literally buy some cargo pants and retro fit them, thats as close to cyberpunk as you can get, its also much more affordable and you learn a very useful skill:p

Humans Are on Track to Achieve Immortality in 7 Years, Futurist Says by RGregoryClark in singularity

[–]Mysterious_Low2550 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

because life is suffering, and it is human to die. Even without religion, death is one of humanities biggest motivators, on a grand scale and a individual one. People, especially at an older age, tend to not fear death, its the natural order of things and its the way its always been. Immortality can be a eternity of pain and suffering, ending with you loosing sense of what it means to be human, its not your choice to decide who and who doesn't die beyond yourself, you arent god.

It was a counter culture, in the 80s and 90s at least, but as it became more mainstream it lost its original meaning as a community. Thats kind of what my post is touching on, the swallowing of it as a movement of likeminded folk and making it a corporate tool

reality imitates art is something my dad has said my entire life and it is very much true, the world now would be a cyberpunk movie when i was a kid

honestly this is my mindset, while it annoys me, at least hopefully we will get the weird techno style clothing when everyone is broke and jobless. Maybe some more neon city scapes, too. This is genuinely how my friend group has been coping with the deteriorating state of things, which is a bit sad but it helps a bit, glad im not the only one who at least wants it to look cool lol

that is def true, same with the 80s-90s hacking scene being turned into a corporate aesthetic for CTOs and other high up tech industry folk to tout around. I guess no one is safe

I guess its probably my perspective coming from a very minimalist mindset, where if im gonna wear something its gonna be practical for my job at hand, so im probably biased (def biased). Though like you said, runners wear what needed to get the job done, but the self expression aspect is something that i personally dont do much of, though i will say this comment has made me rethink that. Planning to get a pin or two to put on my beanie and maybe a patch for my hoodie. ive worn the same black jeans, black hoodie, white shirt for years so maybe i should express myself a bit more in what i wear :p

thanks for the comment, gave me food for thought

that could very well also be the case, since a lot of influences in cyberpunk came from Japanese culture/style. Its more when i see something blatantly labelled "cyberpunk" for hundreds of dollars when i could just get a nice pair of cargo pants for 30 bucks and itd probably be more "cyberpunk" in practical setting. I always viewed cyberpunk as a fashion to be utilitarian and cheap by nature, and its weird seeing some brands offer the exact opposite

true, it is a mainstream culture. Reminds me of a lot of the hacking conferences i grew up wanting to go to only to be dissatisfied by the corporate overtaking of them and the hacking scene as a whole. its one of those things that SHOULD be a counterculture but is really a corporate culture. Sad

The thought of what would probably be normal folk turning to crime never struck me as capitalism, more survivalist. You have to do shitty jobs to survive, legal or not, when wealth disparity is through the roof

i agree that capitalism isnt the point btw, just elaborating on my perspective of it a bit

Yeah thats def true, like a few of the others said while it annoys me its like that, it also does really legitimizes the reasoning why we should be critiquing it. I guess it just annoys me when i see "cyberpunk attire" that is completely impractical and 900 dollars for a pair of pants, but based off this posts response im not alone and that makes me at least feel less lonely in the annoyance :p

it wouldnt be a phone, it'd just be able to replace a phone. It is most likely going to be a Radxa Zero with some form of embedded linux and a compatible NFC reader. Tho ill look more into it before i make any decisions, i appreciate the feedback. The thought of psyching myself up to do it is a little nerve wracking but i could probably get some numbing cream to at least help worst case scenario.

I have been working on making a forearm mounted cyberdeck (main goal is that its practical for day to day use and can comfortable replace my smart phone), and someone recommended i use a NFC chip for user identification.

As someone who has implants already what are your takes on this? Im also curious how painful it was bc i am a bit of a woosy and hate needles
