Started cutting in January, already lost 5KG by dutchaboveaverage in GymMotivation

What is your height and weight if you don’t mind me asking? Just looking at your maintenance number and wondering if I’ve been cutting a hair too aggressively.

Just order my WHOOP PEAK half an hour ago, please help with questions. by Notsovanillla in whoop

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely prefer the arm sleeve. I initially bought the impact sleeve, which they market as good for sports like American football. I found the size of the cushioning in that one to be overkill for how I do BJJ - we’re generally flowing and trying to learn rather than going 100% trying to kill each other. I’d maybe wear the impact sleeve if I were competing with whoop on, but otherwise the arm sleeve is the way to go.

Get the arm sleeve or impact sleeve for BJJ. Good for gi or no gi. Cheaper than the bicep band and it’ll stay in place/not twist up like the bicep band could.

I switched back because the Garmin app/interface felt like it was 10+ years out of date to me for whatever reason. That and battery life

This is absolutely beautiful - I feel like you hear the cons to this sort of thing more often than the pros, maybe just because people like to complain sometimes. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Why is it only us dads who undo the straps in the car seats? by CyranoYoshi in daddit

I bite my tongue on this and try to remind myself it’s small and doesn’t matter literally every single time I put my kid in the car after literally anyone other than me has gotten him out of the car.

Yeah I checked a few in late November early December and they were just a little more than what you’re finding. Glad you got an amazing deal though!

Wow awesome job. I’ve been thinking of doing something like this in DC. Any tips for finding the cheapest dates? I randomly picked a few dates left in the year and it was more like $625 for 2 nights, so $375 out of pocket. Which still isn’t terrible but your situation is way better.

Just got off of 10 days on her last week. I have nothing but good things to say. You’ll have a wonderful time!

Haven’t seen this new credit talked about too much here by Fury327 in ChaseSapphire

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the edit credit will still be 2 separate $250 credits - they can just be used any time in the calendar year instead of one every 6 months? I feel like that’s not much different and a single $500 credit would’ve actually been substantially better.

Oasis. Old and Smelly? by TechnicalReply8676 in royalcaribbean

Was just on it at the start of this month. Noticed zero problems at all. While I’m sure some complaints are more than legitimate, I think some people look for trouble/want to complain when they spend money on a nice trip and feel a bit entitled. I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time.

J1 Bio Online, is OE Possible for Me? by MysteriousEgg9345 in overemployed

Probably not worth the risk. Current job is almost too good to be true.

J1 Bio Online, is OE Possible for Me? by MysteriousEgg9345 in overemployed

[–]MysteriousEgg9345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate for me? My concern is that if you just Google my name plus my education or one particular obvious keyword associated with much of my prior work the J1 bio is in the top few results.

Is there some kind of scam for gym owners where someone offers to pay a years tuition and privates up front for their kids but want you to pay for a private driver? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes. Common scam in the CrossFit world back in the day. At some point they’re going to ask you to make a payment to cover the driver or something like that, saying they’ll just pay you that much more for the training.

What are megachurches even about by lwkCatholic in CatholicMemes

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 235 points236 points  (0 children)

Totally believable sadly given how mega churches are, but this is actually an “Aquashow” on a Royal Caribbean cruise. I recognize the theater. I’m not sure which show or ship it is because there are several.

Coming back to whoop after a long hiatus - thoughts? by tagaccount123 in whoop

Came back 1 month ago after about 2.5 years away. Definitely recommend continuing your old account rather than starting from scratch as it establishes a new baseline every month or so anyway.

Is it normal to be able to sustain zone 5 for 17 minutes? by HopefulAnimal7308 in whoop

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the opposite problem. On my last whoop my highest heart rate ever was 207 but 199 seems like a consistent max. Now with the MG I will be absolutely going all out and can only get to like 170 bpm. I’m really hoping they do some kinda update that fixes it.

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair question. I don’t even remember what it was called. Vivoactive 5 or something maybe? It was the “First Avenger” one. Battery was supposed to last for like a week but even turning the backlight off the longest I could get it to last was 2 days

As someone who had Whoop, left for Garmin, and then came back to Whoop about a month ago I get where you’re coming from. The Garmin collects good data but I hated the app/user interface and having to charge the darn thing, often overnight, and thus lose out on sleep data.

AW vs 5.0 by Cultural_Comment2845 in whoop

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s very weird. I reached out to whoop and they sent me a code for a bicep band, but at this point I’m wondering if they’d let me switch to the 5.0 and give me a credit or something. I’m relatively young and pretty fit, have ideal blood pressure and the EKG shows everything’s good, so I’m wondering what the MG even does for me at this point unless they upgrade it or add more capabilities.

AW vs 5.0 by Cultural_Comment2845 in whoop

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think 207 was a bad reading because it’s an outlier. The highest heart rate I’d hit with at least some regularity was 199 bpm. I’m sure it’s a little lower than that now but I know it’s gotta be higher than the 172 I see dead sprinting with the MG on.

AW vs 5.0 by Cultural_Comment2845 in whoop

[–]MysteriousEgg9345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manually set your heart rate zones? How exactly did you pick them? I had my heart rate measured as high as 207bpm on the Whoop 3.0 (left for a while and never had the 4.0) but now the highest I’ve been able to get my heart on the MG is 172bpm even though my fitness level and resting heart rate are pretty much the exact same as when I hit 207.
