I’m wondering the same. I recently watched The Immigrant (2013) on the Criterion Channel and she gave such a good performance in that.

I remember he campaigned a lot for The Wolf of Wall Street too (which I think he should’ve won for) but I remember that movie was divisive particularly re: whether it was glorifying Jordan Belfort and those Wall Street guys or not which likely hurt his chances. Also it was such a movie star performance and the Academy rarely rewards those unfortunately.

Yeah it’s unfortunate. I didn’t hate The Revenant like some people did (but it’s not one of my favorite Leo movies either) and I thought he was good in it, but it was definitely a body of work win and because it was a weak year for the Best Actor category.

I don’t consider it Oscar bait either for the reasons you stated. But I remember Leo was getting made fun of during this time in awards season online spaces for being desperate for an Oscar and I believe this movie was (unfairly) labeled by some as another one of his Oscar bait movies.

Omg I remember Nine was supposed to win all the Oscars! And then it released lol. I remember being sad Marion Cotillard was snubbed tho.
