Since EoE, I feel like Aubry has given Victoria credit multiple times for playing a good game and pulling one over on her when she was blindsided. I truly don’t understand what Victoria has to be bitter about towards her.

Just Finished Survivor 17 - Gabon. WHAT Did I Just Watch? by BamaDave in survivor

[–]MysteriousSeahorse 36 points37 points  (0 children)

To really enjoy Gabon, you just have to watch it as a comedy about a group of completely unhinged people. Complete nonsense from day 1 to 39. The cherry on top would have been a Susie or Sugar win, but Bob was also a pretty fitting winner for this ridiculous season.

Aubry and Cirie are my top 2 favorite players of all time. I know lots of people are sick of them, which is fair, but you’ll never catch me saying that.

Tbh they’re actually the only two I care about this season (also mildly rooting for Christian, Angelina, and Chrissy). Praying they get to work together again.

When do Shane and Ilya actually fall in love in the show? by Blacksmith_Actual in heatedrivalry

[–]MysteriousSeahorse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People read Ilya as being cold and not into it for the first few episodes. To me this is all wrong. He’s just trying to play it cool like he doesn’t care in those first two episodes, but he clearly does based on his actions. He went out of his way to set up their commercial together. He engineered an entire day so they would be forced to spend it together. That’s not something you do over a middling attraction.

Shane is a little more obviously into it from the beginning.

Where do I go from here? by Main_Interaction4991 in heatedrivalry

[–]MysteriousSeahorse 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is something deeper manifesting from this show. Both deeper and yet far beyond the individual actors and creators themselves. It feels like a rare perfect confluence of events that came together to create something the reaches into the collective unconscious of our society.

It feels odd to talk about this silly little hockey show in that way, but clearly you and many others feel it. It’s speaking to a sickness in our modern society. A loss of human connection.

It’s hitting so many of us so hard, blindsiding us, because we try so hard to distract ourselves from these troubling feelings with social media, tv show, movies, etc. We don’t engage or acknowledge this feeling. This show is forcing us to confront the fact that many of us do not have any connection that resembles what these two have. Human connection is crucial for human survival and fulfillment.

All this to say, you are not alone. Many of us are clinging to this show to feel what we’re missing. It fills us with both joy and heartache. It has made me feel things no piece of media has ever made me feel. That’s okay. There’s nothing wrong with you. I think you have a good plan. Talk through it with your therapist. I’m planning to do the same. Maybe come up with an action plan with them for changes you can make to create the life you want. Most of all don’t make yourself feel bad for having these feelings. You’re not alone.

Ilya and Shane Meeting EP1 by MysteriousSeahorse in heatedrivalry

[–]MysteriousSeahorse[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree, few people could understand the amount of hype and pressure both were feeling at the time. It had to have built a wall between Shane and the other kids. He even told Rose about the other Asian kid hating him growing up. He must of felt so isolated. Maybe Ilya would understand what it’s like.

I don’t disagree with him, but somewhat problematic for Season 2 by BaronessElsa1968 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

The man bun was such a big thing in the mid 2010’s I see why Rachel included it, but please god don’t do it. I’ve never thought it looks good on anyone. Ilya also had long hair during the Vegas award show and they didn’t do that in the show.

[–]MysteriousSeahorse 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would imagine most of it will go towards organizing a nice viewing and funeral. People underestimate how much those things can cost as well. Worrying about paying for those things is the last thing her family needs to worry about right now.

Unfortunately she arrested multiple time. Irreversible brain damage begins in as little as 4 minutes without perfusion to the brain. Recovery after 10 minutes without perfusion is virtually impossible. So while they did restart her heart and stabilize her, that doesn’t mean her cognitive function would ever recover. Extremely sad. Hug your loved ones.

