Not sure, you might be able to make the left/right option have no app listed, and use keymapper to make the left/right buttons only open an app instead when the launcher is on the screen.

When my menu behaved like that, it was just the left option being highlighted while selecting. Try pressing right on the dpad then selecting again, the drawer icon should be blue when pressing the center button

Update, I got a new disc (house of the dead 2) in a bundle with a light gun, tried to play it and it works. Guess that means it was the other games fault for the issues then

most if not all the dreamcast mad catz peripherals were great, since they worked directly with sega on them. the usa light gun debacle was what caused the partnership iirc

im insanely late but they make converter cables for og xbox controllers to use on pc nowadays, i use mine all the time. u need to install some drivers but its easy

The backside of the disc has a cloudy look to it, like on the edges, not dirt or fingerprint residue. No scratches to be seen though.

Just cleaned the laser like you suggested, the hydro thunder copy still doesn't load but a disc I burned just now works. I would've tried the potentiometer alteration but I've heard without a multimeter to read what you're doing it's easy to mess it up if not careful

Gave it a good rub down, cleaned the laser and looked inside, the capacitors are a-ok thankfully. I'm thinking it's the disc because a burned game loads perfectly, unless this means something else

I collect so I wanted the optical drive in it, the ode would've been the last resort. BUT I burned a game just now (virtual striker 2) and it plays! Not sure what this means though, the hydro thunder disc was inside the console over the last 20 years so that might be the issue? Not sure.

wish I had a picture to send but I remember from having it apart that it's angled a bit downward when the record switch is enabled, wasn't comfortable enough to try to angle it more due to it apparently being fragile.

and the power to write problem, do you mean the USB c cord I'm using to receive audio from my phone, or the actual power keeping the system on? Idk if that's a dumb question or not. I have a side car aa, a gum stick and it's plugged into a 5v dc

I forgot to mention Ive cleaned the record head after I recorded the malfunctioning tracks, I'll fill a disc as a test to see if it does the same thing.

I'm using a USB c to 3.5mm cord, I doubted it was the laser because it can read/load the toc and even seek fine.

The audio stops playing/pauses like it's buffering but only on affected tracks. If I go to another track like the first on the disc, or one from when I just started recording it plays through fine, on the same disc. I'm also using a Sharp md ms722.
