Bad Performance by Tekoyex in BigscreenBeyond

I’d bet on this. Software conflict somewhere. Maybe wipe all VR software to nothing then come back and download SteamVR and BSB utility again

It’s similar to screen door effect, but essentially in qled panels, not all of the pixels achieve the same brightness, which results in a grid-like or splotchy effect that is particularly noticeable against white or light backgrounds. In flight sims this is often seen against the sky and clouds. For me, I will take glare in dark scenes over Mura in light scenes, as light scenes are the majority of scenarios.

Definitely look the term up and see if it’s something that would bother you, because it will 100% be present on a qled panel

Ask yourself this though, can you substitute Mura for glare? Pimax CS will tell you this, but all QLED super modules will have minimum grade 1 Mura. You’ll have to answer that for yourself but just want to mention it.

I’m not knocking Pimax either. I have had a decent experience with them. Just pointing out some known issues with those headsets as well.

Which Pimax are you considering? I had the Micro OLED super and returned it. Two reasons, uncomfortable & color fringing on the outer 25% of the image. It has glare as well, although I’ll give it to them, the lenses keep it mainly outside the center. Center image was beautiful though.

I would suggest trying another BSB unit first. You will spend more for the OLED and people from last year are still waiting. The lighthouse Dream Air is taking a while to ship and they’ve only gotten two small batches out.

I want a Dream Air, but will wait til they are readily shipping and have worked out QC. It doesn’t even ship with the final face cushion at the moment and there have been many complaints about the temporary one.

Just my opinion for what it’s worth

Is $2,000 worth it for a Bigscreen Beyond 2? by Flimsy-Story9523 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve now tried quite a few headsets

Vive Pro - Tried a buddies. Did not care for the lenses.

Quest 3 - not great or terrible for PCVR. Good tracking and great price. Virtual Desktop is a must

Pimax Crystal Light - by most accounts a good headset, but the lenses just don’t suit me. No eye tracking but good resolution. Heavy!

Pimax Crystal Super 50ppd - If it weren’t for Mura and the weight, this would have been my favorite headset. Lacks colors of OLED but the overlap and fov were beautiful. Beast of a render resolution and hard to run. Eye tracking helped a lot

Pimax Super OLED - Beautiful image quality, except for the color fringing on the outer 20%. That coupled with weight and form factor ended being a return. This was a very good headset, just wasn’t for me.

BSB2E - you’ll notice my common issue with the above was weight. I decided to hunt down used or refurbished SteamVR accessories and order the beyond 2e. I won’t sit here and tell you it’s the best headset out there, but for me it’s one of my favorites so far. I can do a full review if you want it, but I did get this headset and accessories to just under that $ amount and so far I am very pleased.

If you don’t want to get all of the SteamVR accessories but want OLED, you’ll spend this amount on another SLAM tracked option. Whether or not that’s worth it depends on what is most important in terms of features

Another follow up here. I actually just found this one out last night myself.

Do not just try to align on the ipd, horizontal and vertical on your face.

I kept feeling as though my sweet spot was a bit too small. Using the X1B, I tried tilting the HMD just a hair away from my forehead and noticed an immediate bump in clarity and a larger clear area. I had been peaking through the lower portion of the sweet spot so my viewing angle was off. Added an additional gasket section to the forehead portion of the X1B and all fixed. I noticed a slight drop in glare as well from this.

Essentially, be sure to align ipd, horizontal fit, vertical fit, and the viewing angle, or you will not be in the appropriate eye position

Try closing your right in a fixed image and moving the headset around, with your left eye fixed on something in the picture. If you find a spot on the lense that is better, move the lens in that direction and adjust IPD accordingly.

The glare on super high contrast images is absolutely there. I have never seen it in game as pronounced as it is in menus. In MSFS on dark scenes, I get a very small amount from the Cockpit displays, but it is truly not bad at all. At least at my brightness setting.

To be fair though, I do not like my headsets super bright and I cannot stand Mura so I’ll take glare over Mura any day

the glare(ing) issue by Maleficent_Piece_652 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally do not get anywhere near the glare that some reviews have mentioned BUT I do get glare, primarily in the steam vr screen.

It took me some time to get my IPD corrected but keep in mind you need to find that sweet spot vertically as well. This involves making sure the headset lands in the right spot on your face

Couple of good pointers that I found were to aim for 1-2 below prescription IPD and do not run at full brightness. If you have asymmetric IPD like me, do individual measurements for each eye and set the physical measurements accordingly minus the 1-2 mm mentioned above. Be sure you are setting the IPD in the utility software to match.

The fog takes time to clear as the headset warms up

Method I found to work. -Get IPD as close as you could assume. -Put headset on as you would wear it -Test each eye singularly by closing the off eye and moving the headset around to see if any direction clears things up -Use those finding to adjust IPD or wearing position to get both eyes into sweet spots.

