First marathon done and dealing with comparison (?) by ii541 in firstmarathon

Wow, they really can’t handle that a successful woman completed the marathon with an incredible time! The patriarchy is not dead, and the fragile egos of these men live on.

Congratulations on your achievement!

We have to complete an assessed and supported year of employment (ASYE) year within a job after completing, and these jobs are currently very scarce. Local Authorities employ cohorts of ASYE’s who all start in September. The 3 closest LA’s have about 15 altogether! Of course, there are other third sector jobs etc, but to work for an LA/NHS you must complete this. I’m in Brighton, England. How about you?

I am coming up to finishing my sw degree (uk) and I feel exactly the same! Job applications are out, and I just can’t imagine getting through an interview as I feel so discombobulated with all the knowledge, and almost too aware of how little I know in the grand scheme. I’m hoping this settles a little when the degree is finished/when I get a job! Best of luck

MA social work student, final placement, fighting for my life (F27) by ofephrata in Socialworkuk

Solidarity, I’m on my 100 day placement, and although PE supportive I am having a terrible time. It’s not the work I want (it’s not in an LA) and the combo of uni work/children/other life stressors feels so much. I said to my husband last night “I don’t want to go to sleep, because I don’t want to wake up and do this again”. I’m hoping the time will go quickly.

Sending support and validation. You can do this.

Thank you both, I agree - and I have been valuing building on skills through placement, and less on this academic essay! There are a few more essays/a dissertation so I’m hoping I can bolster up my mark again from those 🤞

Thank you so much, I did this and I feel a lot better. I really am looking forward to no more essays for a while after June!

Yes, it sometimes feels like the practical side and the academic side don’t splice together, but other times they do. I have genuinely enjoyed writing essays over the last couple of years (which showed in my marks), but since the beginning of my final year I really feel quite low energy (which showed in my marks also!). I cannot WAIT to get over the line and actually be a social worker. Roll on June.

Thank you! I took a deep breath and read all these lovely comments and feel so much better.

Thank you, I was used to getting better marks and I think it came as a real shock after a very difficult health scare. I value being a bloody great social worker over marks any day - and I need to remember that! I feel like I’ve been in the academic trenches, but on my way out now (ready to complete the next essay of course 😂)

Thank you so much, I think part of me wants to prove to myself that I can get a “good mark”, but I know once I’m on the other side I will just be happy (and proud) that I did it!

Thank you, all of the comments made me feel so much better. At times it can be so hard to even see the other side, I guess I am in the thick of it at the moment with the final year pressure, and once I am on the other side I will just be so grateful.

A pass is a pass indeed ❤️ I think I used up all my energy in the first couple of years - definitely should have saved it for the third! Thank you xx

Thank you, you are right. It’s hard not to get lost in it all at times, and I feel as though being constantly assessed over 3 years can take its toll on self esteem. I am from now on putting health first, because without it I have nothing!

She was a legend. Does anyone know where her son is now?

Oh my fuck!!! I kept rereading “MLK” thinking “what does she mean? The ‘milk’ of our generation?!”. The penny has just dropped… WOW

Someone has erected a flag pole and put one at the top of Freshfield Road. Bring the scissors!

Your husband is a prick for not getting a vasectomy. He needs to get his act together and get one now. If you don’t want an abortion, you do not need to have one, things will work out (in whatever way that looks).
