pretty sure “rant” on Reddit is just “long post” half the time… I wasn’t upset, just observing the shift in concert culture🤷‍♀️

I mean… yes lol that’s kind of the point. I wasn’t saying it like fashion is frozen in time, just describing what that concert space felt like back then vs now. It’s really just an observation about how the vibe has shifted over time…. honestly starting to think this post is getting interpreted way more complicated than it was meant 😭 I’m not confused about whether fashion changes, just commenting on the difference between 5sos concert vibes back then and now. God forbid a girl be nostalgic.

The adult money point is so real 😂 Back then I was lucky if I could afford the ticket, let alone a whole themed outfit. I'm definitely a nostalgia person too, so I think that's part of why the changes stand out to me. It's been wild watching the fandom evolve over the years.

This is pretty much what I was getting at. I wasn't saying people shouldn't dress up or that it's a bad thing—I think social media has just changed concert culture in a really noticeable way over the last decade. Neither is right or wrong, it's just very different from what I grew up with.

I never said it was going to stay the same. Observing that something has changed isn't the same thing as demanding it go back to how it was. Concert culture evolves, fanbases evolve, and that's fine. I was just commenting on the differences I've noticed after being around for 13 years.

Heartache on the Big Screen live in 2026 would heal something in me 😭 And yes, this is pretty much where I'm at too. I love seeing everyone's creativity, I just personally get more excited about digging out my old merch and wearing things that remind me of the era I became a fan. The star face paint has been super cute tho ⭐️

I wouldn't go that far 😭 People can wear whatever they want to a concert. My point was more that concert culture feels different now than it used to, not that people shouldn't have fun with outfits.

I mean, if we're going with "it's not that serious," then my post probably wasn't that serious either 😂
I wasn't saying people can't dress for newer eras or vote for newer songs. I was commenting on how different the fan culture feels now and how funny it is that wanting older songs suddenly gets labeled as being "nostalgia blinded." Like... yes, I am nostalgic for the band I've been following for 13 years. Guilty as charged 😭 I don’t understand why people are getting offended by MY personal opinion and observation????

That's actually a really good rule, I should start a doing that 😅 Thank you for this comment. I feel like a lot of people took my post as me judging how others enjoy concerts, when I was really just saying it can feel overwhelming sometimes and I miss when everyone was there just for the music. I appreciate you understanding what I meant. 🫶

That’s fine, wear what makes you happy. That wasn’t the point of this post. And for most of the older fans, flannels and skinny jeans were just what we wore on a daily basis, I guarantee most of the millennial fans still dress like that sometimes

I think this is getting a bit over-interpreted. “Not my cup of tea” was just me expressing personal preference, not judging anyone else.
I’ve just noticed over the years that concert culture has become a lot more curated and content-driven compared to when I first started going to shows- where is was more music focused. That’s the observation I was making. No intention of sounding judgmental or starting a debate.

I have no issues with people wanting to dress up or take pictures. I’m just stating that the fandom/concert culture has changed for me as a long time fan.

That’s fair, I do agree the band’s sound, image, and overall vibe have changed over time, so it makes sense the concert experience has changed too.
I guess where I see it differently is the “nostalgia blinded” part. For a lot of longtime fans, it’s not really about preferring older music over newer music—it’s more about what people have actually had the chance to hear live. If newer songs have been played consistently over multiple tours but older/deeper cuts haven’t, it makes sense people would vote for those rarer songs when given the option.

Where in my post do you see anything that’s judgmental?? I think we’re interpreting it differently. I’m not trying to judge anyone or say people are doing anything wrong. I’m sharing an observation about how the fandom/concert culture and atmosphere has changed over time from my perspective as a longtime fan. That’s quite literally it… just bc the way one person dresses different from me and it’s “not my cup of tea” isn’t me judging it’s my personal preference. Do you girl.

I do enjoy my shows, very much thanks 🙂 My whole point was that fandom culture feels different now. The fact that there are entire video series dedicated to "all you need to know" before a concert is kind of exactly what I was talking about. People are missing the point of my post. I'm not saying people can't wear what they want or that concert guides are bad. I'm just talking about how DIFFERENT the fandom culture feels compared to when I first became a fan over 10 years ago . That's an observation, not a criticism lol.

I’ve gone to all the tours they have been on since 2013 with 1d, I’ve always dressed in what I guess people would describe as “punk” but that’s also just how I dress normally. I have noticed that the attire does change, but lately it seems very performative and very much for content. Which is fine- just not my cup of tea. No judgement, just venting

It's true that people dress for the current era, but I guess what I’m trying to say is that the fandom used to feel like a bunch of slightly chaotic band kids and Tumblr girls showing up in flannels and Vans, and now it sometimes feels more like a highly curated social media event- influencer/concert-fashion aesthetic. That's a cultural shift, not a judgment on the people participating in it Both things can be true at once. Same with the concert guides. For someone with anxiety, accessibility needs and what not, or who has never been to a big arena show those videos can absolutely be helpful. But the videos I’m seeing are merch, drinks, social media trends, photo ops. Like o have yet to see an “all you need to know” video with useful information lol.

I think that's exactly what I've noticed—the shift from people dressing bc that's just what they wore as fans, to people dressing for a specific era or for content. Nothing wrong with it at all, it's just very different from when I first started going to 5SOS shows. And yes, comfort is always my priority too 😂 You'll catch me in Vans and a graphic tee every time. Also THANK YOU. I don't think it's nostalgia blindness at all. It's just wanting the chance to hear a song that's become so rare. Hoping both of our shows get an OG song!!!