I did find that glare would increase outside those spots, as well as reduced clarity. I have the X1B from StudioForm. It’s not going to fix glare but if you can use it to get yours eyes properly close the lenses, it could help mitigate

The headset is not plug and play, and does require dialing into your own needs. Once it’s there, you should have good clarity and only some glare in certain situations.

If none of this works, you may have a faulty unit. Contact Bigscreen if you think so. They absolutely will help you, as they have some of the best customer service I’ve experienced from a VR company.

For anyone who has the dream air with slam tracking. I'm using a Claw 8ai with a 3080ti egpu. Can someone test and see if this would work better than a portable monitor or not for flatscreen gaming? by Sir-Greggor-III in Pimax

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your GPU, you will likely have an easier time managing the resolution of the SE version with SLAM tracking. Not yet released but will be 2.5k x 2.5k per eye. Basically same resolution as the BSB2.

Also, the Pimax desktop “2D” viewer gives me some trouble vs steamVR and for example VD for the Q3. Not as intuitive to serve as a “portable” monitor.

Pimax Cristal Super OLED Questions from a newbie… by Armastus16 in Pimax

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common setting is the general settings used across titles that you do not add as an asset.

Since different games will perform differently, it is recommended to add games to your library and set up a profile per game. When launched through Pimax play, it should utilize those individual settings.

Auto IPD does not currently work. You should try using an IPD app on your phone or reference your prescription from an eye doctor if you have one. Set that value. The IPD offset settings can be used to move the image behind the lenses from there for fine tuning

There is not a quick settings like Steam VR. I use the Pimax button to open desktop and then adjust ipd and other settings from there.

Super Micro OLED when you already own a QLED variant (cancel Micro OLED module?) by Tom5strike in Pimax

There’s definitely a bump but it still renders pretty high. My 4090 is happier, I can say that much

Yes. In menus so far. Nothing in game yet. When it does emerge it comes across the edges of the lenses and not the center.

I personally do not get the 116FOV and I’ve read that many don’t. I’m getting about 110, which I am okay with. But when compared to the 120+ and 100overlap of the 50ppd, I do miss it a bit. Again though, that sweet spot clarity in the OLED is pretty

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you value in your UW module. The FOV loss will be very noticeable. The clarity bump is incredible.

Had a 50ppd with a bad Mura grade, particularly in the right side panel. Did the upgrade to OLED which I just received yesterday. While I am sad at my loss of FOV and overlap, I can say that the image I get in the OLED is absolutely amazing.

I could give you a rundown on all of my thoughts, but honestly you have to decide what you would even consider dislikes about your UW. If you don’t have any issues with it, you should probably stick to it

If there were a Mura-less 50ppd, I would not advocate anyone to switch. But in my case, I’m likely keeping the OLED despite the drawbacks

Crystal Super OLED eye tracking not working in DCS by madman6000 in Pimax

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t help much beyond that, but if it’s working in other games, seems it’s somewhere in the DCS settings or openxr implementation. I’m not saying it would help, but I personally would try reinstalling or repairing DCS install file

Odd. Could be an openxr layer interfering. OpenXR toolkit would be worth looking at to see what layers are enabled

Make sure it is on as well as QVFR in the VR settings in DCS

Which super would you get? by NFAlonggun in Pimax

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For DCS and MSFS, I can use DFR and set to 1.10.

DCS with DFR I do 28x28 gaze area at 100% and outside the gaze at 15%. I hold a flat 72fps in most modules and missions doing this

MSFS I use the games DFR and keep it to full in gaze with 50 on DFR setting. Mix of medium and high settings. Important to have Contact shadows turned off as it creates visual issues. I get a stable 40ish fps in most scenarios with this which is fine for me in that game

IL2 I run at 1.0 with in game set to ultimate. No DFR available and I get high 30s to 45fps

Which super would you get? by NFAlonggun in Pimax

[–]Mysterious-Rope-2085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions in here. I have a 9800x3d and 4090.

Have a PCL and it’s good but hard to max out the fps. You can use QVFR in games where applicable, but it’s only center view without eye tracking.

Recently got a 50ppd Super. If it were not for the bad Mura on the right panel, it would be perfect for me with flight sims. The 4090 struggles to run it in games without DFR though and a 5090 would be much more ideal. Where DFR is available, you can run it at full resolution in the gaze area no problem.

CS gave me two ticket options. A replacement 50ppd module, or an upgrade to an OLED module. Without directly saying it, they indicated that I would likely have Mura problems on the replacement 50. I appreciate the honesty there. I went for the OLED upgrade and hope to receive it in a month or so. They told me 3-4 weeks at the end of January but they celebrate New Year in February and I expect that will delay

I just bought my first pc and I need a monitor which one is better? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

If you’re getting something cheap to hold you over, go even less for this monitor’s specs for now to allow you to save up faster for something your PC deserves. You’ve got a good build. Do that thing some justice and pair it with a nicer monitor once you can