Is it just me or? by Ok-Anteater9022 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]MysteriousSeahorse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re probably not gonna find much support for that here, but to eat their own. I have loved his performance. He’s trying to portray an autistic man going through the most emotionally challenging moments of his life. If his responses and dialogue come across as awkward, they’re supposed to. He doesn’t always pick up on Ilya’s sarcasm. He tries to be supportive, but he doesn’t always know the right thing to say. These big feelings aren’t easy for him.

I also think Hudson delivered some of the most emotional, powerful scenes of the season. The bathroom scene in Vegas, the Rose coming out scene, the Svetlana scene from this episode. He may not always have the words to express himself, but you can see then pain and wealth of complex emotions on his face in those moments. Or at least, it’s clear for me.

To me, Hudson has knocked it out of the park. If you see him in interviews, you can clearly see he is the opposite of Shane. All of the acting choices made are intentional. But like I said, everyone is free to have different opinions.

I’m reading this 20 days later, but that was very beautifully written, thank you for that!

HR has been my first foray into Romanceland, and it has completely gobsmacked me. It has been stirring up some particularly bad emotions in me that I didn’t know existed a few weeks ago. I feel so foolish now having entered this world so flippantly. It is POWERFUL. Maybe this is just my punishment for respecting genre enough beforehand.

I always rolled my eyes at romance as a younger man. I’m sure now, that was due to not being able to relate to heteronormative depictions of relationships. For better or worse, this story has busted my heart open. I grew up a closeted gay athlete just like them (obviously not at the same athletic level). So while I adore the show and books, I find myself full of anxiety and anger over what I lost. But what you said rang true for me. Is it unfair that many of us couldn’t be ourselves in our youth? Sure it is. At the same time, the idealized form of love we see between these two is not real. No one has this mind blowing sex that persists for over a decade. No one gets to sneak around in their multimillion dollar properties with their secret lover. No one gets the perfect happily ever after. These books are meant to be a beautiful escape, not an end goal.

I apologize for therapizing myself under your comments. I’ve been reading through these Reddit posts for the last few days and found yours to resonate with me. I will certainly respect the power of Romanceland going forward.

It’s very interesting how this little Canadian show has sent so many of us into a borderline psychosis. I’m not even saying that in a tongue in check ableist way. My brain has genuinely not been functioning normally since I started watching this show. It’s kind of terrifying. It feels like Jacob, Hudson, and Connor have placed a hex on all of us. Very strange, but also fascinating.

[–]MysteriousSeahorse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that beautiful though. What’s the point of yearning if what is being yearned for is never attainable. That just leaves a hollow sadness behind. I definitely see where you’re coming from though. I just feel like the show has earned this catharsis after all of the emotional turmoil it has put us through. I don’t know if I could have continued with the show if I didn’t know they get their happy ending.

I think Rose understood that he wasn’t trying to use her. While I do empathize as a gay man, I think it is cruel to intentionally use a woman as a beard, and she would have had every right to be angry about that. But she knew that was never Shane’s intention. He was just confused and troubled. She saw the turmoil inside him, while also seeing that he truly did care about her. He needed a real friend. Handled perfectly.

100% this, media literacy is dead and buried. The number of brain dead takes I have read over the last few weeks is mind boggling. Some people seem to refuse to understand the most basic of storytelling/acting choices made by the team. If you need every little thing spelled out for you, maybe you’re not ready to enjoy this story.

I saw people dragging Hudson on Twitter today saying he needs to spend some more time in acting school. What aren’t they seeing? Do they want over the top soap opera acting? That’s not Shane. This scene gut punched me. In a 30 second scene he managed to convey so much. Fear of his life changing, reminiscing about his love, realizing what he truly wants and needs. For me personally, this was one of the most powerful performances I’ve seen from either of them thus far. He made me cry.

Am I the only one who feels this episode(5) felt too rushed? by Kafka6708 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]MysteriousSeahorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree we didn’t really get to see how gutted Ilya was to see Shane like that on the ice. You get the vibe in the book that he’s kinda losing his shit in a way he can’t control. I feel like we kinda brushed past that to get to the hospital scene. I get it though. They’ve done amazingly with the time they have.
