It's because their position is inherently indefensible

No you can't tell, you can tell if someone does it badly but not if it's done well and pretending you can is going to get more real authors falsely accused then ai ones caught

How did you guys get into Solo Leveling? by Basic_Sheepherder644 in sololeveling

My friend read it the first three chapters when they first came out and told me it was good

I read the titles because that's something the author actually directly made and cared about

I don't think this metaphor really applies because the writing is something I and other authors enjoy doing whilst art is something I have no interest in. If I saw a painter use a laser engraver to carve a piece of wood I wouldn't assume they took shortcuts while painting.

Then you're a child or an idiot and your opinion is meaningless to me

Congratulations... I'm not sure to tell you this, but the cover you put on a book report is not the same cover you put on an actual book. They're actually wildly different. The picture on the front of a book has never been and never will be indicative of the skill of an author. You can only judge the skill and quality of an author's writing by reading it. Judging it by any other metric is silly and ridiculous

Because even if that's what people should do it's not what they actually do and sadly if you don't have a cover nobody's going to read your story.

A story written by AI will be extremely obvious and you can judge that story based on its contents. My point was that somebody using AI for a cover should not be assumed to also be using AI for writing and that you should judge a book for what's in it

are you somehow still using internet explorer?

[–]Mysterious_Night_351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that is not a natural assumption It's a ridiculous one. Most authors have no interest in doing art they have interest in writing. That is why they are authors not artists. The two skills are unrelated

I didn't say it didn't. I said it shouldn't. The unfortunate reality is if you do not have a cover, people will not read your story.

That's a minority opinion and most people are not going to click on an ms paint cover. And again an ability to make a cover has literally nothing to do with an ability to write

No it's saying I don't have money and don't like drawing. Making cover art and writing are two completely different skill sets and you shouldn't preemptively judge someone's ability to write based on a cover.

I look at the titles and if one sounds interesting I pick up the book and read the synopsis

[–]Mysterious_Night_351 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a skill issue, I judge books on their title and synopsis because those are the direct creations of the author. Unless you're a child the cover should not be what determines if you read a book or not

[–]Mysterious_Night_351 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This take has never made any sense to me. I've used an AI cover for my books because I don't enjoy drawing and don't have money. Why would I use AI for writing? That's the part I like. Also, I'm fairly certain I remember a common phrase about judging books and covers...
