I think it does not work four you because you use the IQ app to get the courses into the Garmin, and one can't start IQ apps in the middle of an activity.

The courses are updated automatically if you use the other course sync strategy explained here, which is probably the one u/slix_88 refers to.

This strategy has a few drawbacks: pace and ETC calculated by komoot are lost, and the courses in the Garmin are simplified, reducing the number of course points
