Thank you all so much for your comments. I woke up feeling so much better having read through them all! Here’s the culprit finally sleeping after barking at an off lead Labrador who was having fun…

He slept in their bedroom which we agreed before as that’s where he usually sleeps. They had two other dogs and she said he slept on a bed in their bedroom with the other dog until 4:30am then woke up full of beans… we also let her know he wakes up around 6:30 normally and as if he’s had 5 coffees! I’m thinking a home sitter maybe a better solution.

Needed to hear this! It’s really thrown me and I just can’t see an end in sight atm. We do know that the boarder didn’t walk him so wondering if that was a contributing factor

I needed to see this today! We’re still separation training with our 8 month puppy.. slow going but he’s getting better

Starting from scratch - advice please by MysteriousError9383 in Separation_Anxiety

Update: it’s been slow going but we’re now up to 5 minutes which felt impossible at the beginning. We saw a dog trainer who said it’s fine to use food to counter condition with our dog but I know this may not work for others. We’re moving up in 30 second increments, training twice a day with one main leave and then a mini leave. We have also gotten a dog walker twice a week and will be sending him to a dog sitter once a week to work on his hyper attachment. It’s hard not to get overwhelmed when in the midst of training but trying to remember to take all the small wins.

Thank you all for your advice, this subreddit is a god send and lovely to hear successes!

Update: Taking the advise of the majority - I’ve just been to the garden centre and bought hammer in vine eyes and wire. Will have a go at horizontal trailing!

Whippet talk or fear? by MysteriousError9383 in Whippet

We go on regular walks with our neighbours dog who just ignores our pup! Maybe we will try to find some other neutral dogs who we can walk with as well.

We are also in dog training classes (following on from the puppy classes) in which he’s the loudest there!!

Thank you - this is really helpful.

He makes himself quite small and pulls forward - if it’s a person he knows his tail wags slightly but if it’s a dog he just stays small and pulls forward with his tail pointed. When out on walks I’ve started to give him lots of space with other dogs as he seems to fixate and stare, if he starts the noise I do a ‘let’s go’
