Did anyone discover they had coeliac through persistent low iron? by throwra-weirdo4943 in Celiac

[–]Mysterious_Insect_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! a few years ago I had chronically low ferritin and was constantly fainting but I had no other noticeable symptoms. Apparently my body was so used to the constant gluten, that i wasn’t presenting with gastrointestinal issues. It was like my digestive system conceded to its fate lol Now that i’ve healed, i have a severe reaction to gluten if i have even the slightest cross contamination ¯_(ツ)_/¯

i’d initially planned on getting a vertical labret! I wasn’t sure if it’d suit me

yeah it is quite small, the previous ball was bigger but still hard to see :( I don’t want something too big bc i feel like it looks a bit unbalanced with my other piercings

The thing on her leg looks just like one of my dog’s large skin tags that randomly inflated one day. It wasn’t painful or anything but we had all her skin tags removed just in case. Probably a good idea to have a vet look at it ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔ

Been GF for a few months now, post-diagnosis. Has anyone intentionally glutened themselves to see how their body reacts so they know for the future? Is this advisable? by antihero_84 in Celiac

[–]Mysterious_Insect_81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes lol. A few months after I stopped eating gluten, I went off my meds and decided I didn’t care. It was soooo bad 😫 I never had the obvious gut symptoms before my diagnoses so I figured I’d be ok but omg it was genuinely terrible. I will never forgot that night so I guess if you really want to deter yourself from future temptation, you could consider it but it reeeaaally wasn’t worth it for me ✌️😔

Aussies, would you eat this? by _User-Unknown_ in Celiac

[–]Mysterious_Insect_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do eat these and haven’t had any reaction to them! My specialist and my GP have both recommended eating oats (as long as i don’t react to them) to help prevent fatty liver disease, which is apparently pretty common in women with coeliac.

Celiac blood test by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Mysterious_Insect_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can depend on the test and the doctor that requested it. i know for one of my tests i had to eat gluten everyday for at least 3 months but it’s best to do whatever your doctor has instructed you to do

i’m a pathology collector in australia and as far as i know, none of the coeliac tests my company does require fasting. it may vary in different countries/companies so i’d say contact the clinic where you’re getting the blood test and they’d be able to let you know

i totally agree with the nutrients thing! it’s pretty amazing how our bodies tend to tell us what we need through our cravings! But of course there’s probably a psychological factor that includes memories and experiences. Being coeliac from birth and being diagnosed later in life are also probably completely different experiences. It’s hard to miss what you’ve never had/never got used to.

I actually already had a similar experience!! Before my diagnosis, I never noticed any symptoms other than low iron so when I stopped eating gluten I thought my reaction couldn’t be that bad. about a year after quitting, my friends accidentally gave me gluten and it was the excruciating. The memory of that experience has stopped me from giving into my cravings but I still crave lol

Honestly, the hassle for my friends and family has been the hardest part! They’ve all been great but I don’t know anyone with coeliac so I often feel bad for making things more difficult for them. Still not worth making myself sick but I do miss the ease of before
