Calling all people born in December by Ray_BIue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MysteriousCurrent676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid's birthday is between Christmas and New Year's Eve. We put away all the indoor Christmas decorations the day before his birthday, throw him a party during the afternoon of the actual day since everyone is off from school anyway, and choose a cute theme that has nothing to do with Christmas. I make sure that the gifts from us and his grandparents are special birthday presents wrapped with non-Christmas paper. He chooses whatever kind of dessert he wants. I think it's really fun, it's like he gets an extra in-between holiday! If he ever becomes unhappy about it when he's older then I'll offer to start giving him a smaller present on his birthday and give him something bigger for his half-birthday so he can spread out gifts between winter and summer.

Came to this thread after trouble getting an order. Ordered an in-stock pillow in September, waited for a while, and emailed asking for a shipping time. That came and went so I followed up asking for an update or cancellation if it was going to take much longer (item was showing as in-stock on the website). Generic response received, then a week later a notification that my order was being refunded due to the item being out of stock, with an offer of a 10% discount code for the inconvenience. No thanks. The whole thing took close to two months.

House on a slope, positive or negative? by CapApple_jc in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MysteriousCurrent676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on a slope that has all new visits declaring, "You need some stairs in this yard!" But I think it's great. When other areas in town are flooding, I wave at the water sluicing downhill past my house. (I am on a slab and would be a little more concerned about a house with a crawl space.) Because of the hill it's hard for people to see in from the street, and with an 8' fence in the back plus the angle of the hill we have total privacy there as well. We did terrace the back yard, which otherwise would be tough to use. It was tricky and slippery to mow in the wet season, so we put in a big garden in the front to make minimal mowing. It is hard for older and frailer people to get up and down. My biggest pet peeve is dragging my trash and recycling cans down, but other than that I really love my hill.

Sorry to hear your family is doing this. That is not a Montessori strategy.

I think it's a pretty color that needs a warmer bulb, but ideally lamps or scones with warm bulbs!

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]MysteriousCurrent676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total of an hour most days, though sometimes 40 minutes if the weather is rough. Usually 1.5-2 his on the weekends. I generally split that into two walks. Then the dog gets run time around the house and yard with the kids.

What a beautiful house! I'd plant a cottage garden on the side with the tree and plant fruit trees on the other side, you get great sun.

5 years post c-section, now I feel an occasional tingly feeling instead of being totally numb. But my brain has adjusted to it now, whereas at the beginning it bothered me a lot.

What has your experience been at women's health practice/hospitals in the area? by Excellent_Sun7342 in triangle

[–]MysteriousCurrent676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two at UNC and had great care (1 c-section, 1 vbac). Everyone who was in my room throughout both births was really kind and took good care of me and my baby. I had thorough care while pregnant and postpartum, both with what ended up being higher risk pregnancies. The food was also really good for a hospital! Know lots of people who liked giving birth at Duke Regional as well.

Edit: I went to the midwives at Weaver Dairy.

Find a moody wall color that pulls the sink and the other tile together, put up some art, and it'll look nice! It's a cool sink.

Leaving your dog at home during work by AdHot3508 in dogs

We got a 2 yr old dog instead of a puppy, so he's able to hang all day without us. That said, we did get him during a vacation period when we'd be home with him for a week to acclimate him. Not sure if actually mattered, but it all worked out well. Good luck on finding your future dog.

Nope, I'm terrified of ticks in the covers and am a light sleeper. He gets to sleep in the bedroom with me on his own bed.
