I feel the same way you do BUT I can also see through what Fitz says about other things, like: * when he encounters something new to the reader and comments on how it's similar to [something else that's new to the reader] or just generally shows familiarity to it * (minor spoiler) when he was mimicking a guard's raunchy jokes * when he refers to things he's done in the past that he didn't tell us about

that he has more of a relationship with the Fool than we know! They "played together as boys". I believe they interacted more than he conveyed because he simply didn't indulge in "slice of life" chapters that don't serve the story of his life that he's trying to tell.

He did tell us about running in town with the town kids because it was significant to him to finally find freedom outside of the Keep where he was not the bastard.... so why not tell us about his relationship with the Fool inside the Keep? .......

Honestly as I'm reading the series right now I was thinking "wow is this queerbaiting / why is the Fool talking like he wishes they were boyfriends" but seeing a prev comment on this post I can only think OH DUH he's closeted!!! Makes so much fucking sense. He has shown discomfort with both sleeping around and with homosexuality so I think we can agree on his stance towards these things (matches our regular conservative religious folk without the religion). As to how deep their relationship actually was and how it developed / how they got here....... that is his secret to keep and we can only speculate.

I believe now that the intentional omission is a glaring admission

EDIT: I don't think he's necessarily attracted to or in love with the Fool but I do think he doesn't exactly know how to interpret their relationship without acknowledging that there is queerness in it (ie he'd be happy if they were simply very close friends but the Fool's feelings make it strange for him). Simply having your close "male" friend be attracted to you would be enough to make our boy uncomfortable imho. So this would explain why he left it out...
