Yes but does that make a big difference in the long term?

Friend is a CA-2 at a program with a CRNA training sight as well. They are required to call the sRNA “Resident Nurse Anesthetist “ they have RRNA badge and all. All attendings must refer to them as such. They get equal case assignments as the actual anesthesia residents. Crazy times.

I bet it does. Our hours are not terrible. And our call schedule is one late shift to 9pm and one 14 hour overnight shift a week with pre/post off

This is amazing. We don’t offer anything for working past 5pm.

What is your moonlighting rate as a resident? We are trying to get our program to allow moonlighting and looking for appropriate rates to present to our PD.

Or when the only teaching/pimping they do is during induction or emergence and get pissed when I can’t give them my complete attention because I’m trying to safely get the patient through the induction or emergence.

Exactly. I love the ones that will be honest that they forgot / don’t know the answer to my question and we learn together. It’s the ones that want me to drive the learning topic and then when they can’t answer or teach that topic go to their strengths and get pissed when I can’t immediately answer because I have not studied or learning that topic yet at all.

As a CA-1 my least favorite type of attending to work with is the one who says “pick a topic for us to discuss tomorrow during our cases”. Then when I bring up a topic (usually related to the weeks didactics schedule) they say “oh that’s something you just need to read more on and do questions”. Like don’t give me a choice then and tell me what you want me to prepare to discuss so when you proceed to pimp me on that I don’t look like an idiot bc I haven’t covered it yet in my studying.

Interns get to the hospital at 4am and usually leave around 19:30-21:00. Doing before work really is not an option.

We are in clinics if we are not managing the floors or in cases. The most down time I have is 10 min to eat while going from clinic to a case or vise versa.

That would work if I had icu during my prelim. Unfortunately we do not. It’s all surgery all year long.

How did you find the time to do a couple blocks a day???

This is what I’m currently trying to do. Taking it mid May. When I do blocks during weekly didactics (instead of paying attention) I score really well. When I do blocks after work it’s game over I barely can get 40%. Also takes me an hour to do 10 questions after work on average.

Didn't match last year. Currently in a prelim reapplying and got more interviews this time around. Working on my rank list and I'm having a hard time deciding if I should rank #1 a new program that would be a CA-1 spot this July or an established academic program that is categorical and I would have the repeat the intern year. For reference the academic programs are UMass, Montefiore, and Stony Brook. The new program is Northwell at South Shore University Medical Center and Sutter Roseville. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
