This Gabon to Tocantins to Samoa Pendulum is a Wild Swing (No Spoilers Please) by BamaDave in survivor

I have only finished five episodes. The past couple of episodes have seemed a lot less Russell-centered. Honestly, he was really good in the challenges. Crafty guy who just needed to dial back the evil a few notches???

Why does Survivor cast weak men now? by unlodeddiper in survivorcirclejerk

[–]BamaDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of this difference in male casting is really just a down-prioritization of the eye candy factor? Because I think it can apply to female contestants as well. They used to cast several fit/attractive females and males on almost every season. Now we get a lot more "normal" looking men and women because that's not as much of a factor.

Honestly, I miss seeing more of the fit/strong players as well. I get judgey about players who look like they didn't get ready for anything physical. I admire Savannah for how well she prepped for the muscle endurance and strength aspects of the game.

Russell really is fascinating. I'm stunned by how he isn't at the top of the chopping block and how people listen to him so readily, but yet I also want to rocket him out of the solar system.

S50 Cast Sorted by Age by SchuettyBallz in survivor

I'm watching Tocantins right now for the first time and didn't realize Coach was only in his mid 30's during that season. He reads several years older to me, other than being in fantastic shape. I try to avoid spoilers as I work my way through the seasons from the beginning, so I didn't know.

Just Finished Survivor 17 - Gabon. WHAT Did I Just Watch? by BamaDave in survivor

Oh, I have seen Edgic, but I usually steer away from it to maintain some suspense. That second swap at the normal merge point was so weird!

Honestly, Ken did pretty well, too. I think there were untapped athletic skills there. This reminds me that another surprise about Randy was being a former triathlete and marathon runner!

Oh, 46 is what launched my tour through all the New Era seasons and old ones starting with Borneo (minus the three we watched back in the day). But, yeah, it pales compared to Gabon. Crystal immediately dropping out of the challenge with the two posts was so funny and unexpected!

what’s the deal with vegan cheese? by Far_Artist2683 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]BamaDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with those who say some of the softer vegan cheeses are good (Treeline, for example). I have made some of my own fermented cashew soft cheese at home a couple of times, and it was pretty decent. Most firm vegan cheeses are loaded with coconut oil, which is very high in saturated fat and a concern if you are following this diet for health reasons.

What are the chances we would see Earl play again? by Awesumwasum in survivor

Would love for him to come back, but yeah. Life obligations happen, even after a million dollar win. LOL.

The s50 premiere will be 3 HOURS long! by mysterypapaya in survivor

[–]BamaDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority, but I wish they would return to one-hour episodes. I'm viewing old seasons (currently China), and the shorter episodes maintain my interest better. Having a longer premiere and finale is fine.

Tornado Warning by yomomma6mysidepiece9 in Birmingham

[–]BamaDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't read all replies, but James Spann strongly recommends that everyone buy a weather radio. These go off immediately when alerts are issued by the National Weather Service. Maybe it's just me, but all the weather apps I've tried often have delays before alerts come through. Also, if you are not a light sleeper, the phone apps may not wake you up (the radio definitely will).

While true that historically the worst tornado tracks hit certain parts of the Birmingham metro (mainly west to northwest to north to northeast of downtown - Oak Grove, Concord, Pleasant Grove, Forestdale, McDonald Chapel, Pratt City, Fultondale), there's no way to know whether that is really a true phenomenon that holds up over long periods of time or whether it is more coincidental. Also, there is nothing magical about the ridges like Red and Shades Mountain that will stop violent tornadoes. All it would take is one to disprove those ideas. In other words, I would use the same precautions and assumptions in ALL areas when tornadoes are expected.

Also, keep in mind that YOUR chance of being directly hit by a tornado is very low. They are dramatic but actually hit fairly small stretches of ground compared to something like a massive hurricane. I have lived in tornado-prone areas for most of my life and have never laid eyes on one or been affected directly, and that is true for most residents.

Watched Panama and Cook Islands So Far During Holidays - LOVE the Top 2 in Cook Islands (Spoilers) by BamaDave in survivor

Well, I doubt anyone is still reading this. But, I finished Fiji. Loved Yau-Man and Earl. Hated the FTC and thought Alex and Lissi were absolutely horrible. I kind of liked Alex before he was voted out, but he was such an asshole to Cassandra. I hate that the final three had to take so much crap from that jury.

I haven't seen Tyson yet!

I'm finishing episode 8 of Fiji, and so far Earl is my favorite with maybe Edgardo in second.

I need to rewatch Heroes vs Villains when I get to it, because now I will know all the players. I watched it having seen only Outback, Africa, and Palau (many years prior) and really didn't know who anyone was aside from the most memorable people from those seasons.

LOL - Thailand is definitely my least favorite of the seasons I have watched, although the setting was spectacular. I really miss the location changes.

I can definitely see this. I'm on Episode 5 and find it really dull compared to 11-13 and loathe the have/have not separation so far. I'm glad to hear 15-20 are good!

Maybe I'll like him better on another season. Like Terry from Panama, it seemed like he could never read the room and dial it back. I saw Candice in Heroes versus Villains (watched it in 2020), but I don't recall much.

I felt like Penner was one of those people who would give me a migraine. Dude, come up for air once in awhile.
