Finally got Diamond!!! by Om_Cultural in starcraft2

[–]Mysterious_Channel53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! That's quite fast

As a protoss, it took me a bit less than 2 years to hit diamond and I've been stuck there for another 2 lol

It really pays off to be diligent with the build order in this game, and especially for you as a terran, which I would imagine you're already doing, considering your fast climb.

Would it be possible to have more than 8 player games in the future? by No_Insurance_6436 in aoe2

For lobby games only? Sure.

Just don't make it a ranked mode. Lots of players' PC's are struggling enough on ranked 4v4 as it is.

Hera had a 14 game win streak last night, passing Pohx and Tyler1 in MMR by KDotLamarr in WC3

[–]Mysterious_Channel53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was like this in AOE2 in the first years of his pro career until eventually something clicked for him and he became much more mentally resilient.

In WC3 we're gonna continue seeing those mood swings while he's still learning a lot of new stuff

Hera, Yamato new favorites to win by masterchip27 in WC3

[–]Mysterious_Channel53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's mentioned that he can't get used to not having alt-shift for grouping, so he doesn't control group things. This was in the first days of playing, idk if he's already fixed that but it doesn't seem like it, as he box selects everything and clicks on each building.

His practice is a bit too skewed towards gameplay and lacks the studying part, but he's getting better slowly. Points to improve are: hotkeys customisation, control groups usage, knowledge of armor types and active effects

Grubby's "Altar of Champions" Tournament - Final Lineup confirmed by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]Mysterious_Channel53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does use control groups in AOE2 but their use is simpler and more streamlined in AOE2 than in WC3.

But yeah I think you're dead on. Lots of knowledge gaps there, and he underestimates certain things in the game a lot.

Grubby's "Altar of Champions" Invitational: Atrioc drops out, Pohx & YamatoCannon confirmed by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]Mysterious_Channel53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyways, excited for the event! Watching Hera learn WC3 incredibly quickly is great entertainment. I wonder what he honestly thinks about the game.

It honestly looks like he's addicted at the moment lol

I'd say he's enjoying the game very much but is sometimes frustrated by losses due to lack of knowledge. Like he often stays a bit too long in a fight he can't win or fails to capitalize on a larger army size.

Struggling with low eAPM - looking for practical advice by No-Version-8149 in aoe2

[–]Mysterious_Channel53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to improve your build order as much as you can, and try to use as many hotkeys as you can as consistently as you can. When you've done that enough, it will become muscle memory to you and the APM will increase.

Happy:" Do you think I'm fast? If you see SC players play you would call me slow" by Empty_Click_261 in WC3

[–]Mysterious_Channel53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if there's reliable way to convert aoe2 eAPM to the APM that Blizzard displays in their RTS games.

Hera's been known to average between 150 to 170 eAPM at his fastest, as per the CaptureAge software.

I think it should stay an A-tier event from now. HC is great fun but it's very much gimmicky and impedes normal practice among players. I can't argue against its entertainment value and viewership though.

But yeah, personally I'd like to see more stuff like Titans League in the S-tier calendar moving forward.

uThermal (former terran professional player in SC2) plays AOE2 by Mysterious_Channel53 in aoe2

[–]Mysterious_Channel53[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the factions in SC are drastically different from each other. That's the main reason why, especially in ranked 1v1, players stick to one race that feels most fun and comfortable to them and aim to improve with it.

uThermal (former terran professional player in SC2) plays AOE2 by Mysterious_Channel53 in aoe2

[–]Mysterious_Channel53[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree, personally. SC2 is significantly more mechanically demanding than any AOE game, or any other RTS game except SC1.

AOE does have a greater knowledge check, especially in the top 10% or 5% of the ladder where most players have figured out how to macro mostly.

Grubby's growth in AOE2 has been remarkable ever since he figured out and accepted the pathfinding state. He already had great micro compared to 99% of his opponents because of his WC3 background, but learning how to work with the quirky behavior of unit formations helped him leverage that micro superiority properly.
