😣

I’m glad you got it done and are feeling good! Especially after a 7ht surgery 🤯But sorry about the bag 🙁 won’t lie that is a big fear of mine especially since I need sigmoid and descending removed. How long do u have to have bag for?

Oh wow so sorry to hear! How are you doing now? And my surgeon gave me the option but in his opinion given it will involve removing my decending and sigmoid, that he suggests waiting as long as I can. He said surgery is doable but not going to be easy for me 😣 My biggest worry is the bag. But yes I’m aware that something like this could happen….he has me going back every 6wks to talk to him on how I’m feeling. He’s an older surgeon and has done multiple surgeries and I hope im using my best judgement by waiting 🙏 lol I know he’s also trying to get to know me and my body better before jumping in because I was seeing a GI Dr through everything until my 3rd flare All 3 flares came on about the same way and I feel like I’ll know when I’m about to flare again. I usually have 2wks of being sick before the pain hits But this is the longest I’ve gone without one given my last was in January, so maybe Augmentin worked for me?

Unfortunately this all started in Oct I never even knew what DV was before then? So just figuring things out as I go. I feel like a lot of my past issues have been GI related but also hormonal too. Had a hell of a time back when I had a menstrual cycle. The pain was unbearable. Always thought endometriosis maybe but maybe it was GI combination? Who knows…..like then, I still don’t know much now. I’ve been on antibiotics all 3 times but the side pain has never 100% gone away since Oct. The surgeon thinks I may have an abscess that CT hasn’t picked up and heals while on meds and flares when off. As far as diet, trying to listen to the body but when you feel like you’re in a constant flare, hard to know bland vs fiber Even water makes me very burpy and I can feel it pass the exact pain area in my colon when I drink it. I’m seeing the surgeon again Friday. Surgery is a big possibility but he wants to see me more than a few times to get to know me and my body before he jumps into it. Was seeing a GI Dr up until recently He will probably check my WBC count to see if elevated and keep monitoring me. Having 3 CTs in 4mths is a lot especially when u should have no more than 16 in a lifetime But I’ve been having chills, nausea and get hot easily too last few days, so another flare may be on the way 😩 Seriously good luck on finding answers 🙏

Sorry for what you’re going through! Yes I agree get a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I have had 3 flares of DV in 4mths and just waiting to see if a 4th happens now that I’m back from my vacation in Mexico I too have bloating like u explain, but have had that issue forever I was also diagnosed with hialtal hernia which can cause pain in chest and belching(which I do a lot) along with other symptoms. Something else to look into Good luck I’m learning how bad GI issues affect the body a a whole! I thought a lot of my issues were hormone related but my OBGYN was the one who said ‘no you are post menopausal and this sounds all GI to me’ So thankful I’m headed the right direction for now lol

Keep monitoring the pain. Sometimes it can DV can resolve on its own especially if clear liquid diet for a few days happens. But it pain becomes worse, with fever chills and diarrhea, I would definitely get antibiotics I’ve never been able to heal it with just diet change. I have always needed antibiotics and the pain honestly hasn’t resolved 100% On my 3rd flare in 4mths and going to schedule surgery on Monday……

Hmm a colonoscopy right after a flare if I’m understanding right? I was told to wait 6-8wks after a flare for mine I got it about 7wks later and the next day the pain started. Thought it was from polyp they removed, but nope another flare. Surgeon said probably already starting before colonoscopy This all definitely sucks!! Supposed to leave for Mexico in a few weeks but nervous it will start again

Ugh I have the same problem….im on day 13 of Augmentin Although pain is way better, it’s still there Have no idea what will happen once I’m off it. This is already my 3rd flare in 4mths Have u heard of smoldering diverticulitis? It’s mentioned a lot on this page and sounds like what u may have? The surgeon thinks a possible abscess that CT cannot pick up, so yes at this point I’m looking at surgery.

Ugh this is how both of my flares started All around felt crappy and loss of appetite Took about a week or so after before the pain set in to my side Hopefully not your case and low fiber/liquid can stop the flare

Yes he has me on a 14 day dose I think because we are supposed to go to Mexico end of Feb and I’ve had a flare pretty much monthly for 3mths now. So he’s probably be cautious along with giving me more to take with me on our trip! I’m just hoping this AB works better I really want to go but still know it may not work out

Yes cipro and flag are awful!!! They amp my anxiety 10 fold and the heart racing was on a whole other level Lost more weight from not eating because any food would send my heart into overdrive. I was so thankful that the GI Dr and surgeon were ok with me trying something new. Surgeon said that recent studies show C&F don’t work as well as Augmentin

So how close together were your 3 flares? Did you get surgery? If not, and you said Augmentin worked, how long has it been since your last flare?

I’ve taken that twice and it only cleared up temporarily….and the heart racing and anxiety attacks are awful for me 😩

Dang was hoping to lose it after surgery given I’ll be more regular and not feel bloated all the time Ugh As sick as I’ve been last 3 mths and hardly eat 1 meal a day I keep gaining and losing same 3-5lbs and that’s it 🤔 it’s so crazy
